Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un nuevo gen denominado en la presente DSM-2; este gen se identificó en el Streptomyces coelicolor A3; la proteína DSM-2 está relacionada en forma distante con el PAT y BAR; la presente invención además provee genes optimizados de plantas que codifican las proteínas DSM-2; el DSM-2 se puede utilizar como un rasgo transgénico para impartir tolerancia en plantas y células de plantas a los herbicidas glufosinato y bialafos; un uso preferido de los presentes genes es en forma de marcadores seleccionables; el uso de este gen como marcador seleccionable en un sistema bacteriano puede incrementar la eficiencia para las transformaciones de plantas; el uso de DSM-2 como marcador único de selección elimina la necesidad de un marcador de antibiótico medicinal adicional, tal como el de resistencia al ampicilina, durante la clonación; además son posibles varios usos adicionales de acuerdo con la presente invención.
