It has long been practiced to cast tubular metal castings by centrifugal force using a permanent mold consisting of a circular cross-section active mold surface: commonly referred to as an in-mold or later in-mold action surface. The mold here rotates around the longitudinal axis of the working surface. Centrifugal casting molds are made of metals with significantly different melting points than the metals to be cast, and the molds are not damaged when contacted with the moltencasting metal, and the castings do not lift the refractory layer from the mold internal working surface. It was necessary to cover the working surface of the mold with refractory material so that the final casting could be separated from the mold. One example used by those skilled in the art for embedding casting moulds is the application of zircon powder or silica powder, typically as a slurry of microparticulate refractories on the surface of the mold, which is an example of Hyeri M. . It was used for stationary molds, not centrifugal forces, as described in US Pat. No. 1,622,354 to Williams, and for centrifugal casting as described in US Pat. No. 3,527,285 to Fred Junior Weber. . They have been very favorably accepted but have practical drawbacks in use, in particular need to be ventilated to remove water vapor generated during casting, and it is difficult to maintain adequate strength and uniformity at all times on coatings on mold surfaces. Since the casting molten metal tends to penetrate, the casting surface becomes rough and the difficulty of machining increases due to the presence of refractory particles in the cast metal.
In an effort to avoid this drawback, it has been proposed to use resin binders and other active agents, as shown in U.S. Patent No. 3,056,692 to Kotada Koshiro, but such coatings are very expensive, and gaseous at casting temperatures There is a tendency to generate a product and there is a need to vent the mold. As described in Donald and Arbo, US Patent No. 3,110,067, it has been proposed to spray resin binders with the intention of eliminating the need to vent the mold, but this is a relatively expensive refractory and resin in use. Need it.
It has also been proposed to supply only particulate refractory material to achieve the grain structure of the cast metal without using water or other fluid media and without additional binders such as bentonite and resins. As described in US Pat. No. 1,949,433 to Norman F., S., and P. C., et al., This example uses a carrier gas to transport particulate refractories to the surface before casting metal is injected into the mold inner working surface. To form a very thin coating of refractory material limited to less than 0.025 millimeters in thickness. This example has been applied to casting articles that do not require a particularly smooth outer surface, such as a pipe, but is not suitable for a product that must be formed with a relatively smooth outer surface that requires chillediron, such as an engine cylinder liner. The casting surface according to this embodiment is very rough, and in order to cast to a smooth outer surface, a substantial machining is required, and in particular, the properties of the thin coating of the particulate refractory material are lifted by the casting and very hindering the machining. This reduces the machining speed and drastically reduces the life of the cutting tool. The use of thin sheathed refractory also imposes substantial limitations on the manufacture of articles in which no external extensions are formed, as long as the extensions are slanted and elongated outwards and are not positioned at the shortest end of the mold. It is supposed to be received.
These very thin interiors also have the disadvantage of not being able to provide adequate thermal insulation to delay the solidification of the molten metal and thus have to be molded from A-type graphite. It is an absolute requirement for the goods.
A disadvantage of the prior art is that the refractory material is relatively expensive, and it is difficult to recover the refractory material for reuse after casting. Materials like zircon powder are more expensive than cast molten metal. When additional materials such as clay, bentonite or resins are used, the use of refractory materials becomes practically impossible. Even with the use of thin refractory layers such as those described in US Pat. No. 1,949,433, many refractory materials are released by casting and other methods and are simply consumed and difficult and expensive to recover.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for producing tubular metal articles by centrifugal casting which coats a highly effective refractory material on the working mold surface without the need for ventilating the metal mold since no fluid media, binder or other additives are used. There is. It is still another object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for coating a refractory material of which the refractory particles are not lifted by casting and the casting surface is smooth and easily machined.
