Description
The present invention relates to an ink composition for gravure printing.
Gravure printing refers to an engraving photo engraving method in which the image to be printed is carved by cutting into the surface of the printing plate. A type of printing in which ink is applied to a corroded intaglio plate and the excess ink is scraped off with a doctor blade. means. The ink used here is called gravure ink.
Compared to other printing methods, gravure printing is capable of high-speed printing and has fewer restrictions on the substrate, so it can be easily printed on not only paper, but also plastic film, metal, and wood, and is widely applied to packaging films.
Solvent-type inks for gravure printing use toluene, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), EAc (ethyl acetate), xylene, and ethyl cellosolve (EC) as solvents or diluting solvents. These are volatile organic substances. As a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC), it is a regulated substance.
The above organic solvents are released into the air during the ink drying process, causing air pollution, are harmful to the human body when exposed directly to workers, and pose a risk of fire during printing. In particular, if these organic solvents remain in the printed matter, hygienic printed matter cannot be obtained, and the organic solvents with low boiling points evaporate during the printing process, thereby changing the viscosity of the ink and deteriorating printing workability.
In order to solve the above problems of organic solvents, the use of water-based gravure ink was considered, but it is not widely used for various reasons such as printing drying problems and low productivity, and it is impossible to use in existing gravure printing equipment. There is a downside.
In addition, the existing alcohol-based ink composition used methanol as a solvent, but methanol is a toxic substance and has the problems that organic solvents have, and vinyl resins such as polyvinyl chloride contained in the ink composition do not dissolve, resulting in uniform printing. In addition, there is a problem in that the ink hardens due to rapid volatility, causing a decrease in printing quality.
The ink composition for gravure printing provided by the present invention does not use any VOC-regulated substances and is more stable to the environment and the human body.
Although the ink composition of the present invention contains a curing agent, the curing reaction with the curing agent lasts 3 to 5 days, and the pot life of the curing reaction is long compared to the short curing reaction of the conventional ink composition of about 30 minutes, resulting in wastage of ink. The present invention is intended to provide an ink composition for gravure printing in which the solvent is ethanol alone. The ink composition of the present invention includes a main solution containing vinyl resin, polyurethane, pigment, and solvent, and a curing agent.
Hereinafter, the ink composition of the present invention will be described in more detail.
The ink composition of the present invention includes polyurethane. The polyurethane serves as a binder that adheres the ink composition to the printed material, increases adhesion between the ink and the printed material, and improves the quality of gravure printing.
For example, the ink composition of the present invention is printed on the surface of OPP film, PET film, nylon film, or aluminum foil, and the polyurethane can provide excellent adhesion to various such materials, so it is preferred. can be used
In addition, polyurethane has low residual solvents and has excellent film performance such as lamination processability, anti-soluble properties (oil, vinegar, fragrance), and retort resistance, making it suitable for use in snacks, boils, and high pressure. It can also be suitably used in packaging for retort (Hi-Retort) products.
The polyurethane of the present invention has a -NH 2 group at the end, and can be used as a product produced by reacting polyol with isocyanate, amine compound, and glycol.
First, the polyol is preferably a polyol mixture of polyester polyol, polyether polyol, polycarbonate polyol, and polycaprolactam polyol. By using a mixture of these polyols, the physical properties of the polyurethane obtained can be improved and workability can be improved.
The polyester polyol can be classified into polyols synthesized by the polycondensation reaction of an acid and a hydroxy compound, and polyols synthesized by ring-opening addition polymerization of caprolactone monomer, all of which can improve the physical properties of polyurethane. As it is possible, it can be suitably used in the present invention. However, when the polyester polyol is used alone, problems may occur in the working process due to the high viscosity of the composition, and the durability of the polyurethane is reduced.
The polyether polyol is manufactured by reacting a low molecular weight diol or triol with an epoxide in the presence of an alkali catalyst, and has superior hydrolysis resistance compared to the polyester polyol. However, when such polyether polyol is used alone, although it has excellent solvent resistance, there is a problem in that the generating ability is lowered, and there is also a limitation in that the adhesive strength of the composition is insufficient.
