Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un procedimiento para la obtención de ácido bórico a partir de minerales de colemanita y-o howlita, caracterizado porque comprende los pasos de: a) tratar el mineral con ácido sulfúrico a una temperatura entre aproximadamente 85 grados C y el punto de ebullición de la mezcla de reacción a fin de disolver el boro, que queda en solución de la suspensión que se forma; b) separar la solución de los sólidos insolubles de la suspensión; c) hacer reaccionar la solución separada, con ácido sulfhídrico a una temperatura de aproximadamente 23 grados C a aproximadamente 40 grados C para precipitar las impurezas de arsénico y fierro, d) separar las impurezas precipitadas, de la solución remanante; e) enfriar la solución remanente hasta una temperatura comprendida entre aproximadamente 23 grados C y aproximadamente 28 grados C para precipitar el ácido bórico, y f) separar el ácido bórico precipitado, de la solución remanente.