The object of the present invention is that despite being limited by the repositioning angle of the refractory material to be used, the coating layer of the refractory material is relatively thick and the casting is contoured to achieve an accurate shape with respect to the outer surface and the horizontal annular outer flange is It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for molding without being machined or using a machined mold.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus in which the refractory material can be recovered in a highly efficient state and reused for continuous casting.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus in which a refractory supply apparatus, a contour molding apparatus and an excess refractory recovery apparatus are combined into one. It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus without the need for a mold end core.
Another object of the present invention is an iron alloy, such as a cylinder liner blank, made of an outer flange or other extension, which is formed of graphite of AFA type A over almost any thickness and its overall length. An apparatus for centrifugally casting an article is provided.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, a microparticulate free-flow refractory material having a melting point higher than the temperature of the cast molten metal to be cast, a specific gravity of at least 2, 5 and a particle size of at least 95% of the particles smaller than 105 microns Appropriate amounts are supplied to the working surface of the mold in the circular cross section, and the mold is rotated to diffuse the particles of refractory material on the working surface. The final refractory layer is then densified because the mold is rotated at a constant rate of centrifugal force to achieve a specific gravity of at least 7.5.
The inner surface of the densified refractory material is contoured by rotating the mold at a speed such that the contouring tool is opposed to the inner portion of the copper refractory layer and at the same time densifies the refractory layer. It extends in the longitudinal direction of the mold and is formed of working edges which have the same contour as the desired contour with respect to the outer surface of the article to be cast.
The amount of initial particulate refractory injected into the mold is much higher than that required for the finished refractory layer, and the excess refractory is recovered immediately upon contouring operation from the embedded mold. The shape and location of the contouring tool and the amount of particulate matter are at least 5 times the maximum size of the particulate material in the thinnest portion of the contoured refractory layer (collectively the part consisting of the outer flange or other extension of the casting). A radial thickness of size, which must be molded significantly larger than the maximum size of the particulate refractory particles, and the thinnest part of the refractory layer in the final interior should provide a relatively smooth surface to the molten metal.
As the refractory layer is contoured, the molten metal to be cast is injected, and at the same time the mold provides centrifugal force such that the molten metal is at least 10 of the refractory layer until the molten metal covers the inner surface of the densified refractory layer. Allowed to rotate at speed. The molten metal is then solidified, typically cooled as the mold is rotated as needed, and the casting is then recovered from the mold, which is recovered by substantial disintegration of the refractory layer.
While the casting is recovered, the refractory is recovered by a vacuum collector, and the recovered refractory is sorted to remove impurities and transported for storage in another casting operation for reuse. In particular, an advantage of the present invention is to use an excess refractory collector that is extended to the same length as the effective length of the supply shaping barrel, the contouring tool and the mold, and the shaping barrel rotates around the longitudinal axis for a predetermined rotational position. It is arranged to automatically position the contouring tool at a suitable distance from the working surface.
The present invention provides a device for forming a relatively thick layer composed only of particles of fine refractory material as a built-in for the working surface of the centrifugal casting mold, the refractory worm must be precisely contoured to match the shape to fit the outer surface of the cast article (Limited by the repositioning angle of the particulate refractory material used), the contoured surface of the refractory layer is densified and firm so as not to be invaded by molten metal during casting.
In the present invention, a zircon powder having a specific gravity of 4.56 and a small amount of the particles larger than 75 microns and some of the particles smaller than 43 microns is used without centrifugal casting without any fluid media, binders or other additives (no need to vent the metal mold). Providing a device for injection into a mold, the mold being rotated to diffuse the refractory material to cover the working surface of the mold in the form of a relatively thick refractory layer, the refractory layer having a suitable centrifugal force such that its specific gravity is at least 7.5. Densification can only be achieved by rotating the mold to apply the densified refractory layer can be contoured in the form of the article to be cast, and the contoured refractory layer can be cured only by increasing the rotational speed of the mold, The nature of the intestine thus produced is that the casting outer surface of the tubular article centrifugally cast in the mold It is significantly smoother than the outer surface of the article casting facing the refractory viscera of the silica sand combined with the resin produced by the tooth and can be separated from the zircon powder particles.
