본 발명은 페놀과 프로필렌으로부터 고순도이면서 고수율로 오르토이소프로피페놀(ortho-isopropyl phenol)을 제조하는 방법에 관한 것으로 오르토이소프로필페놀은 농약으로 사용되는 살충제인 메틸이 소프로필페닐카바메이트(일명 MIPC) 및 인계 가소제인 이소프로필페닐 포스페이트(일명 Reofos) 등의 중요한 중간체로서 널리 사용되고 있다. 종래에도 감마-알루미나 촉매 존재 하에서 페놀과 프로필렌을 반응시켜 제조하였으나, 고온, 고압의 반응조건에서 전환율이 저조하고 페놀의 원단위를 증가시키고, 목적 생성물과 비점차가 작은 2,6-디이소프로필페놀, 이소프로필에테르 등의 부산물이 생성되어 선택율이 낮다. 본 발명은 이러한 문제점을 해결하여, 고순도의 오르토이소프로필페놀을 고수율로 제조하였다.The present invention relates to a process for preparing ortho-isopropyl phenol from phenol and propylene in high purity and high yield.
