DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION | Figures 1-5 illustrate a toilet seat assembly 100, which includes a ring or seat for adults 105, a removable child's ring or seat 110, a cover or lid 1 15, a first hinge 120 and a second hinge 125. Hinges 120 and 125 are secured to a toilet bowl in a manner known As shown in figure 1, the hinges 120 and 125 couple the adult seat 105, the child seat 1 10, and the i lid 1 15 together, while allowing each of the adult seat i 105, the child seat 1 10 and the cover 1 15 rotate about a horizontal axis 130. The hinges are conventional except for a projection or pin 135 extending inwardly from each hinge. As shown in Figure 4, a pin 135 extends along the axis 130 of the hinge 120 towards the hinge 125. Similarly, a pin 35 extends along the axis 30 of the hinge 125 towards the hinge 120. Preferably, the hinges are made of plastic. Alternatively, other suitable materials (for example metal) are used. In some constructions, hinges of the slow closing type are used.
As shown in Figure 2, the adult seat 1Q5 includes an adult ring portion 145 that defines an adult opening 150. The adult seat 105 also includes a pair of shock absorbers 155 in the lower portion of the portion. of ring 145 (shown in figure 5). The shock absorbers 155 separate the adult seat 105 from the toilet bowl when the adult seat 105 is in the lowered position. In some constructions, the adult seat 105 is an open-faced or U-shaped seat. Preferably, the adult seat 110 is made of wood I compression molded. Alternatively, other materials are used1 suitable (for example plastic). ! As shown in figures 1 and 2, the child seat 110 includes a child ring portion 160 that defines an opening for children 165. The child seat 10 also includes a first shoulder, extension or arm 170 extending rearwardly from the ring portion. 160, and a second shoulder, the extension, or arm 175 extending toward back from the ring portion 160. The outer perimeter of the seat for children 1 10 is larger than the outer perimeter of the adult opening 150. The child opening 165 is smaller than the adult opening 150, as shown in figure 5. In other respects, the size and shape of the child seat 1 10 may vary. As shown in Figure 2, the child seat 1 10 also includes a magnet 180 secured to the ring portion 160 and a splash guard 182 extending towards I down from the ring portion 160. The magnet 180 is preferably located near the front of the child seat 1 10. The guard against Splash 182 is located on the front of the child opening 1651. i Preferably, the child seat 110 is polypropylene molded po'r I injection. Alternatively, other suitable materials are used (eg example, other plastics or compression molded wood). ' As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the arms 170 and 175 j are separated from one another and are preferably in a parallel position with one another. The arms 170 and 175 are also preferably symmetrical images i I one of another, and each one has a rear end 184 that has in the same a hole, opening, opening, cavity or recess 190 with opening out J Although the illustrated hole is a blind hole, or has an inner end I closed, this is not necessarily the case. The gap could pass through | of the whole arm. The recess 190 in the arm 170 receives the pin 135 of the hinge 120, and recess 190 in arm 175 receives pin 135 from the hinge 125. The arms 170 and 175 are elastically flexible, so that the rear ends 184 of the arms 170 can be pressed towards each other ( and 175 (as shown in Figure 4), and arms 175 will return to their! original positions when released (as shown in figure 3). Then, as shown in figure 3, the arms 170 and í 175 are returned to their original or relaxed positions so that the recesses 190 receive their respective pins 35 to pivotally engage the arms 170 and 175 to their respective hinges 120 and 125. As shown in FIG. 4, to uncouple the child seat 1 of the hinges 120 and 125, the arms 170 and 175 are tightened towards each other to remove each pin 135 from the corresponding recess 190, and the child seat 1 10 can then be removed from the rest of the toilet seat assembly 100. ., Alternatively, only one of the arms 170 and 175 is flexible to remove the child seat 1 10 from the hinges 120 and 125 by tightening the flexible arm towards the other arm. Alternatively, the pins and the gaps between the arms and the hinges can be exchanged as appropriate. For example, each of the arms may include a pin with extension outwardly and each of the hinges may include a recess with extension inward so that each pin is received by a respective recess. Also, one of the arms could include a pin with the i respective hinge which includes a recess for receiving the pin and the other of the arms could include a recess with the respective hinge that includes a pin for the recess to receive the pin.
In use, the lid 1 15 is pivotable from a lowered position (not shown) to a raised position (figures 1, 2 and 5). The adult seat '105 is also pivotable from a lowered position (figures 1, 2 and 5) to a raised position (not shown). When the adult seat 105 is in the lowered position, the child seat 110 can be pivoted between the storage position (Figure 2) and a lowered position (Figures 1 and 5). As shown in Figure 5, in the lowered position, the child seat 110 sits on the adult seat 105 so that the adult seat 105 supports the child seat 1 10 and the child opening 165 is positioned within the child seat. the limits of the opening for adults 150.