The polycarbonate polyol has an OH group at both ends and has a structure in which carbonate is bonded to the main chain. This polycarbonate polyol can provide excellent water resistance, heat resistance, and weather resistance compared to polyurethane. However, when the polycarbonate polyol is used alone, the viscosity of the composition increases and the price is high, resulting in an increase in raw material costs.
The polycaprolactam polyol is a polyol obtained through ring-opening addition reaction of lactone or its derivative with a small amount of diol, triol or amine as an initiator.
The present invention improves the physical properties of polyurethane by utilizing the advantages of each polyol by mixing the above polyols and offsetting the problems of each polyol by using other polyols, and also improves the workability of the composition. The intention is to improve the back.
The mixing ratio of each polyol is not necessarily limited to this, but based on 100% of the total weight of each component used in the production of the polyurethane, 1 to 10% by weight of polyester polyol, 1 to 10% by weight of polyether polyol, and polycarbonate. It is preferable to use a mixture of 1 to 10% by weight of polyol and 1 to 10% by weight of polycaprolactam polyol.
By mixing and using the above polyols in the content ratio within the above range, it is possible to secure excellent physical properties in terms of low viscosity, solvent resistance, film strength, flexibility, color development, and surface smoothness as a binder for gravure ink.
It is preferable to use each of the above polyols having a weight average molecular weight of 1000 or more and 4000 or less. If the weight average molecular weight of any one of the polyols constituting the polyol mixture is less than 1000, there is a risk that the physical properties of the polyurethane may deteriorate, and if it exceeds 4000, drying properties may be problematic.
The polyol is preferably contained in the range of 20 to 40% by weight based on 100% of the total weight of each component used in polyurethane production. When polyol is used in an amount within the above range, it is preferable to satisfy the required physical properties of the ink.
The isocyanate reacts with polyol, glycol, and amines to form a polyurethane urea bond.
The isocyanate may be aliphatic isocyanate or aromatic isocyanate. The aliphatic isocyanate is not particularly limited, but includes, for example, hexamethylenediisocyanate (HDI), isophoronediisocyanate (IPDI), 4,4'-methylenedicyclohexyldiisocyanate (4,4) '-methylenedicyclohexyl diisocyanate; H12MDI), etc., and aromatic isocyanate is methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), 2,4-toluene diisocyanate (2,4-toluene diisocyanate; TDI), or 2,6 -Toluene diisocyanate (2,6-toluene diisocyanate; TDI), etc. can be mentioned. Any one of these can be used individually, or two or more types of them can be mixed and used.
The isocyanate is not particularly limited, but is included in the range of 10 to 20% by weight based on 100% of the total weight of each component used in producing the polyurethane. If the isocyanate content is less than 10% by weight, it may cause a decrease in physical properties such as adhesion, solvent resistance, and durability, and if it exceeds 20% by weight, the viscosity of the ink is high, causing a decrease in working speed, and there is a problem of excessively high hardness.
In the synthesis of the polyurethane, an amine compound is included as a chain extender to satisfy the workability and physical properties of ink. The amine compound reacts with the isocyanate to produce a urea bond.
Examples of the amine compounds include methylamine, trimethylamine, ethylamine, aniline, diethylamine, and benzylamine. Of course, any one can be used alone, and two or more types can be mixed and used.
The amine compound is contained in the range of 2 to 5% by weight, based on 100% of the total weight of each component used in producing the polyurethane. If the content of the amine compound is less than 2% by weight, there is a problem of reduced durability, and if it exceeds 5% by weight, the high viscosity may cause problems with dryness, work speed, and flexibility during the work process.
In the synthesis of the polyurethane, glycol is further included as a chain extender or crosslinking agent to satisfy the workability and physical properties of ink. By including the glycol, a high molecular weight polyurethane resin can be obtained.
