Abstract

본 장치는 조사시스템(3)과, 이런 조사시스템을 포함하는 평면 패널화상 디스플레이 장치에 관한 것이다.
조사시스템(3)은 출구면(19)과 4개의 단부면(13,14,15,16)을 가지는 광학적으로 투명한 재료로된 광도파관(9)을 포함한다. 광원(11)에서 나온 광은 적어도 한 단부면(13)을 통해 광도파관(9)으로 결합된다. 조사시스템(3)은 추가로 광원에 의해 공급된 광을 편광하기 위한 편광수단을 포함한다. 편광수단은 확산기(23)와 조합해서 반사 편광기(21)로서 사용된다. 반사 편광기(21)는 광도파관(9)과 일체로 되고 출구면(19)에 마주보고 위치된 광도파관(9)의 표면(25)을 이룬다. 확산기(23)는 광도파관(9)으로부터 먼 편광기(21)의 표면상에 존재한다.

제1도는 평면 패널 화상 디스플레이 장치의 사시도, 제2도는 빔통로가 도시되어 있는, 본 발명에 따른 조사시스템의 실시예의 사시도, 제3a도는 및 제3d도는 광원의 다른 형상을 지닌 조사시스템의 약간의 실시예를 도시한 사시도.

Claims (16)

  1. 출구면과 광원이 대향해 놓이는 적어도 한 단부면을 가진 다수의 단부면을 가지고 광학적으로 투명한 재료로된 광도파관과, 상기 광원에 의해 방출된 광을 편광하기 위한 편광수단을 포함하며, 광이 상기 도파관의 단부면에 결합될 수 있는 조사시스템에 있어서, 상기 편광수단은 상기 광도파관의 출구면에 마주보고 위치된 광도파관의 표면상에 존재하는 반사 편광기에 의해 구성되어 있고, 상기 편광기의 표면은 확산기가 제공된 광도파관으로부터 멀리 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 반사 편광기으로부터 먼 확산기의 측면상에 반사경이 배치되어 있는것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  3. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 반사경은 편광 회전 또는 소멸 반사경인 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  4. 제2항 또는 제3항에 있어서, 상기 반사경이 대부분 완전히 반사하는 입지를 포함하는 포일인 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  5. 제1항, 제2항, 제3항, 제4항 있어서, 소멸효과를 가진 반사경이 광원으로부터 먼 적어도 한 단부면 상에 배치되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  6. 제1항, 제2항, 제3항, 제4항 또는 제5항에 있어서, 상기 반사편광기가 콜레스테릭 편광기인 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  7. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 콜레스테릭 편광기는 액정 폴리머 재료의 싱글층으로서 사용되고, 상기 층내의 분자 나선형의 피치는 전체 가시 파장 영역을 커버하는데 필요한 반사 밴드의 각 상한값과 하한값에 대응하는 두 값 사이에 연속적으로 변하는 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  8. 제6항 또는 제7항에 있어서, 상기 조사시스템은플레이트를 포함하며, 여기서 n은 기수의 수인 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  9. 제8항에 있어서, 상기플레이트는 광도파관의 출구면상에 존재하는 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  10. 제8항에 있어서, 상기플레이트는 콜레스테릭 층과 광도파관 사이에 존재하는 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  11. 제8항에 있어서, 상기플레이트는 광도파관으로서 기능을 하는 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  12. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 반사 편광기는 복굴절 재료를 포함하는 적층체 층 또는 복굴절과 비복굴절을 번갈아 놓은 적층체 층으로서 사용되는 선형 편광기인 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  13. 제1항 내지 제12항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 확산기는 반사 편광기의 표면상에 제공된 박막인 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  14. 제1항 내지 제13항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 확산기는 상기 반사 편광기의 표면내에 제공된 광확산 구조체인 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  15. 제14항에 있어서, 상기 광확산 구조체는 불연속 확산 영역의 패턴에 의해 구성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 조사시스템.
  16. 디스플레이될 화상정보에 따라 조사시스템에 의해 발생된 광의 편광의 방향을 변조하기 위한 화상 디스플레이 패널이 제공된 조사시스템을 포함하는 평면 패널 화상 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 상기 조사시스템은 제1항 내지 제15항 중 어느 한 항에서 청구된 바와 같은 것을 특징으로 하는 평면 패널 화상 디스플레이 장치
