Abstract
Description
A hydrogen separation membrane including the separator, and a hydrogen separation apparatus including the hydrogen separation membrane.
A hydrogen separation membrane that selectively separates only hydrogen gas from a gas mixture containing hydrogen gas is used for high-purity hydrogen separation, production, and purification. Most of the world's hydrogen production uses this separation technology to produce high purity hydrogen gas. For example, hydrogen (H 2 ) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) gas are generated when methane gas is reformed. When such a mixed gas is passed through a hydrogen separation membrane, carbon dioxide can not pass through the separation membrane but passes only hydrogen gas. Hydrogen is produced. Another example is a coal gasification reaction. Gasification and WGS (water gas shift reaction) reactions generate gases such as H2 and CO2. Only hydrogen gas can pass through the separation membrane to produce high purity hydrogen .
Separated hydrogen is used for electric power generation which is a high clean energy source, or as a chemical raw material (NH 4 , Oleffin, etc.), or for oil refining. The gas remaining after the hydrogen removal is a gas composed of a high concentration of CO 2 component, and it is advantageous to selectively capture and store CO2-rich gas.
Polymers, ceramics, and metals have been developed as hydrogen separation membranes. Of these, metal hydrogen separation membranes have the advantage of being able to produce ultra-high purity hydrogen with high hydrogen selectivity. The ultra-high purity hydrogen separated through the metal hydrogen separation membrane has advantages that it can be directly used for the polymer electrolyte fuel cell.
In one embodiment, the present invention provides a separation membrane containing a pentavalent metal, which is capable of preventing the diffusion of the noble metal catalyst layer with the noble metal catalyst layer by nitriding the surface of the separation membrane, thereby preventing durability deterioration and exhibiting high hydrogen permeability.

According to another embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a hydrogen separation membrane including the separation membrane.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a hydrogen separation apparatus including the hydrogen separation membrane.
One embodiment is a separation membrane comprising a pentavalent metal, wherein the separation membrane has a nitrided layer whose surface has been nitrided.

In addition, the size and thickness of each component shown in the drawings are arbitrarily exaggerated for convenience of explanation, and thus the present invention is not necessarily limited to those shown in the drawings.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a separation membrane comprising a pentavalent metal, wherein the separation membrane has a nitrided layer whose surface has been nitrided. Specifically, the separation membrane comprises a metal layer containing vanadium (V) as a group-B metal, a nitride layer of a metal forming the metal layer formed on at least one surface of the metal layer, Containing metal catalyst layer.
The metal layer may further include a
Therefore, the separation film can be formed by nitriding the surface of the separation film to form a nitride layer of a V-Nb alloy, a nitride layer of a V-Ta alloy, or a nitride layer of a V-Nb- .
(O. Hatlevik et al., J. of Separation and Purification technology, 73, 59-64 (2010)). Pd based alloys have been extensively studied as metal hydrogen separation membranes for selectively separating only hydrogen from a gas mixture containing hydrogen. Pd-based alloys serve as catalysts for the dissociation of hydrogen molecules into hydrogen atoms on the surface, (FCC: Face-centered) crystal structure, which enables the selective dissociation of hydrogen by dissolving and diffusing hydrogen through a unit cell interstitial (O. Hatlevik et al. , J. of Separation and Purification technology, 73, 59-64 (2010)).
However, the high unit price of noble metal Pd restricts commercialization of metal hydrogen separation membranes ($ 585 / oz as of 2012), and therefore it is urgent to develop economical hydrogen separation membrane materials that can replace Pd. Recently, materials using vanadium (V), niobium (Nb), tantalum (Ta) or the like as a five-family element have been studied as materials for replacing Pd.
The five element family element has a bcc crystal structure, so that the hydrogen permeation performance of the pentagonal metal is 10 to 100 times higher than that of the pure Pd having the FCC crystal structure. However, unlike Pd, pentavalent metal has no catalytic properties for the dissociation of hydrogen molecules into hydrogen atoms. Therefore, Pd coating with a thickness of several hundred nanometers is required to permeate hydrogen.
On the other hand, it has been reported that the Pd and the P-type metal form an intermetallic phase by mutual diffusion at a high temperature, resulting in a decrease in durability. Accordingly, the present invention provides a separation membrane comprising a nitride layer of a metal as a diffusion preventing layer for providing a separation membrane composed mainly of a five-group metal and preventing mutual diffusion with a Pd-based catalyst layer formed on the surface thereof, .
The separation membrane according to the above embodiment may be formed by nitriding the surface of a separation membrane containing a
The nitride layer is formed on at least one surface of the separation membrane and may be formed on both surfaces of the separation membrane.
When the nitride layer is formed on the separation membrane to a thickness of 50 nm or less, for example, 10 to 40 nm, the hydrogen permeation characteristic of the separation membrane obtained by further laminating a metal catalyst layer having hydrogen dissociation ability on the nitride layer is 4 X 10 -8 mol / m * s * Pa 1/2 degree, obtain a sufficient hydrogen permeability properties was seen that.
However, it has been confirmed that when the thickness of the nitride layer exceeds 50 nm, the hydrogen permeation is not good.
The nitridation treatment can be performed by treating the separation membrane with a mixed gas of nitrogen (N 2) or nitrogen (N 2) and ammonia (NH 3). For example, nitrides can be formed on the surface of the separation membrane by flowing the N 2 and
The metal layer of the separator may be further alloyed by adding an additional element belonging to Group 4, Group 8 to
For example, the additional elements belonging to
If the separator comprises the additional metal in addition to the five-group metal, the nitride may form a nitride layer comprising these additional metals.
The separation layer includes a body-centered cubic (BCC) crystal structure by including a pentavalent element, so that the hydrogen atom passing through the nitride layer has a BCC crystal structure of the metal layer including the pentagonal element And can diffuse and transmit through the space between the unit lattices.
Wherein the metal catalyst layer comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of Pd, Pt, Ru, Ir, and combinations thereof, or at least one alloy selected from the group consisting of Cu, Ag, Au, Rh, .
Even if the separation membrane includes the metal catalyst layer, mutual diffusion between the metal catalyst layer and the five-metal layer is prevented by the nitride layer, so that durability does not decrease even after operation at a high temperature.