The glycol is not particularly limited, but may include, for example, at least one selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol and butadiene glycol.
The glycol is contained in the range of 2 to 5% by weight, based on 100% of the total weight of each component used in producing the polyurethane. If the glycol content is less than 2% by weight, there is a problem of reduced durability, and if it exceeds 5% by weight, there are problems such as dryness, speed, and flexibility during the work process due to high viscosity.
In the present invention, in the production of polyurethane, additives such as reaction catalysts and antioxidants may be further included.
The reaction catalyst is added to speed up the polyurethane reaction, and it is preferable to use an eco-friendly tin-free type (Tin Free type), for example, a bismuth (V) catalyst. . The reaction catalyst can be added in the range of 1 to 2% by weight based on 100% of the total weight of each component used in polyurethane production.
Meanwhile, the antioxidant is added to delay yellowing of the polyurethane urea resin and ultimately prevent or delay discoloration of the ink. The antioxidant can be suitably used in the present invention as long as it is commonly added to polyurethane resin, and is not limited thereto, but is tri-(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite (tri-(2) , 4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite). The antioxidant may be added in the range of 1 to 2% by weight, based on 100% of the total weight of each component used in producing the polyurethane.
In the synthesis of the polyurethane, a solvent is included. Alcohol can be used as the solvent, and it is preferable to use non-toxic ethanol because it does not place a burden on the human body and the environment. The solvent includes the remaining content, for example, in the range of 60 to 70% by weight based on 100% of the total weight of each component for polyurethane synthesis.
The synthesis of the polyurethane can be performed under normal conditions and is not particularly limited, but for example, can be performed at a temperature in the range of 80 to 90° C. for 12 to 24 hours.
The polyurethane used in the present invention preferably has a -NH 2 group at the end, has a viscosity of 200 to 500 cps (25°C), and has a weight average molecular weight in the range of 100,000 to 200,000. If the viscosity of the polyurethane is less than 200 cps, the viscosity of the ink composition is low, which may cause a problem of staining due to subtle differences in shades of ink, also known as the Oyogi phenomenon, and if it exceeds 500 cps, the viscosity of the ink composition is high, so the application amount , it is disadvantageous in terms of working speed, drying speed, etc. Meanwhile, it is preferable that the weight average molecular weight of polyurethane is in the range of 100,000 to 200,000 to provide optimal viscosity conditions for the ink composition that do not cause problems during the printing process.
The polyurethane used in the present invention is represented by the following formula (1):
In Formula 1, R represents polyol, R' represents isocyanate, R" represents amine, and n is an integer of 10 to 50.
Such polyurethane resin is included in an amount of 4 to 20% by weight based on 100% by weight of the main solution of the ink composition. If the polyurethane content is less than 4% by weight, printability is excellent and highlight transferability is improved, but post-processing adhesion is poor and blocking phenomenon may not sufficiently occur. On the other hand, when the polyurethane content exceeds 20% by weight, post-processing adhesion is excellent and the viscosity is high, which increases the dilution rate. However, due to the increase in viscosity of the ink composition, ink fluidity and printability deteriorate, and raw material costs increase. There is.
The ink composition of the present invention contains a vinyl resin. The vinyl resin serves to improve adhesion between ink and the printed object and the quality of gravure printing. As the vinyl resin, it is preferable to use a resin that is highly soluble in alcohol and has excellent compatibility and solubility with ethanol, and polyvinyl butyral (PVB) is most suitable.
The vinyl resin is preferably contained in an amount of 8 to 12% by weight based on 100% by weight of the main solution of the ink composition of the present invention. If the content of the vinyl resin is added to less than 8% by weight, the viscosity is low and the fluidity of the ink is excellent, but dispersibility is low, so there is a problem with the color development of the ink. If it exceeds 12% by weight, the pigment dispersibility improves, but the viscosity of the ink increases. There is a problem that the adhesiveness with the base film is high and the adhesiveness with the base film is low.
