Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing a copolymer, and specifically to a method for producing a heat-resistant copolymer using an aromatic vinyl monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer, and an imide monomer, a copolymer prepared therefrom, and a thermoplastic resin composition containing the same. It's about.
In general, styrene-based copolymers have excellent moldability, rigidity, and electrical properties, so they are used in various industries, including OA devices such as computers, printers, and copiers, home appliances such as televisions and audio devices, electrical and electronic components, automobile parts, and miscellaneous goods. It is widely used.
Among these, products that require heat resistance, such as automobile interior and exterior materials, are used by mixing heat-resistant styrene-based copolymers with diene-based graft copolymers such as ABS resin. Here, the heat-resistant styrene-based copolymer is manufactured by adding a heat-resistant monomer such as α-methylstyrene monomer or a maleimide-based monomer such as N-phenylmaleimide to increase heat resistance, and the maleimide-based monomer has particularly high heat resistance. Used in products.
However, maleimide monomers form a charge transfer complex with aromatic vinyl monomers such as styrene, and at the beginning of polymerization, an alternating copolymer of aromatic vinyl monomers and maleimide monomers is formed. , As the maleimide monomer is consumed, the composition of each monomer in the copolymer changes in various ways.
Specifically, the copolymer is an alternating copolymer of aromatic vinyl-based monomers and maleimide-based monomers produced at the beginning of polymerization; A terpolymer of an aromatic vinyl monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer, and a maleimide monomer; And after the maleimide monomer is consumed, a copolymer composition is prepared in which a binary copolymer formed from an aromatic vinyl monomer and a vinyl cyanide monomer are mixed together.
That is, when copolymerizing an aromatic vinyl monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer, and a maleimide monomer, not only are the monomer units in the copolymer formed non-uniformly, but the product is manufactured as a copolymer composition in which copolymers with different repeating units are mixed. There is a problem that the glass transition temperature of the copolymer decreases accordingly.
In order to solve this problem, methods using continuous bulk polymerization or solution polymerization have been proposed when producing the copolymer. However, in the case of these polymerization methods, it is difficult to control the polymerization temperature due to the heat of reaction, and the viscosity increases. As a result, the polymerization conversion rate is limited, and unreacted monomers ultimately remain, and accordingly, a separate process for recovering unreacted monomers needs to be performed.
In addition, a method using emulsion polymerization has been proposed when producing the copolymer. However, when using the emulsion polymerization method, unreacted monomers, polymerization additives, etc. remain in the polymer, causing coloring or discoloration of the copolymer, and polymerization reaction. Afterwards, the slurry must be produced through a coagulation process and then go through post-treatment processes such as washing, dehydration, and drying, which causes problems with reduced production efficiency, equipment, and wastewater treatment.
The present invention was developed to solve the problems of the prior art. It prevents the hydrolysis reaction of monomers, reduces the content of residual monomers or oligomers, prevents discoloration resulting from this, improves heat resistance, and has excellent mechanical properties. The purpose is to provide a method for producing a copolymer.

It provides a method for producing a copolymer, which is added in an amount of from 0.50 parts by weight to 0.50 parts by weight.
In addition, the present invention includes an aromatic vinyl-based monomer unit, a vinyl cyanide-based monomer unit, and an imide-based monomer unit, the oligomer fraction in the copolymer is 3.70% or less, the glass transition temperature is 165 ° C. or higher, and the color difference is measured using a colorimeter. A copolymer having a measured chromaticity a value of -0.80 to 0.80 is provided.
Additionally, the present invention provides a thermoplastic resin composition comprising the above copolymer and a thermoplastic resin.
According to the method for producing a copolymer of the present invention, the heterogeneity of monomer units in the copolymer can be improved and the hydrolysis reaction of the monomer can be suppressed, thereby significantly reducing the content of residual monomers or oligomers. Additionally, this allows the copolymer to have excellent chromaticity characteristics and a high glass transition temperature.
In addition, the thermoplastic resin composition containing the above copolymer not only has excellent thermal properties such as heat resistance, but also has excellent color characteristics and mechanical properties.