Hydrogen solubility (H / M) measured at hydrogen pressure of 0.7 MPa (corresponding to about 7 bar) and 400 ° C for the hydrogen separation membrane may be about 0.1 to about 0.5.
1: Preparation and evaluation of a separation membrane having a surface nitride layer
V - Pt or V - Ir alloy layer was subjected to heat treatment at a high temperature (400 to 1,100 ° C) for a certain time while flowing a gas with N 2:
2 is a SEM image of a cross-section of a film on which the nitride layer is formed on the V-Pt alloy surface. FIG. 3 is a graph showing the analysis of the components of the nitride layer (VN) and the V-Pt alloy layer in FIG. 2. As can be seen from Fig. 3, nitrogen (N) element was found in the nitride layer (VN) (c) while nitrogen (N) element was not found in the V-Pt alloy layer (b).
The Pd layer, which is a catalytic layer, is deposited thereon to a thickness of 150 nm to 200 nm by a sputtering method on the nitride layer having different thicknesses, The hydrogen permeability of the separator was measured by the following equation (1) while the pressure was increased to 7 bar, and the results are shown in Table 1 below.
The hydrogen permeability can be calculated by the following equation.
1][Equation 1]
In Equation (1), J is the permeation flux (Flux), L is the thickness of the separation membrane, P H2 , in Is the pressure of the feed hydrogen, and P H2 , out Represents the pressure of permeated hydrogen.
From the results shown in Table 1, it can be seen that the thickness of the nitride layer should be 50 nm or less. When the thickness of the nitride layer is in the range of 10 to 40 nm, it is considered that effective hydrogen permeability is obtained.
On the other hand, in order to observe the mutual diffusion at a high temperature of the separation layer in which the nitride layer was formed and the separation layer in which the nitride layer was not formed, the thickness of the film before and after the heat treatment of the separation film having the Pd coating layer formed on the V- The concentrations of V, Pd, Ir, and VN in the film thickness direction of the separation membrane formed with the nitride layer of 30 to 40 nm thickness were measured by SIMS analysis, 4 (a), 4 (b) and 4 (c), respectively.
As can be seen from FIG. 4 (a), in the case of the separation membrane in which the Pd catalyst layer is coated without forming the nitride layer on the surface, the concentration of each element rapidly changes at the interface between the two layers before the heat treatment As shown in FIG. 4 (b), when the separator is heat-treated at 400 ° C. for 48 hours, it can be seen that Ir, Pd, and V elements are diffused from each other at the interface between the two layers.
On the other hand, in the case of the separation layer in which the nitride layer is formed, as shown in FIG. 4 (c), it can be seen that the diffusion between the metal layer and Pd did not occur because the amount of Pd was small at the portion where the nitride layer was formed. Although a small amount of Pd is observed, it is considered that part of the element of the Pd layer enters into the nitride layer when the ion beam is applied to the Pd layer from the top surface in SIMS (secondary ion mass spectroscopy) analysis. That is, it can be seen that the metal of the vanadium (V) alloy layer and the metal of the metal catalyst layer (Pd) do not diffuse to each other by the nitride layer.
From the above results, it was found that, by nitriding the surface of the separation membrane containing a P5-family metal to form a nitride layer on the surface, mutual diffusion between the P5 metal and the catalyst layer was prevented even at high temperatures, It is possible to manufacture a separation membrane having excellent hydrogen permeability without the use of the catalyst.
