Description
DEVICE FOR CONDITIONING AND APPLYING A COSMETIC PRODUCT < X PERSONAL CARE
Description of the invention
The present invention relates to the domain of the conditioning and application devices of a cosmetic or personal care product. The invention relates more particularly, but not exclusively, to a device for conditioning and applying lipstick. A large number of lipstick conditioning and application devices have been proposed. Reference may be made, for example, to French patent applications FR-A-2, 548, 880 and FR-A-2,762,763, as well as to European patent application EP-A-0,815,766 of the applicant company. In a general way, it is sought to obtain a hermetic or sealed closure of the case in the absence of use, in order to obtain a good conservation of the product and mainly to avoid the evaporation of the volatile hydrocarbon solvents contained in the product. Tests carried out internally have shown that the cases currently on the market offer a satisfactory seal, that is to say that I do not know Ref: 127946 observes variation of weight of the case closed after a period of prolonged storage at a temperature higher than the ambient temperature . Despite this tightness, it has been found that for certain compositions, the preservation of the product is not optimal and that the quality of the makeup suffers. The present invention mainly considers improving the preservation of the product. More in general. The invention contemplates improving the preservation of a cosmetic or personal care product containing at least one volatile hydrocarbon solvent contained in a closure and conditioning application device e_stancc comprising at least two elements where one is made of plastic material, these being adapted elements to be displaced one in relation to the other, to allow the application of the product. The invention achieves its objective thanks to the fact that the plastic material is chosen in such a way that the element or elements do not suffer a change in sensitive mass when this or these are put in prolonged contact with the vapors of said solvent. The applicant company has found that in an unexpected way, the fact of elaborating in one or more of such plastic materials the elements of the device exposed to the vapors of the volatile hydrocarbon solvents contained in the product, allow it to improve the conservation of the latter. . After carrying out the invention and carrying out comparative tests internally, the applicant company has confirmed that the preservation of the product could be improved by preventing absorption of solvent vapors, even minimal, by the plastic material components of the device. The applicant company has also found that the present invention allows, when the device includes a mechanism for driving the product as is the case for example for a lipstick case, to avoid any risk of dimensional variation of the components of plastic material and of bad operation of the mechanism after the absorption of the volatile hydrocarbon solvents contained in the product, in case of preservation of the product at a relatively high temperature and / or prolonged storage (several years). The drive mechanisms of the lipstick case include parts that are to be precisely displaced relative to each other and are particularly sensitive to dimensional variations. The invention is more particularly advantageous when the solvent is chosen from hydrocarbon oils of from 8 to L6 atoms. of carbon or its mixtures, the solvent being able to be chosen among the branched alkanes of 8 to 16 carbon atoms and their mixtures, and to be constituted by isododecane. Preferably * non-polyolefin plastic materials are used to make the plastic material components of the device. Materials chosen from the following list can be used: styrenics, mainly polystyrenes and their copolymers (SB, SAN, ABS), polyvinyl chloride and their derivatives, polyacrylates
(PMMA), polyoxymethylenes (POM), polyamides (PA) and saturated thermoplastic polyesters, mainly polyethylene terephthalate (PET). In an exemplary embodiment, all the plastic material components of the device are acrylobutadiene-styrene (ABS). When the device includes an outfit or outer covering, it is advantageously used to make this cover, the ABS or an ABS / SAN copolymer. When the device includes a drive mechanism comprising at least two mobile components relative to each other, different materials are advantageously used to make these components, one of the POM components and another ABS component being made. In this way, it is possible to improve the sliding and avoid the emission of a. squeak or grinding noise. At least one of said devices of plastic material that does not suffer from a change in sensitive mass may belong to a mechanism for actuating the product. At least one of said elements of plastic material that does not suffer from variation of sensitive mass, may be non-apparent from the exterior of the device. At least one of said elements of plastic material that does not suffer from a change in sensitive mass, may be in direct contact with the product. Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will arise from reading the following detailed description, from the non-limiting examples of embodiment, and from the examination of the attached design, in which: - Figure 1 is a schematic view in axial section of a first example of lipstick case, figure 2 is a schematic exploded view of the drive mechanism of the case of figure 1, - figure 3 is a schematic view, in axial section, of a second example of lipstick case , and - Figure 4 is a schematic view in axial section of a third example of a lipstick case. In figures 1 and 2 a case 1 according to a first embodiment of the invention has been represented. In this example, the case 1 includes an outer cover comprising a body or base 2, a movable cover 3 and a drive mechanism 4 intended to allow axial movement of a product bar P. The mechanism 4 has a structure known per se. is, and is constituted by the assembly of three elements, namely a sheath 5 * _ a barrel dome 6 and a casing 7. The pod 5 and the dome 6 are made of plastic material and the casing 7 includes a metal sleeve 8 bent by an inner shirt 9 of plastic material. The dome 6 includes ^ in a manner known per se, two spurs 10 diametrically opposed, arranged to slide in two diametrically opposite guide windows 11 of the sheath 5. The ends of the spurs 10 are stuck in the helical grooves 12 of the inner sleeve 9, in such a way that a movement of rotation of the sheath 5 relative to the casing 7 is accompanied by an axial displacement of the dome 6. The body 2 includes a chimney 13 which engages in the casing 5 and which is immobilized in rotation in relation to it. To cause the exit of the product bar P, the user rotates the envelope 7 relative to the body 2 after having removed the closure cover 3. In FIG. 1, only the upper end of the product bar has been represented. P for reasons of design clarity. For further details concerning the structure of a lipstick case of this type, reference may be made to French patent application FR-A-2,248,880. Figure 3 shows a lipstick case, of known structure and described in French patent application FR-A-2 762 763, to which reference may be advantageously made. The case 1 'includes an outer cover comprising a body or base 2' and a closure cover 3 ', the latter housing a driving mechanism 4' including a shell 7 ', a sheath 5' and a rod holder dome 6 '. .
The sheath 5 'is made in one piece before the body 2' and includes two diametrically opposed windows 11 'in which two diametrically opposed spurs 10' of the dome 6 'can slide. The casing 7 'includes a bent outer metal sleeve 8' of an inner sleeve 9 'provided with a helical thread 12'. The operation is similar to that of the case 1. In figure 4 another case has been represented
1"The structure of this case 1" is described in the European patent application EP-A-0, 815, 666. The case 1"includes an outer cover comprising a body or base 2" and a closure cover 3", the body 2" and the sheath 3"are for example made of metal, the case 1" includes a drive mechanism 4"comprising a set 5" of fixed plastic material relative to the body 2", a cover 7"which can rotate in relation to the latter and a bar-shaped dome 6." The dome 6"is integral with a threaded pin 20 of plastic material, coupled in an element 21 that forms the nut belonging to the assembly 5".
The casing 1"includes a metal sleeve 8", movable in rotation relative to the body 2"but fixed in translation, in which a plastic insert 22 is fitted in. The threaded pin 20 includes two diametrically opposed beads on its length, not apparent in the drawing, since they are parallel to the cutting plane of figure 4. The insert 22 has two driving surfaces, not shown in figure 4, which come to rest on the heels of the tang 20, so that the rotary drive of the casing 1"is accompanied by a rotation movement of the pin 20, the latter being nevertheless free to move axially relative to the insert 22, the threads of the pin 20 become stuck in the element 21. In this way, the rotation of the pin 20 is accompanied by an axial displacement of the dome 6"in the sleeve 8". It will be noted that the closure cover 3"includes an insert 23 provided with moldings 24. The latter come to engage over the corresponding grooves of the sleeve 8", when the cover 3"is on its seat for the purpose of obtaining a seal .