The present invention provides a method for producing a copolymer. Specifically, the method for producing the copolymer may be a method for producing a heat-resistant copolymer into which an imide-based monomer is introduced, and as a more specific example, it may be a method for producing a heat-resistant styrene-based copolymer.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the method for producing the copolymer includes the step of initiating polymerization by introducing a reaction solution containing an aromatic vinyl monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer, and an imide monomer into a reactor (S1); And a step (S2) of polymerizing a first monomer solution containing an imide-based monomer and a second monomer solution containing an aromatic vinyl-based monomer and a phenol-based antioxidant while continuously introducing them into the reactor, wherein (S2) The first monomer solution and the second monomer solution in the step are continuously added from the step (S1) until the polymerization conversion rate is 60% to 80%, and the phenolic antioxidant is added in an amount of 0.07 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the total monomer input. It is added in amounts ranging from 0.50 parts by weight.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the (S1) step is a step of initiating polymerization, which may include adding the reaction solution into the reactor and then raising the temperature of the reactor to a predetermined temperature. Even in the step (S1), if the internal temperature of the reactor rises above the predetermined temperature, polymerization may proceed in the presence of a polymerization initiator.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, in step (S1), the internal temperature of the reactor may be raised to about 60°C to 120°C, preferably 70°C to 110°C, more preferably 80°C to 110°C, Even more preferably, the temperature may be raised to 85°C to 105°C. In the process of increasing the internal temperature of the reactor in the step (S1), the time of reaching the initial temperature is when the polymerization conversion rate is 10% or before 10%, or before 7%, preferably before 5%. Depending on this, it may be before 3%.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the phenol-based antioxidant is not added in step (S1). When a phenol-based antioxidant is included in the reaction solution along with the monomers at the beginning of polymerization, in addition to inhibiting the hydrolysis reaction of the monomers, it can inhibit the polymerization reaction itself, and as a result, polymerization may not be completed to a high conversion rate. , there is a problem that it may have a negative effect on physical properties.
Accordingly, the reaction solution in step (S1) includes an aromatic vinyl monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer, and an imide monomer, and may further include one or more additives selected from the group consisting of a polymerization initiator, a dispersant, a dispersing aid, and a molecular weight regulator. and polymerization can be initiated from this reaction solution.
Meanwhile, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the polymerization in steps (S1) and (S2) may be performed by suspension polymerization. In the case of the bulk polymerization method, when the content of the imide monomer increases, there may be limitations in the process due to the problem of a rapid increase in viscosity, so it is preferable to produce the copolymer through suspension polymerization. In the case of the suspension polymerization method, even though it has a high polymerization conversion rate by using a water-soluble solvent such as water as a medium, it has the advantages of easy control of the reaction, small amount of additives, and simple washing process, which solves the same problems as bulk polymerization. You can.
In general, the suspension polymerization method is a batch polymerization in which the reactants including the monomers used for polymerization are put into a reactor in batches before the start of polymerization to proceed with polymerization. At this time, the imide-based monomer forms a charge transfer complex with an aromatic vinyl-based monomer such as styrene, and an alternating copolymer of the aromatic vinyl-based monomer and the imide-based monomer is formed at the beginning of polymerization. As the imide-based monomer is consumed, the composition of each monomer in the copolymer changes in various ways, which causes the heat resistance of the copolymer to decrease.
In addition, suspension polymerization is carried out in an aqueous system, but there is a problem that imide-based monomers such as N-phenyl maleimide are hydrolyzed in the aqueous phase, and maleic acid and aniline generated from the hydrolysis reaction of these monomers undergo oxidation reactions to form various substances. It creates compounds, and these compounds are oligomers that change the color of the resin and reduce its heat resistance.
Accordingly, in the method for producing a copolymer according to the present invention, a first monomer solution containing an imide-based monomer and a second monomer solution containing an aromatic vinyl-based monomer and a phenol-based antioxidant are added to the (S2) step, We seek to solve the above-mentioned problem by adopting a continuous injection method while maintaining a constant speed for a certain period of time.