Attempts to achieve the same result by zircon yarn with particle sizes of about 77% trapped on a 140 mesh screen (greater than 105 microns) failed. When the mold is rotated at the speed of centrifugal force to the
When the interior of the refractory material is completed, if there is a mold with an inner diameter of 5.45 inches, the centrifugal gravity (G) generated at the working surface of the intestine can be determined by the following equation.
(1) (One)
Centrifugal force of
Using microparticulate refractories with known specific gravity, the material exhibits an equivalent specific gravity when the mold is subjected to centrifugal force during rotation, which is determined by
(G)(2) Equivalent weight = actual weight x gravity (G)
The equivalent specific gravity of zircon powder with an actual specific gravity of 4.56 is 65 under a centrifugal force of 14.25. In general, the refractory linings produced according to this method consist of very small particles, which are hardened so as not to invade by the cast molten metal with very small voids on the interior surface. To achieve this result, the refractory material has a specific gravity of at least 2.25 and does not melt or decompose at temperatures near the temperature of the cast molten metal to be cast, and at least 95% of the particles are fine enough to be less than 105 microns and also have a working surface of the mold. The mold should be rotated at a rate such that the equivalent weight of the refractory (by equation (2)) is at least 7.5 when contouring the refractory layer. The centrifugal force applied to form the equivalent specific gravity of 7.5 maximizes the microparticles. Increasing the mold rotation speed after the intestines are densified increases the strength of the refractory layer, but does not densify or change the size of the refractory layer.
The device uses zirconium silicate as a finely ground zircon yarn, which can be best operated by zircon powder with an actual specific gravity of 4.56 and 75% of the particles smaller than 43 microns, with the refractory layer at least for contouring. It can be molded by rotating the mold at a rate that generates centrifugal force so that the specific gravity is 19, and then the rotational speed is increased so that the specific gravity is at least 40 for casting so as to increase the strength of the tightly contoured refractory layer. do. Using silica powders with specific gravity of 2.6 and distribution of particles of the same size, good results can be obtained when generating a centrifugal force with a specific gravity of at least 33 in order to densify the refractory layer before the mold rotation speed is contoured. have. In the case of magnesite (magnesium oxide, minus) with a specific gravity of 3.58 and all particles smaller than 74 microns, good results can be obtained when a centrifugal force can be generated such that the specific gravity is at least 24 for densification.
The device of the present invention has particular advantages in the centrifugal casting of tubular articles, wherein the outer surface of the tubular articles consists of at least one transverse annular portion having a diameter different from the diameter of the main body of the article.
The conventional internal combustion engine, cylinder liner blank shown in FIG. 1, is a typical article thereof, and has a staff columnar tubular body B composed of a lateral extension F disposed outward from the daily end flange being machined. It includes. An advantage of the present invention is that it is possible to form a relatively thick internal layer with particulate refractories and that the refractory layer can be contoured according to the desired shape in a casting which is limited only by the repositioning angle of the used particulate refractories. to be. Thus, as will be described in detail later with respect to the casting cylinder liner blank as shown in FIG. 1, the refractory layer is formed thicker than the radial height of the extension F, and its size is typically 0.14 inches (3.55). Millimeter) and contoured by a contouring tool in which the longitudinal axis is inclined to be shaped into a refractory layer of transverse annular grooves conforming to the shape of the extension F. The thickness of the refractory layer at the bottom of the groove should be made as small as possible to balance the refractory layer to be dense and smooth on the surface, and should be adequately thermally insulated to control the granular structure of the casting metal.
Thus, the thickness of the refractory layer at the bottom of the groove, the thinnest part of the refractory layer, is at least 5 × 43 = 215 microns or at least five times as thick as 0.0085 inches for the interior made of zircon powder, which is the main part of the particulate refractory, In particular in all cases the particulate refractories are significantly larger than the maximum size of the largest particles. FIG. 2 is typical of a cylinder liner blank having a flange extension F outside diameter of 5.45 inches (138.43 millimeters) and a total length of the main tubular body B of 5.17 inches (131.32 millimeters).