In all the examples of embodiment that have just been described and according to the invention, to make the components of plastic material materials chosen are used so as not to present a change in sensible mass when they are placed in prolonged contact with the vapors of the solvent (s) volatile contents in the product P. By sol vpnr-p vol i 1 is understood, in the sense of the present invention, a liquid non-aqueous medium at room temperature (25 ° Cl and under normal atmospheric pressure (760 mm of mercury), susceptible to evaporating from the skin or lips in less than an hour A solvent of this type can be chosen from media having a vapor pressure, at room temperature and at normal atmospheric pressure, ranging from 10"3 to 300 mm of mercury (0 ^ 13 a_ a_ 4_Q ,, Q00 Pa) In the embodiments described, the solvents considered are hydrocarbon oils comprising from 8 to 16 carbon atoms or their mixtures. Oils can be chosen from branched alkanes of 8 to 16 carbon atoms and their mixtures. For example isoparaffins of 8 to 14 carbon atoms or isododecane, isohexadecane or isohexyl neopentanoate are used, with isododecane being preferred. As a preferred commercial example of the latter compound, mention may be made of Permethyl 99A from the company PRESPERSE INC. The product P contains, in the described embodiments, between 5 and 90% volatile solvents, and preferably at least 20%. The product P can have, for example, one of the following compositions:

Operation mode
The particulate phase C is ground in phase A with the aid of a three-roll mill. The polyethylene wax is added immediately and heated to 100 ° C. 1S
until the wax is completely dissolved. The phenyltrimethicone and mica are added immediately at 100 ° C, and then the isododecane at 80-90 ° C. It can then be emptied at 80-85 ° C in suitable molds to obtain bars. In all the described embodiments, the product P contains a non-negligible proportion of isododecane and the plastic components of cases 1, 1 'and 1"of non-polyolefin thermoplastic materials are chosen. of high density polyethylene, usually found for the manufacture of known lipstick cases, styrenic materials, for example polystyrenes (PS) ^ and their copolymers (SB, SAN, ABS), polyvinyl chloride and their derivatives, polyacrylates (PMMA), polyoxymethylenes (POM), polyamides (PA) and saturated thermoplastic polyesters, mainly ethylene polyterephthalate (PET) The tests carried out by the company of the applicant have shown that such materials, when exposed during a prolonged duration to isododecane vapors, do not suffer, of variation in sensible mass, in a manner contrary to polyolefins such such as polypropylene or high density polyethylene.
Tests have been carried out using the sheath, the dome and the inner sleeve of cases 1 and 1 ', the polystyrene-acrylonitrile (SAN). These tests have shown that the variation in mass, after a prolonged exposure to isododecane vapors, is less than 0.4%. A 1"case has also been manufactured, elaborating all its plastic acrylobutadiene-styrene components (ABSl) and the measurements made have not allowed to verify a variation in weight of the components, after a prolonged exposure to isododecane vapors. invention is generally applicable to all known lipstick cases, for those where the outer shell includes polypropylene or high density polyethylene, these materials will be advantageously replaced by ABS or an ABS / SAN copolymer. It is advantageous to use different materials in order to obtain better movement characteristics, in particular better sliding and reduced operating noise, so that a different material can be used to produce one of the components of the drive mechanism. that which serves to elaborate the other components of the mechanism * sien One of the components, for example, made of POM and the other components of ABS. The invention has made it possible to confirm that, in addition to the preservation of the product, a dimensional stability of the components of the plastic material of the case over a prolonged period is guaranteed., even in case of storage at a relatively high temperature. The comparative tests have shown that the mechanisms that include the polyolefin components undergo dimensional variations susceptible to modify in a sensible way the couple to apply, to cause an axial displacement of the portabarra dome even to the limit, leading to the clogging of the mechanism. The invention also makes it possible to prevent the bar from drying out after a loss of the solvent, which can lead to a narrowing of its diameter and a detachment of the dome that carries it; in addition, the drying of the bar is accompanied by a hardening that prevents a correct extension of the product on the lips.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments that have just been given. In particular * the invention is not limited to the case where the hydrocarbon solvent contained in the product is the isododecane. Besides, the. The invention is not limited to lipstick cases but is generally applied to all conditioning and application devices in which a sealing is sought and in which components of plastic material exposed to vapors are used. hydrocarbon solvents contained in the product.
It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known by the applicant to carry out the aforementioned invention * is the conventional one for the manufacture of the objects to which it relates.