Specifically, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the imide-based monomer contained in the first monomer solution is divided and added to the (S1) step and (S2) step, and the imide-based monomer is added in an amount of 1% to 40% by weight. % is added in bulk in the (S1) step, and 60% to 99% by weight is added in the (S2) step to improve the heterogeneity of the monomer units in the prepared copolymer and to increase the polymerization reaction time or polymerization conversion rate. By preventing a decrease in the glass transition temperature of the copolymer, the glass transition temperature of the produced copolymer can be maintained high. Here, the weight percent based on the imide monomer refers to the weight percent based on the total input amount of the imide monomer.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the meaning of continuously adding may mean that a certain amount is continuously added in batches according to the polymerization conversion rate, or it may mean that it is continuously divided and added while maintaining a constant speed. there is. The constant speed may mean the input speed of the imide-based monomer that is continuously divided and added, and as a specific example, it may mean a constant flow rate. That is, according to one embodiment of the present invention, 60% to 99% by weight of the imide-based monomer added to the (S2) step is constant immediately after the (S1) step, that is, after the internal temperature of the reactor is raised to a predetermined temperature. It may be continuously and dividedly injected while maintaining the speed, and as a specific example, it may be continuously injected into the reaction system while maintaining a constant flow rate from immediately after the step (S1) until the end of the infusion. In this way, when 60% to 99% by weight of the imide monomer is continuously divided and added at a constant rate, it is possible to minimize the difference in polymerization rate due to the difference in reactivity between the monomers, thereby maintaining the polymerization rate constant. As a result, it is possible to produce a copolymer with a uniform composition of monomer units.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, 1% to 40% by weight of the imide monomer is added in bulk to the (S1) step, and 60% to 99% by weight is added to the (S2) step when the internal temperature of the polymerization reactor is polymerized. It may be added continuously from the time the temperature is reached (immediately after step (S1)) until the polymerization conversion rate is 60% to 80%. In other words, the polymerization start time may mean the time immediately after step (S1) when the internal temperature of the polymerization reactor reaches the polymerization temperature. In addition, 76% to 99% by weight of the imide monomer added in the (S2) step is added until the polymerization conversion rate is 60% to 80%, 65% to 80%, 70% to 80%, or 75%. In this case, the monomer concentration can be kept constant during polymerization, making it possible to minimize the difference in polymerization rate due to the difference in reactivity between monomers, so that the polymerization rate is maintained constant and the copolymer has a uniform composition of monomer units. It is possible to manufacture an effect.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, 1% to 40% by weight of the imide monomer is added in bulk in the (S1) step, and 60% to 99% by weight is added in the (S2) step when the internal temperature of the polymerization reactor is polymerized. It may be continuously added for 120 to 240 minutes from the time the temperature is reached. In addition, 60 to 99 wt% of the imide-based monomer added in step (S2) is 120 to 240 minutes, 150 to 240 minutes, or 180 to 240 minutes from the time the internal temperature of the polymerization reactor reaches the polymerization temperature. minutes, or 210 minutes. In this case, it is possible to minimize the difference in polymerization rate due to the difference in reactivity between monomers, thereby producing a copolymer with a uniform composition of monomer units while maintaining a constant polymerization rate. There is a possible effect.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the imide-based monomer is preferably added in bulk in the step (S1) before the start of polymerization in an amount of 5% to 25% by weight, or 10% to 20% by weight, and 75% to 95% by weight. Weight%, or 80% to 90% by weight, may be added to the (S2) step after the start of polymerization, and within this range, the heterogeneity of monomer units in the copolymer is improved and copolymers with different repeating units are formed. It has the effect of minimizing the creation of mixed copolymer compositions and preventing the resulting decrease in glass transition temperature.
In addition, according to one embodiment of the present invention, 20% by weight to 80% by weight of the aromatic vinyl monomer contained in the second monomer solution is added in bulk in the (S1) step, and 20% by weight to 80% by weight ( It is continuously introduced in step S2). Here, the weight percent of the aromatic vinyl-based monomer means the weight percent of the total amount of the aromatic vinyl-based monomer. In this way, by dividing the monomers into the initial and mid-polymerization stages, the polymerization system can be controlled so that the monomer concentration is maintained at a constant concentration throughout the polymerization maintenance time, and through this, the imbalance in the composition between chains can be resolved, resulting in glass transition. High temperatures can be achieved and oligomer formation can be minimized.
The aromatic vinyl monomer contained in the second monomer solution is preferably added in an amount of 30% to 70% by weight in the (S1) step, and 30% to 70% by weight may be added continuously in the (S2) step. , more preferably, 40% to 60% by weight may be added all at once in the (S1) step, and 40% to 60% by weight may be added continuously in the (S2) step. The more this desirable range is satisfied, the more the aforementioned effects can be maximized.
In particular, the second monomer solution contains a phenol-based antioxidant. The phenol-based antioxidant is not added in the (S1) step, but is added in a dissolved state in the aromatic vinyl monomer only in the (S2) step.
The phenol-based antioxidant is added with the expectation of having the function of preventing hydrolysis of hydrolyzable monomers such as imide-based monomers. When added in step (S1), the antioxidant generally acts as a polymerization terminator. Therefore, there is a possibility that it acts to prevent polymerization rather than performing the expected function, and thus it is difficult to maximize the polymerization conversion rate, which may cause various problems. In addition, if the phenol-based antioxidant is added at the end of step (S2), that is, after all polymerization has been completed or when the conversion rate exceeds 80%, there is a very high possibility of stopping the polymerization, making it impossible to achieve a high conversion rate. , it is difficult to mix with the existing polymerization phase, and thus it is difficult to achieve the desired antioxidant effect.
Accordingly, in the method for producing a copolymer according to an embodiment of the present invention, the phenol-based antioxidant is included in the second monomer solution and added to the polymerization system in a continuous manner in step (S2). When applying this method, there is no point at which the concentration of the antioxidant increases in the polymerization system, and the polymerization inhibition function can be prevented due to the dilution effect in that it is added together with the aromatic vinyl monomer in the second monomer solution. It can effectively prevent the formation of oligomers due to hydrolysis and oxidation of imide monomers.
Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the applied antioxidant is a phenol-based antioxidant. There are various types of antioxidants, but the most frequently used ones are phenol-based antioxidants and phosphorus-based antioxidants. However, phosphorus-based antioxidants react with other additives, such as inorganic additives such as Na 2 SO 4 and dispersing aids, to There is a problem that it can form insoluble salts such as lophosphite, which can reduce chromaticity characteristics and gloss, and is especially prone to decomposition in the aqueous phase, which may reduce its effectiveness in suspension polymerization. Accordingly, in the present invention, it is preferable to use a phenol-based antioxidant.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the phenol-based antioxidant is 2,4-bis(N-octylthio)-6-(4-hydroxy-3,5-di-t-butyl anilino)-1, 3,5-triazine, 2,2'-thiobis(4-methyl-6-t-butyl phenol), triethylene glycol-bis-[3-(3-t-butyl-5-methyl-4-hydride) hydroxyphenyl)propionate], pentaerythrityl-tetrakis[3-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate], octadecyl-3-(3,5- di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, 2,2-thiodiethylene-bis[3-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate], 1,6-hexanediol-bis[3-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate], tris-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxy Benzyl)-isocyanurate, 1,3,5-trimethyl-2,4,6-tris(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)benzene, N,N'-hexamethylenebis (3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamamide) and 3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxybenzylphosphonate-diethyl ester, etc. may be applied, octadecyl It is preferred to use -3-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate.
In addition, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the phenol-based antioxidant is added in an amount of 0.07 to 0.50 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the total monomer content. If the phenol-based antioxidant is added in an amount less than 0.05 parts by weight, the effect of preventing hydrolysis and oxidation of the monomer cannot be properly obtained, and there is a problem that the oligomer ratio increases, which may lead to a decrease in chromaticity and thermal properties. there is. In addition, when the phenol-based antioxidant is added in an amount greater than 0.50 parts by weight, the concentration may be significant for the polymerization reaction in the polymerization system, which may cause a decrease in polymerization reactivity. Therefore, in order for the phenol-based antioxidant to perform only its intended function, it is necessary to add it at an appropriate time in an amount within the above range, preferably at 0.09 to 0.35 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the total monomer input. It can be.

In the following examples and comparative examples, the polymerization conversion rate was measured by the following method.
수득된 건조 중합물의 중량을 측정하여, 하기의 수학식 1을 통해 계산하였다.* Polymerization conversion rate (%): When preparing the copolymers of Examples and Comparative Examples, a sample of 4 g of polymer was collected and completely dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF). Next, methanol (MeOH) was added to obtain a precipitate, and the obtained precipitate was vacuum dried to completely remove the solvent to obtain a dry polymer. The weight of the obtained dry polymer was measured and calculated using Equation 1 below.
1][Equation 1]

Referring to Table 1 above, in the case of Examples 1 to 5, the polymerization conversion rates were all achieved at a maximum of close to 99%, the oligomer fractions were all low at 3.6% or less, and the chromaticity a value was also close to 0. It is confirmed that you have it.
On the other hand, in Comparative Examples 1 to 8, the antioxidant was not added (Comparative Example 1), the antioxidant was added only before polymerization (Comparative Example 2), or only after polymerization was completed (Comparative Example 6), or the antioxidant was added only before polymerization (Comparative Example 2). When added before and after completion of polymerization (Comparative Example 7), it can be confirmed that there is a problem that the polymerization conversion rate is not achieved at the maximum, the oligomer fraction is high, and the glass transition temperature is low. Furthermore, it was confirmed that there was a problem in achieving the conversion rate even when the amount of antioxidant added was large, and when the amount added was small, the problem was that the oligomer fraction was high and the color characteristics were poor, and when the antioxidant was added too late (comparative example) 8) is predicted to have poor heat resistance properties due to the high oligomer fraction and low glass transition temperature.

Referring to Table 2, it can be seen that in the case of Examples 1 to 5, heat distortion temperature and softening point, which are indicators of thermal properties, are all superior compared to Comparative Examples 1 to 8, and impact strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength It is confirmed that the mechanical properties are also at the same or higher level. In addition, the chromaticity characteristics also showed uniform chromaticity characteristics without any unusual values.
Meanwhile, in the case of Comparative Examples 2, 5, and 8, the chromaticity a value was measured at a similar level to that of the Examples, but these Comparative Examples did not achieve the maximum polymerization conversion rate and could not overcome the disadvantage of low yield.