The radial thickness (X) of the refractory layer over the entire length is 0.155 inch (3.94 millimeters), and the radial thickness (Y) of the refractory layer at the bottom of the groove is 0.015 inch (0.381 millimeters), with 0.381 millimeters of 75% zircon intended to be used. The approximate size of the powder is about 8.8 times larger than 43 microns.
If using the interior as described in detail in FIG. 2A and molded by the apparatus of the present invention, gray cast iron cast against the thicker main part of the refractory material is AFA type A, which is the main component throughout the inner surface and the thickness of the surface thereof. Gray castiron, which is characterized by being graphite and cast against copper grooves, is characterized by AFA type A graphite, which is the main component covering almost all parts of the inner surface and extension. As the relatively thin internals forming the grooves are not thermally insulated as almost all parts of the relatively thick internals are thermally insulated, the additional heat is continued from the metal of the main body with better thermal insulation to the metals of the grooves. In the case of supplying, it occurs because the heat transfer is faster through a relatively thin internal organ at the bottom of the groove, so that the metal is not rapidly cooled in the groove so as to suppress the formation of A-type graphite.
(입자성 내화물의 재배치 각도에 따라서만 제한됨).This phenomenon occurs because the metal of the mold absorbs more heat in the thinner portion of the refractory layer than the rest of the mold, and the temperature difference (heat loss rate or cooling effect rate from the molten metal) decreases. Keeping the mold temperature between 300 ° F and 500 ° F also reduces the cooling effect of the mold. Surprisingly, this contouring of the refractory is readily accomplished after densification of the refractory layer, followed by lubrication, casting in which the rotational speed of the mold is maintained for longer than the period between the contouring of the refractory layer and injection of the cast molten metal. It is made to the correct size during operation. (Limited only by repositioning angle of particulate refractory).
In order to form the viscera using the apparatus of the present invention, an amount of fine particulate refractories that significantly exceeds the amount required for the viscera is injected into the mold, and the mold is rotated at a predetermined speed or at a predetermined speed. In this case, the total amount of particulate refractories is centrifugally diffused on the surface of the mold-resistant surface to form an evenly refractory layer that is significantly thicker than the thickness required for the intestine, and then the mold rotation speed is increased to densify the refractory layer. Contour the inner surface of the layer, with the contour reducing the thickness of the refractory layer to a certain precise size and allowing the contour to immediately recover the excess amount of refractory. If no excess refractory is used, the refractory layer embedded with centrifugal force cannot be contoured and it is also difficult to form a reasonably smooth surface for the final interior. The inner surface of the refractory layer embedded by centrifugal force tends to form a wavy corrugation, forming a shallow hill and valley extending around it. The hills protruding into the interior can be removed by a contouring tool equipped with a straight contouring blade, but in the case of using a contouring blade, the internal diameter of the internal organs is determined by the amount of particulate refractories required for the internal organs. If only a dose is injected, the internal diameter of the internal organs increases.
The contouring of the original refractory layer can be achieved while the mold is rotating at the speed used for densification, and the contoured refractory layer hardens by increasing the casting rotational speed to the desired rate for casting at the mold rotational speed, where the densification rate is Lower than casting speed If almost all particles use zircon powders finer than 5.43 microns, good results can be obtained when the mold is rotated to provide
Another advantage of the present invention is that it does not require the use of binders or other additives, so that the refractory can be recovered when the casting is deviated from the mold, and the zircon powder can be used as a refractory. At this time, its mortality rate is high and the refractory can be easily recovered using a vacuum apparatus after casting. Therefore, the present invention is very economical because it saves a relatively expensive refractory material. The present invention can also be applied to centrifugal casting of metals, and typical cast iron, alloy cast iron, ductile iron, steel, bronze brass and aluminum can be cast.
As a specific example, the following is described.
1][Example 1]
The cylinder liner blank in FIG. 1 is cast from gray cast iron using centrifugal force using a device constructed as described in FIGS.
