Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a battery charging method and system, and more particularly, to a battery charging method and system that can reduce the charging time and the energy required for raising the battery by selectively raising the battery when the charging current can be increased when the battery is charged To a battery charging method and system.
As the batteries of hybrid and electric vehicles gradually become larger, the system for cooling / heating the battery also changes from air-cooled to water-cooled.
The water-cooled battery system must raise the temperature of the cooling water by raising the temperature of the cooling water in order to improve the charging efficiency of the battery left at a low temperature. On the other hand, it is required to shorten the charging time by providing a high current to the battery according to the large capacity of the battery, but the high current charging is possible when the temperature of the battery is properly maintained. Thus, in a high-capacity water-cooled battery system, it is necessary to raise the temperature of the cooling water in order to charge the high current. In order to raise the temperature of the cooling water, much time and energy are required as compared with the heat wire used in the air- Therefore, when the temperature of the battery is continuously increased through the rise of the cooling water temperature during the charging of the high-capacity water-cooled battery system, the energy required for raising the battery is excessively consumed and the charging cost is increased.
In addition, there may be a period in which the charging current does not increase as the temperature of the battery increases, so that only the energy due to the temperature rise of the battery is unnecessarily consumed and energy is wasted.

The
The battery heating means 13 includes a heating wire and a water cooling channel. For example, when the

FIG. 2 is a table showing an example of charge current control performed in a controller of a battery charging system according to an embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a table showing an example of a charge shortening time estimated by a controller in a battery charging system according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 4 is a graph showing a charging amount and an estimated charging time outputted from the battery charging system according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG.
Referring to FIG. 2, the
For example, if the battery cell voltage of the vehicle shown in FIG. 2 is 3.5 V and the temperature of the battery is 3 degrees (①), charging of the battery starts and the charging current of the battery can start charging at 100 A . If the temperature of the battery reaches 10 degrees before the battery cell voltage reaches 3.95 V, the charge current of the battery may be increased to 145 A, which may accelerate the charging rate. In this case, the
When the charging of the battery is started when the battery cell voltage of the vehicle is 4V and the battery temperature is 6 degrees (②), the charging current of the battery can start charging at 90A. Then, when the battery temperature is 10 degrees or more, the charge current of the battery is equal to 90A, but when the battery temperature is raised to 15 degrees or more, the charge current of the battery may be increased to 100A. In this case, the
However, if the cell voltage is 4.01 V and the battery temperature is 11 degrees (③) while the temperature of the battery is being increased to 20 degrees or more, The current can be limited to 90A. In this case, since the charge current of the battery is not changed even when the temperature of the battery is raised, the
On the other hand, if the battery cell voltage of the vehicle rises to 4.06 V and the battery temperature is less than 15 degrees after the above-mentioned temperature rise of the battery is completed, if the battery temperature is raised to 15 degrees or more, However, since the temperature rise of the battery is completed in the
Also, since the battery temperature has already been raised by the charging current as the cell voltage rises, the battery temperature may be above 15 degrees after a time elapses. In this case, if the
Therefore, the
Referring to FIG. 3, the
For example, the
For example, the estimated total charge time of the battery and the estimated charge shortened time of the battery determined in the charge shortened
4 shows the SOC of the battery when the battery temperature is 5 degrees, B is the SOC of the battery when the battery temperature is 25 degrees, and C is the battery temperature when the battery temperature is 5 degrees to 25 degrees , And D represents the battery charge current when the battery temperature is maintained at 5. As shown in FIG.
Here, the total estimated charging time for A (battery temperature 5 degrees) is 170 minutes, the estimated total charging time for B (battery temperature 25 degrees) is 156 minutes, the estimated charging shortening time Is 14 minutes for
Accordingly, the
A method of charging the battery by determining whether the charge current of the battery can be increased in accordance with the temperature rise of the battery in the
5 and 6 are flowcharts showing a battery charging method according to an embodiment of the present invention.
5 and 6, the method for determining whether the charge current can be increased according to the temperature increase of the battery in the battery charging method according to an embodiment of the present invention may be different from each other.
Referring to FIG. 5, the method for charging a battery according to an embodiment of the present invention starts charging a predetermined amount of battery according to the current SOC of the battery and the battery temperature, (S11). At this time, when the
(S12).Next, the
In order to determine whether the charge current can be increased according to the temperature rise of the battery, the
(S122).Next, the
Next, the
If the unit shortening value is larger than the first reference value, the
Next, when the predetermined time has elapsed after the completion of the step S13, the
On the other hand, if the unit shortening value is smaller than the first reference value in step S123, the
If it is impossible to increase the charging current according to the temperature rise of the battery in step 123, the
Next, referring to FIG. 6, steps S21 and S221 of the battery charging method according to an embodiment of the present invention are the same as steps S11 and 121 of FIG. 5, respectively.
(S222). Next, in step S221, the
If the battery shortage estimated time is longer than the battery's estimated total charge time and the preset second reference value, the
Next, when the step S23 is completed and the predetermined time has elapsed, the
On the other hand, if it is determined in step S222 that the expected short-circuit time of the battery is shorter than the predetermined second reference value, the
(S24). If it is impossible to increase the charging current according to the temperature rise of the battery in step S222, the
As described above, in the battery charging method and system according to the embodiment of the present invention, when the charging current can be increased during the charging of the battery, the battery is selectively heated to shorten the charging time of the battery, Saving energy and reducing the cost of charging the battery.
