Description

BOTTLE OF PLASTTCO FOR WATER, MOLDED BY BLOWING FIELD OF THE TECHNIQUE This invention relates to a blow molded plastic bottle for carrying water having an improved construction to withstand internal pressure.
ANTECEDENTS OF ART The blow molded bottles for transporting water exposed in Young Patent No. 5,732,838 to Young should be designed to withstand internal pressure which is used to provide full bottle stiffness. This internal pressure is usually only about half the gauge atmospheric pressure and is substantially less than the pressure in bottles containing carbonated beverages. However, the lower base where the water-containing bottle sits must be constructed so that REF .: 31310 its central portion extending upwardly in a conventional manner does not reverse down due to internal pressure.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a blow molded plastic bottle for carrying water having an improved construction to withstand internal pressure.
By carrying out the above objective, the blow molded plastic bottle for water has a round shape with a central axis and includes a portion of the generally cylindrical body having upper and lower ends. An upper end for delivery has a rounded portion extending upwardly and internally from the upper end of the body portion and has a nozzle for delivery extending upwardly from the rounded portion. A bottom base of the bottle that contains the water it has a side wall that extends downwardly and internally from the body portion and also has a lower annular support that extends internally from the side wall to support the bottle in a straight manner on a horizontal support surface. A dome of the lower base extends upwardly and internally from the lower annular support. The dome includes an outer annular wall that extends generally vertically, a portion of the dome extends upwardly and internally from the annular wall with a descending concave curve shape, the reinforcing rods extending externally with a radial direction from the axis central in the portion of the dome and has cross sections projecting downwardly with an upwardly open shape and, connections between the reinforcing rods and the outer annular wall.
In the preferred construction of the base of the water bottle, the reinforcing rods have radial inner ends which converge externally with dotted shapes and radial outer ends of a uniform cross section. The maximum diameter of the lower base is approximately eight times the height of the dome approximately from the supporting surface.
The body portion of the water bottle has a top panel for the label and a plurality of annular bottom reinforcing rings below the panel for the label.
The rounded portion of the nozzle for supplying the water bottle has a curvature in an upward direction with a maximum radius that is less than half the maximum diameter of the bottle. The bottle has a total height that is approximately 2.68 times its maximum diameter and has a volume of fill in ounces of liquid smaller than its supply nozzle which is approximately 2.62 times its total height in inches.
The objects, features, and advantages of the present invention are readily apparent from the following detailed description of the best way to carry out the invention when accompanied in connection with the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIGURE 1 is a perspective view taken from above and from the side of the blow molded plastic bottle for water, constructed in accordance with the present invention.
FIGURE 2 is a view of the upper plane of the water bottle.
FIGURE 3 is an elevated view of the water bottle.
FIGURE 4 is a view of the lower plane of the water bottle.
FIGURE 5 is a sectional view of a lower base of the bottle for water taken together with the direction of line 5-5 in FIG. 4 between the radial reinforcing rods.
FIGURE 7 was taken along the direction of line 7-7 in FIG. 4 to illustrate the cross section of the reinforcing rods.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION With reference to FIGS. 1 to 4, a blow molded plastic bottle for water 10 is constructed in a rounded shape according to the present invention and has a central axis A. the water bottle 10 has a generally cylindrical body portion 12 having ends upper and lower 14 and 16 as best identified in FIG. 3. An upper end for the supply 18 of the water bottle has a rounded shape 20 that extends ascendingly and internally with a curved shape from the upper end 14 of the body portion 12. At the upper end of the rounded shape 20 , the upper end of supply 18 includes a nozzle of supply 22 having a positioning ring 24, the thread 26 for securing a closure not shown and with threaded vertical grooves 28 for releasing the internal pressure on the closing opening, and an opening 30 shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 for the supply of the content of the bottle for water The water bottle 10 also includes a lower base 32 having a side wall 34 that extends downwardly and internally from the lower end 14 of the body portion 12. The lower base 32 as shown better in FIGS. 5 and 6 also have a lower annular support 36 which extends internally from the side wall 34 to support the bottle in a vertical manner on a horizontal support surface 38. A dome of the lower base extends upwardly and internally from the lower annular support 36. This dome 40 includes an outer annular wall 42 which extends generally vertically in one direction rising from the lower annular support 36.
A portion of the dome 44 of the dome 40 extends upwardly and internally from the outer annular wall 42 with a descending concave curve shape. The reinforcing rods 46 best illustrated in FIGS. 4, 6 and 7 extend externally in a radial direction from the central axis A in the portion of the dome 40 and have cross sections projecting downwardly as shown in FIG. 7 with an opening shape ascending.
The water bottle 10 as described above is more preferably made by stretch blow molding where a preformed hot plastic with a height shorter than the height of the bottle is axially stretched and then blown downward so that have biaxial orientation. This water bottle is also more preferably made with polyethylene terephthalate with a biaxial orientation provided by blow molding and injection and stretching.
As illustrated in FIG. 4, the reinforcing rods have radial inner ends 48 with dotted shapes and have radial outer ends 50 of a uniform cross section. The radial outer end of the outer end 50 of each reinforcing rod as shown in FIG. 6 has a connection 52 with the outer annular wall 42.
As best illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 6, the maximum diameter of the lower base 32 as shown in FIG. 3 where it is connected to the lower end 14 of the body portion 12 is about 8 times the height of the central axis A of the dome 40 above the support surface 38.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 3, the body portion 12 of the bottle 10 has an upper panel for label 54 that extends internally from the rounded portion 20 of the upper supply end 18 such that the applied label is protected. The body portion 12 also has a plurality of lower reinforcing rods 56 of shapes annular below the label panel 54 this lower end also extends internally from the uppermost ring to provide label protection as previously mentioned. As illustrated, there are four of the reinforcing rings 56 which have an outer diameter which is the same as the diameter of the lower end of the rounded part 20 and the upper part of the side wall 34 of the lower base 32.
As illustrated in FIG. 3, the rounded part 20 has a curvature with a high direction with a maximum radius that is less than half the maximum diameter of the bottle for water and more preferably about one third of the maximum diameter of the bottle.
The water bottle 10 as shown in FIG. 3 has a relatively firm construction and has a total height that is approximately 2.68 times its maximum diameter. In addition, the bottle 10 has a smaller filling volume in ounces than its mouthpiece. supply that is approximately 2.62 times its total height in inches.
Since the best mode for carrying out the invention has been described in detail, those familiar with the art to which this invention relates will recognize various alternative designs and embodiments for practicing the invention as defined by the following claims.
It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known by the applicant to carry out the aforementioned invention, is the conventional one for the manufacture of the objects to which it relates.
Having described the invention as above, the content of the following is claimed as property.
