The invention comprises a support apparatus, formed from foldable sheet material, such as corrugated paperboard, for irregularly shaped articles. The support apparatus is configured to be inserted within and, in turn, supported by the side and bottom walls of a carton having rectangular cross-sections, which carton may be of conventional configuration. The support apparatus includes portions which separate the irregularly shaped article from the side walls and top and bottom walls of the carton. In addition, the support apparatus includes portions which are configured to stabilize the article vertically, horizontally and transversely, and to yield or deform, when the carton is exposed to schocks or other external forces, so as to absorb such forces and reduce transmission of such forces to the article.
