Abstract

Se ha encontrado que pueden obtenerse numerosos beneficios soplando con aire asfalto en presencia de al menos un polímero altamente saturado, tal como poliisobutileno, y un polímero reactivo que tiene grupos glicidilo, tales como un etileno-glicidilo-acrilato. Por ejemplo, esto permite corrientes de asfalto que generalmente no serían comercialmente viables para soplado en asfalto industrial que se pueden usar en productos de techado y una amplia gama de otras aplicaciones. Por ejemplo, esta técnica se puede usar para soplar con aire asfaltos de grado de pavimentación actualmente disponibles en asfalto industrial para productos de techado. Otros beneficios potenciales que se pueden obtener al poner en práctica esta técnica incluyen un tiempo de procesamiento más corto (tiempo de soplado con aire), reducción de emisiones y revestimientos soplados con capacidad para condiciones climáticas mejorada. En una modalidad de esta invención el asfalto es soplado con aire sólo parcialmente antes de añadir el polímero para obtener un producto que tenga características deseadas para aplicaciones específicas.
