Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical film for improving contrast ratio, a polarizing plate including the optical film, and a liquid crystal display including the same.
A liquid crystal display device is operated by emitting light from a backlight unit through a liquid crystal panel. Therefore, the contrast ratio (CR) is good at the front of the screen of the liquid crystal display device. However, the contrast ratio of the front side of the screen of the liquid crystal display device is inevitably lowered. There is an attempt to increase the contrast ratio at the side by modifying the liquid crystal panel or the liquid crystal structure. The higher the side contrast ratio, the lower the contrast ratio. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize the reduction of the contrast ratio when the side contrast ratio is raised, thereby improving the visibility.
It is possible to prevent the contrast ratio of the side from being lowered by diffusing the condensed light passing through the liquid crystal panel and the polarizing plate. An optical film including beads may be employed as a method of diffusing the condensed light. Such a method may result in poor diffusion efficiency or difficult processing.
