Abstract
La Mezcla Asfáltica, y sus costos asociados o propios, y las operaciones necesarias para su aplicación, constituyen el material universal de elección para la pavimentación y reparación de carreteras. Sin embargo, este material notable tiene algunas desventajas, entre las más importantes está el hecho de que su gestión se lleva a cabo a temperaturas relativamente altas, debido a que algunos de sus componentes se oxidan en unas pocas horas endureciéndose por la baja ductilidad, lo que hace que sea poco atractivo, y que para diluirlo requiere grandes volúmenes de disolventes que al fin se evaporan una vez que los caminos son pavimentados, lo que trae consecuencias ambientales. Uno de sus mayores inconvenientes es que una vez preparado este material se debe aplicar en las carreteras en un tiempo relativamente corto, por lo general menos de 8 a 10 horas. Por supuesto, esto significa que debemos tener plantas de asfalto en las inmediaciones de las carreteras a pavimentar. Con el fin de disminuir los inconvenientes anteriormente descritos que presenta la mezcla asfáltica convencional, como que se endurece entre 6 a 8 hora desde el momento de la salida de la planta, se ha desarrollado una formulación (Catalizador de asfalto de mezcla CTL3) que permitirá para aumentar significativamente el tiempo de vida útil de las mezclas asfálticas catalizadas, sin necesidad de condiciones térmicas rigurosas, la reducción de los costes, lo que ofrece una variedad de beneficios operativos que dan al producto final (CTL3) una gran ventaja competitiva con respecto a las formulaciones de asfalto convencional.
