Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a technology for managing a battery pack, and more particularly, to a battery pack management system for monitoring a battery pack voltage even in an abnormal state of a control unit such as an MCU included in the battery pack, A battery pack including the same, and a battery pack management method, and the like.
Recently, demand for portable electronic products such as cameras and portable telephones has been rapidly increased, and as the use and development of energy storage batteries, robots, satellites, and the like have expanded, attention has been focused on the battery packs used The research is also being actively pursued.
In recent years, various types of portable computers such as a smart phone, a notebook computer, a netbook, and an ultrabook have been widely used. Such a portable computer is used for many users because it provides excellent performance and functions as a computer and also has convenience of mobility. Therefore, it is now easy to see how these portable computers are used in lecture rooms, libraries, buses, and trains as well as in homes and companies, and their use is becoming increasingly common to the general public.
A battery pack used in such a portable computer and various devices typically includes at least one secondary battery, also called a cell. The currently commercialized secondary batteries include nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-hydrogen batteries, nickel-zinc batteries, and lithium secondary batteries. Among them, the lithium secondary battery has been more popular due to the fact that the memory effect is hardly generated compared to the nickel-based secondary battery, the charge and discharge are free, the self-discharge rate is very low, and the energy density is high.
As the application area of the battery pack is further expanded, the safety of such a battery pack is becoming an important issue. Particularly, in the case of a notebook computer or a mobile phone, the use population is rapidly increasing, and explosion of the battery may lead to damage to portable electronic products and damage to persons or fire. Therefore, the battery pack generally includes a management device for managing charge and discharge of the battery pack and ensuring safety.
Such a battery pack management apparatus may include various configurations. Typically, the battery pack management apparatus senses a fuse, a charge switch, a discharge switch, and individual cell voltages in a path through which a charge and discharge current flows, detects an overcharged state or an overdischarged state, A microcontroller unit (MCU) for turning off the fuse or turning off the charging switch or the discharging switch.
In such a configuration, when an overvoltage is generated in the battery pack, the charge / discharge path of the battery pack can be shut off by turning off the charge switch or the discharge switch in a control unit, such as an MCU in a normal state. However, a control unit such as an MCU has a risk of malfunction or temporary malfunction as an electronic part. Of course, as the technology develops, the possibility of malfunction or malfunction of these MCUs has been reduced in recent years, but even a single malfunction may damage the equipment supplied from the battery pack as well as the battery pack itself have.
Particularly, commercialization of pure electric vehicles and electric vehicles including hybrid electric vehicles, which are supplied with driving power from battery packs, are being commercialized in earnest in recent years. However, in the case of such an electric vehicle, when an overvoltage is supplied from the battery pack, it may damage the power system of the electric vehicle as well as the battery pack itself. Furthermore, if an electric power system of the battery pack or the electric vehicle is damaged during operation of the electric vehicle, it may lead to a serious accident, so it is more important to properly shut off the overcharge of the battery pack when it occurs. In addition, in the case of battery packs used in electric vehicles, the overvoltage condition is more dangerous and, in severe cases, may cause a fire because the voltage is very high for high output.
In recent years, development and production of an ESS (Energy Storage System) for storing electric power have become more active as the construction of a smart grid system or the interest in renewable energy is increasing more and more. However, in the case of a battery pack included in such a power storage device, since an extremely large amount of secondary batteries can be included, the MCU is often overloaded, which may increase the possibility of malfunction of the MCU. In addition, since many MCUs are included in the power storage device, it is not easy to identify the MCU that has failed or malfunctioned, and even if a malfunction occurs in a certain MCU, it is not easy to cope with it immediately.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, the present invention has been made to solve the above problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a method and apparatus for quickly and accurately charging and discharging a battery pack regardless of an erroneous operation of the MCU even if a control unit such as an MCU malfunctions in an overvoltage condition of the battery pack. And a battery pack and an automobile which include such a management device.

According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of managing a battery pack including a cell assembly including at least one secondary cell and a battery pack having a charge / discharge path through which a current flows to charge / Wherein a voltage of the cell assembly is input to a first input of a comparator and a reference voltage is input to a second input of the comparator; Outputting a current of a predetermined magnitude or more to an output terminal of the comparator when the voltage of the cell assembly is higher than a reference voltage; The first resistor being connected to the output terminal of the comparator and generating a current of a predetermined magnitude or more; Increasing a resistance of the PTC device by heat generation of the first resistor; And the resistance of the PTC device increases to turn off the FET provided in the charge / discharge path.
According to an aspect of the present invention, by monitoring the voltage of the battery pack separately from the control unit such as the MCU, the charge / discharge path of the battery pack can be quickly and accurately cut off when an overvoltage condition occurs.
Particularly, in the present invention, if the charging / discharging path of the battery pack can not be properly blocked due to a malfunction or a temporary malfunction of the MCU despite the occurrence of an overvoltage condition, the charging / discharging path of the battery pack can be blocked through a separately configured circuit.