The ink composition of the present invention includes a pigment. The pigment serves as a colorant and provides the basic properties of the ink composition, such as color, concentration, and transparency, and furthermore, depending on the use, properties such as coloring power, hiding power, water absorption, specific gravity, dispersibility, heat resistance, and weather resistance. provides.
Pigments included in the ink composition of the present invention may include organic pigments, inorganic pigments, etc. There is no particular limitation to the pigment, and commonly used pigments can be suitably used in the present invention. Specifically, for example, azo lake, insoluble azo type, condensed azo type, phthalocyanine type, titanium oxide, carbon black, calcium carbonate, aluminum powder, bronze powder, etc. are used according to color and quality. It can be selected and used appropriately.
The pigment may be included in an amount of 10 to 40% by weight based on 100% by weight of the main solution of the ink composition. If the pigment content is less than 10% by weight, the concentration of the ink is too low and the printing color is weak, and if it exceeds 40% by weight, the viscosity of the ink is high and fluidity is poor.
Furthermore, the ink composition of the present invention contains a solvent as the remainder of the main solution, and ethanol is preferably used as the solvent. The specific content of ethanol may be 45 to 75% by weight based on 100% by weight of the main solution of the ink composition.
The solvent controls dissolution of vinyl resin and polyurethane resin, wetting of pigment, viscosity adjustment, drying speed, etc., and conventionally, it is aromatic toluene, ketone MEK, ester ethyl acetate, alcohol isopropyl alcohol, and ether. Propylene glycol, etc. have been used, but these are volatile organic substances that are harmful to the environment and the human body. Therefore, it is desirable not to use such volatile organic substances.
Meanwhile, gravure ink has a low viscosity and dries quickly compared to other printing inks, and uses a large amount of organic solvents. The solvent has excellent solubility in the resin used in the ink, provides good fluidity and viscosity to the ink, improves the wettability and dispersibility of the pigment, and improves the shelf life of the ink as well as printability, strength of the printing film, It must be able to provide the role of maintaining and improving adhesive strength. In addition, the drying speed must be easy to adjust after the ink composition is transferred and adhered to the printing material, and no solvent must remain in the printing film after drying.
Accordingly, the present invention uses ethanol as a solvent to provide the above properties. The ethanol is preferable because it is not a toxic substance, has a carbon dioxide reduction effect, and does not cause problems with residual solvents in food packaging.
Ethanol may be used alone as the solvent, and if necessary, a drying agent may be included to delay the evaporation rate of the ink composition. Diacetone alcohol can be used as the drying agent.
The diacetone alcohol may be included in an amount of 3 to 5% by weight based on 100% of the total weight of the solvent. If the content of diacetone alcohol is less than 3% by weight, the effect of delaying the evaporation rate of the ink composition is not sufficient, and if it exceeds 5% by weight, the evaporation rate is slow, causing the ink attached to the adherend to stick to the guide roll of the printer. As it spreads, problems that deteriorate printing quality may occur, and furthermore, blocking of printed materials may occur.
Furthermore, the ink composition of the present invention may further include additives that can provide functionality as needed. The additives include adhesion reinforcement agents, film reinforcement agents, and antistatic agents.
The adhesion reinforcer is used to improve the adhesion of the ink depending on the film material, and includes urea aldehyde resin or rosin-modified maleic resin, and is contained in an amount of 2 to 5% by weight based on 100% by weight of the total main solution of the ink composition. can do.
The film reinforcing agent is used to prevent scratching by imparting activity to the ink film, and includes polyethylene wax, and may be included in an amount of 0.3 to 1% by weight based on 100% by weight of the total main solution of the ink composition. .
The antistatic agent plays a role of auxiliary prevention of static electricity interference during printing by lowering the electrical resistance of the ink, and various surfactants can be used in an amount of 0.1 to 1% by weight.
In addition, additives such as 0.1 to 1% by weight of an antifoaming agent, 0.1 to 1% by weight of a heat-resisting reinforcing agent, and a transferability improving agent may also be included.