Combined male and female tool and contouring tools require a large amount of It is filled with about twice the amount of zircon powder. The mold was not thoroughly ventilated and the nominal inner diameter was formed so that the inner diameter of the final interior, consisting of the main body portion of the final refractory, 0.155 inches (3.94 millimeters), was formed at 5.45 inches (13.85 centimeters). ) The combined shaping canister and the contouring tool were inserted into the mold up to the position shown in FIG. 3, rotated counterclockwise to the position shown in FIG. 3, and the mold was not rotated to release all zircon powder. Left.
The mold was then rotated counterclockwise as shown in FIGS. 3-3B at a speed of 500 r.pm, so that the entire amount of refractory was spread evenly across the inner surface of the mold. The centrifugal force generated at pm speed is placed under the gravity of 19.35, and the combined configured U-pass contouring tool is rotated clockwise as shown to move the edge of the contouring tool to the position shown in FIG. 3b.
In this position, the edge of the contouring tool and the blade portion of the tool extending into the mold species allow the contouring tool to remove excess refractory and to carry the refractory back into the U-shape by the contouring tool.
The mated U-shape and the contouring tool are positioned in FIG. 3b for several seconds and then rotated clockwise as shown in the initial position shown in FIG. 3 to ensure recovery of all excess refractory. The combined shaping keg and contouring tool were then axially deviated from the mold, and the recovered excess refractory was left in the shaping keg for use in the next casting operation. No additives or mediators are used. The contouring tool allows the grooves to be formed in the zircon powder layer, each groove having the same shape as the extension F for the rider blank connected between the two ends, and the thickness of the refractory layer at the bottom of the groove is about 0.38. It is millimeters and the main body thickness of the refractory layer is 3.94 millimeters. The time taken for the zircon powder to be discharged from the mold to withdraw the combined k-shaped barrel and the contouring tool from the mold was one minute.
With the contoured zircon powder embedded layer intact, the mold is increased in speed at 800 r.pm, and molten gray cast iron is injected into the mold in a conventional manner using a right angled injection boot, while at the same time Continue until the casting cools and solidifies. The chemical composition of the gray cast iron to be used is as follows.
The mold is then stopped and the injection oot is removed while the casting is recovered axially. During this recovery, the decomposed zircon powder layer becomes powdered, and the zircon powder is recovered for reuse. Examination of the casting reveals that the outer surface of the casting is clean, smooth and free of zircon powder particles. The size of this casting is within tolerances ± 0 01 inches (25.4 millimeters). The same part of the castings in a mold formed of a silicaous or silica-resin mixture of aqueous slurries with less refractory build-up can have less machining time and significantly reduce the wear of the contouring tool. The graphite structure is mostly made of AFA type A graphite over the entire wall thickness of the article main body part, and at least 1/2 of the radial thickness of the inner surface and the end flange enlargement part is made of AFA type A graphite. The casting is recovered from the mold by a fork truck. One clean corrugated metal article is placed on the floor below the end of the recovered mold and the refractory, which does not fall naturally, is manually removed from the casting by using a wire brush. The received refractory can be successfully used because it is newly recovered into a refractory that is injected from the corrugated metal plate past the sieve into the container and forms a viscera for another casting operation.

In centrifugal casting operation, when the flange ends are joined to each other in a structure as shown in FIG. 1 to produce a tubular blank made of six cylindrical liners, the working edge of the
As shown in FIG. 3, the cross section of the
The
The
Since the
The degree of approach of the
Because of the play of the wheels and similar variations, the
In the stationary frame of the mold supporting and
Each positioning rod 60 is externally arranged to engage the end of the positioning beam 61 when the
The particulate refractory is uniformly filled in the
Using refractory materials such as zircon powders of relatively high specific gravity, the rotational speed of the mold for dispersing them can be applied to densification of the refractory layer before contouring.