Further, according to this aspect of the present invention, a malfunction of a control unit such as an MCU can be compensated.
According to an aspect of the present invention, when the path between the control unit and the FET is cut off in the overvoltage condition of the battery pack, and thereafter the overvoltage condition of the battery pack is released, the path between the control unit and the FET is reversibly activated again do. Therefore, even if the path between the control unit and the FET is cut off, it is reusable, and there is no need to separately replace the parts used for path blocking.
Therefore, according to this aspect of the present invention, maintenance of the battery pack management apparatus is easy and economical.
According to an aspect of the present invention, it is possible to construct an efficient battery pack management apparatus without incorporating a large number of components or performing excessive design change in the conventional battery pack management apparatus.

Here, the
The charge / discharge path P is a path through which a current flows to charge / discharge the secondary cell of the
상기 FET(100)는 MOSFET(Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor)일 수 있다. The
Particularly, the
특히, 상기 제어 유닛(200)은 MCU(Micro Controller Unit)일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 제어 유닛(200)은, ASIC(Application Specific Integrated Circuit)과 같이, 다양한 제품으로 구현될 수 있다.The
The
In particular, the
상기 PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficient) 소자는, FET(100)와 제어 유닛(200) 사이에 연결된다. The PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) element is connected between the
The resistance value of the
Particularly, in the battery pack managing apparatus according to the present invention, the
To this end, the
That is, when the
Particularly, the
As another example, the
Meanwhile, in the case of the
Then, a first current may flow through the
In this configuration, the
As another example, the
In the above-described various configurations, the reference calorific value, which is a reference for enabling the
The total voltage of the
For example, as shown in FIG. 2, when four secondary batteries connected in series to the
In this case, the battery pack management apparatus according to the present invention can monitor the entire voltage of the
Here, the battery pack management apparatus according to the present invention may further include a
According to this configuration of the present invention, the voltage applied to the first input terminal of the
The various components included in the battery pack management apparatus according to the present invention, such as the
3 is a circuit diagram schematically showing a configuration of a battery pack managing apparatus according to another embodiment of the present invention. Hereinafter, a detailed description will be omitted for the portions to which the preceding description can similarly be applied, and the portions having differences will be mainly described.
Referring to FIG. 3, the
The charging
In this configuration, the
At this time, both the charged
In this case, the resistances of the charged
Thus, according to this configuration of the present invention, both the
The battery pack management apparatus according to the present invention can be applied to the battery pack itself. Therefore, the battery pack according to the present invention may include the above-described battery pack management device.
Further, the battery pack management apparatus according to the present invention can be applied to automobiles. Therefore, the automobile according to the present invention may include the above-described battery pack management device. Particularly, in the case of an electric vehicle including a hybrid vehicle, since the driving force is obtained from the battery pack, securing the safety for the battery pack is very important. Accordingly, when the battery pack management apparatus according to the present invention is applied, effective safety of the battery pack for an automobile can be ensured.
4 is a flowchart schematically showing a battery pack management method according to an embodiment of the present invention.
(S120). Referring to FIG. 4, in the battery pack management method according to the present invention, the voltage of the cell assembly is input to the first input terminal of the comparator and the reference voltage is input to the second input terminal of the comparator (S110). Then, the voltage of the cell assembly and the reference voltage may be compared with each other by the comparator (S120).
(S140).Here, when the voltage of the cell assembly is higher than the reference voltage, a current of a predetermined magnitude or more may be output to the output terminal of the comparator (S130). Then, by the output current of the comparator, the first resistor provided at the output terminal of the comparator can generate heat (S140).
If the first resistor generates heat in this way, the resistance of the PTC device can be increased by the generated heat (S150). Therefore, by increasing the resistance of the PTC element, the FET provided in the charging / discharging path can be turned off (S160). That is, the FET that has been turned on can be changed to the turn-off state even if the turn-on signal is transmitted from the control unit to the FET. The FET that has been turned off can not be turned on and the turn-off state can be maintained even if a turn-on signal is transmitted from the control unit to the FET.
While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to exemplary embodiments thereof, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed exemplary embodiments.
