New 2-phenoxy pyrimidine derivatives of formula (I) are prepared by reacting the cpd. of formula (II) and the cpd. of formula (III) in the presence of a base and solvent at room temp.-120 deg.C for 1-24 hrs.. The base is sodium hydride, potassium hydride, sodium hydrogencarbonate, potassium hydrogencarbonate, sodium carbonate, or potassium carbonate (pref. potassium carbonate). The solvent is tetrahydro furan, 1-4-dioxane, dimethylform amide, dimethylacete amide, dichloromethane or benzene (pref. dimethylform amide). In the formulas, R1 is H or C1-4 alkoxy; R2 is C1-4 alkyl, phenyl or acetyl; R3 is C1-4 alkyl; X is halogen, methyl sulfonyloxy or benzyl sulfonyloxy. The obtd. derivs. are useful as herbicide.
