The aforementioned assembly is similar to that described in the North American patent No. 4,586,255, issued to Chester F. Jacobson and assigned to the assignee of the present invention, also as those referred to above, with the exception of the new fasteners. , 51 and its attachment to the body element 2, which will be described in detail below.
With reference to Figures 4 and 5 it will be noted that the end portion 6 of the body member 2 has a plurality of contoured protrusions 52. 54. 56 and 58 which extend outwardly from the lower surface of the body member. and have a radial surface 60. 62. 64 and 66, each radial surface facing an opposite radial surface. The fastener 50 has a pair of radial cuts 70, 72. 74 and 76 which receive the protrusions 52, 54, 56 and 58 when the fastener is received in adjustment engagement within the slit 42. It should be noted that the fastener 51 also provided with radial cuts 71 73, 75 and 77 the construction of the fastener 51 is identical to that of the construction of the fastener 50 and the construction of the body element 2 which is formed in the end portion 4 in a manner identical to that as it is shown at the end portion 6 to receive the fastener 51, as it is previously deciphered. With the fastener 50 formed in the manner described, the fastener ends are attached to the contoured protrusions 52, 54, 56 and 58. The movement of the ends of the fastener along the direction of the lower surface of the body member is inhibited if the body member 2 is subjected to a sudden blow due to being dropped or hit against a surface inadvertently during the shaving process. Referring now to Figures 6 and 7 there is shown an alternative embodiment of the structure, wherein a pair of fasteners 50a and 51a are provided on the body member 2a, which is constructed in order to receive the fasteners 50a and 51 a (51a not shown), it is understood that all other elements of the razor assembly are taenic to those shown in Figure I. The lower surface of the body member 2a in the slots 42 is drowned with a pair of protrusions. and 81 which extend outward from the lower surface of the body member 2a and are cylindrical in configuration. Either at one end or the other of the fastener 50a a circular opening 82 and 83 is formed which receives the protrusions 80 and 81 in press fit engagement in a manner similar to the prominences 52. 54. 56 and 58 of the embodiment previous. It should be understood again that in the opposite extreme portion 4 of the body element 2a, a structure identical to that shown in Figures 6 and 7 is provided to secure that end of the body member in the manner described with reference to the fastener 50a and the protrusions 80 and 81. With reference to Figures 8 and 9, it is described Another alternative embodiment of the invention, wherein a stepper 50b is employed in either an end portion 4 or end portion 6 of a body member 2b. which is constructed to receive the fastener 50b. all the other elements of the razor assembly are identical to those with reference to the body elements 2 and 2a. As shown in Figs. 8 and 9, the fastener 50b has end portions formed in ridges 90 and 91 and slotted openings 92 and 93 are formed in the lower surface of the body member 2b in the slot 42, for an adjusting engagement to pressure with flanges 90 and 91.
In Fig. 10, the details of a further alternative embodiment are shown, wherein a fastener 50c is mounted on the end portions 4 and 6 of a body member 2c. The fastener 50c is provided with a plurality of prongs 90 which are urged to the lower surface of the body member during assembly of the structure. The tines 90 may be of any required number and are formed generally at the edge of the fastener 50c near the end of the fastener or may be formed on the surface of the fastener ds in front of the lower surface of the body member. In each of the embodiments shown, the assembly of the end of the fasteners 50. 50a. 50b or 50c with the lower surface of the body element 2. 2a, 2b or 2c is one which inhibits the movement of the end of the fastener along the direction of the lower surface of the body member and thereby retains the integrity of the body. the elements that are fastened by the respective fastener, to ensure the integrity of the structure if the structure is left to fall carelessly or is guided on an object during use or storage. In the tests carried out with the use of the embodiment of Figures 1 to 5, a measured load was deliberately applied to the underside of the structure in the protection element and the leaf spring handles. Of the five samples tested, the load required to pop a fastener, of a set in each instance, was greater than that measured in a test of five samples, which have simple ends, as in the prior art. In a further test, in which five assemblies or assemblies constructed in accordance with the embodiment of Figures 1 to 5 were isolated on a razor handle and shaved and dropped downwardly over a mosaic surface of a height of 1 Yz. (sixty inches) with the razor blade assembly that hits the surface, all the specimens were unscathed, while only two of the five assemblies constructed with prior art fasteners remained intact. It is therefore considered that the construction that inhibits the movement of the end of the fastener in relation to the lower surface of the body element provides a marked improvement over the structures of the prior art, which is obtained simply and inexpensively. While it is evident that changes and modifications can be made in the spirit and scope of the invention, it is intended, however, to be limited only by the appended claims.
It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known by the applicant to carry out the aforementioned invention, is the copvencioral for the manufacture of the objects to which it relates.
Having described the invention as above, property is claimed as contained in the following