The ink composition of the present invention includes a curing agent, and the curing agent may be an aziridine curing agent. The aziridine curing agent may be a multifunctional aziridine, and specifically, may be propylene imine tri-functional polyaziridine having the structure shown in the following formula (2).
The curing reaction between the aziridine curing agent and the polyurethane resin occurs by reacting with the active hydrogen of the carbonyl group of the polyurethane resin, as shown below.
The curing reaction between the aziridine curing agent and the polyurethane resin can occur for a long time in the presence of an ethanol solvent. That is, even if the curing agent is added to the ink composition containing the polyurethane resin, the pot life of the ink is long, at 3 to 5 days, so the storage life of the ink composition can be prolonged, and as a result, unused ink is cured and discarded. can be prevented.
Furthermore, because the curing reaction time is prolonged, it is possible to obtain printing results with superior printing quality such as solvent resistance, chemical resistance, and heat resistance compared to those using conventional ink compositions.
The aziridine curing agent is not particularly limited, but preferably has a viscosity of 100 to 300 cps (25°C).
The aziridine curing agent is provided separately from the main solution. Aziridine hardener is added to white ink or colored ink compositions requiring heat resistance and other physical properties in the printing preparation stage. Additionally, the aziridine hardener does not contain a separate solvent.
The aziridine curing agent is preferably added in an amount of 1 to 3% by weight based on 100% by weight of the main solution. If the content of the curing agent is less than 1% by weight, a complete reaction with the polyurethane resin does not occur, so the required printing quality such as solvent resistance, heat resistance, and chemical resistance cannot be secured, and if the content of the aziridine curing agent exceeds 3% by weight, When injected, the reaction occurs rapidly, and there is a problem of blocking phenomenon in printed materials due to unreacted hardener.
The ink composition according to the present invention is applied to a gravure printing method using a roll-to-roll method.
The ink composition of the present invention as described above does not use any VOC-regulated substances, so it is more stable to the environment and the human body.
Although the ink composition of the present invention contains a curing agent, the curing reaction with the curing agent lasts 3 to 5 days, and the pot life of the curing reaction is long compared to the short curing reaction of the conventional ink composition of about 30 minutes, resulting in wastage of ink. You can prevent it from happening.
The manufacturing method of the ink composition of the present invention is not particularly limited, but, for example, as shown in Figure 1, it can be manufactured by the following method.
First, a premixing process in which solvent, polyurethane resin, vinyl resin, pigment, and necessary additives are mixed at a predetermined content ratio (mixing process) to cover the surface of the pigment with the solvent, followed by dispersion to disperse the pigment into fine particles. It includes a process and, if necessary, may include an adjustment process that gives functions to the ink. The ink composition completed as a result goes through a quality inspection process to check physical properties such as adhesion, viscosity, and gloss of the ink, and is then packaged into predetermined units before being finally shipped.
When gravure-printed packaging materials are manufactured using the ink composition of the present invention, products with excellent printing quality as shown in Figures 2 and 3 can be manufactured.

As a result of the printability evaluation of the ink compositions of Examples 1 and 2, it was possible to work at a printing speed of 150 m/min or more, the ink was dried well, and blocking did not occur. Additionally, black Gabri phenomenon and white transfer properties were good. In addition, adhesion to the OPP film was good, post-processing adhesion was excellent, and no problems occurred during the drying process. It was confirmed that there were no problems with printability even when the printing speed was increased to 180 m/min.
However, as a result of the printability evaluation of the ink compositions of Comparative Example 1 and Comparative Example 2, a Gabri phenomenon occurred in the black color during the printing process, and staining on the guide roll occurred due to poor drying. Also, in the case of white color, there was a problem of poor printing transferability due to poor printing drying. Due to overall poor ink workability, printing defects increased and printing workability tended to decrease significantly. And when the printing speed was increased to 180 m/min, the printability was very poor due to poor drying.