The total amount of particulate refractory is dispersed in a relatively thick layer as a result of the rotation of the mold, and when densification is made, the
The contouring blade thus recovers all excess refractory back into the U-shape, in which case the refractories are retained by the U-shape and the U-shaped shaping edges in combination, the ultimate effect of which is the precise thickness and contour required for the final interior. Until the refractory layer is smooth (limited only to the repositioning angle of the particulate refractory). Thus, the straight portion of the
The excess refractory recovered in the U-shape by operation of the
The
Excess refractory to this site is recovered as the end of the U-shape by
This allows the end rings 10 and 15 to be formed into a stepped surface and the contouring blade to form the
The viscera produced by the device of the present invention is a complete monolithic viscera from the end ring to the end ring, with no joints as well as visceral connections, made to a certain exact radial thickness and having a precise contour following the contouring edge. If the mold is standardized for the cylindrical interior blanks described with reference to FIG. 1, the rotational speed of the mold can be increased to 500 r.pm to solidify the refractory interior, and 900 r before inserting the molten metal. You can increase it further up to .pm. Even when the
The device 5 (FIG. 6) is used to withdraw the casting from the mold and recover the visceral refractory material as the injection booth is moved and the
The device (5) comprises a conventional puller mounted in a fixed position with a prime mover (71) operated at a fluid pressure arranged coaxially with the mold, and puller when the piston rod of the prime mover is completely projected. The collector 75 is formed of a housing 78 composed of flat end walls 79 and 80, which is firmly mounted to the
When the puller is placed closer, the end wall 80 is coaxial with the opening 81 and is rounded with a circular opening 82 with a diameter larger than the largest outside diameter when the body is pulled. . The end walls 79 and 80 are separated by a distance smaller than the length of the casting. The
When the
When the puller is operated to recover the piston rod, the casting is first drawn through the opening 81 and then through the inside of the housing 78, then through the opening 82 and above the
When six cylindrical viscera blanks are made of a single casting by viscera blanks coupled between flange ends, as shown in FIG. 1, the casting includes three transverse annular extensions formed of three recesses in the refractory viscera of the mold. Molded into parts such as a single pipe of uniform outer diameter, except for six liner blanks that can be separated by cutting the casting at the center of each extension and at the center of each fuselage.
The housing 78 except the openings 81 and 82 is in an airtight state. The housing protrudes far enough above the position of the mold. The
As shown in FIG. 7, the
Each
The position of the shaft and the effective diameter of the
The
Particulate refractory linings do not contain any binder and because they do not have a substantial effect on the casting temperature, they are separated from the casting by shaking off all refractory materials. The
The straight portion of the
Air flowing from the centrifuge 104 is carried to the inlet of a conventional
The air intake for the housing 78 is limited to a small space between the interior of the mold and the wall of the opening 82 and the casting.
Since the
In this respect, as the casting is pulled out, the lateral outer extension formed by the
In addition, since the

As shown in detail in FIG. 9, the working surface of the mold is a staff column and the upper extension for the casting is shaped by the thickness of the refractory lining. In some cases, however, it is desirable to contour the metal casting operating surface, particularly in the case of relatively large castings which must make one casting at a time. Thus, the working surface 109 of the mold is operated to form the increased diameter surface portion 109a at the portion occupied by the outer extension of the casting, and the relatively small diameter staff pillars 109 and 109a. ) Are connected to the truncated cone portion 109b. The layer of particulate refractory material forming the refractory lining is made as described with reference to FIGS. 2-8, wherein the layer is embedded with a portion 110a of the mold action surface portion 109a overlaid with the viscera. Molded on contouring tools standardized to be significantly thinner than the main body. The interior 110 overlapping the mold action surface 109 is inclined with uniform thickness from the main body 110 to the thin layer portion 110a.
The main body 110 of the internal organ is staff pillar type. Although the mold is designed to partially accommodate the outer extension of the casting, relatively high heat transfer is achieved through the relatively thin refractory layer of the gut, but the metal does not cool rapidly at this location.
