Description
The present invention relates to a secondary battery having improved safety, and more particularly, to a secondary battery having a structure capable of improving the prevention of cracking of an active material and maintaining contact state.
As the development and demand of technologies for mobile devices, electric vehicles, hybrid cars, power storage devices, and uninterruptible power supplies increases, the demand for secondary batteries as energy sources is rapidly increasing, and as a result, for batteries that can meet various needs. Many studies are in progress.
One of the major research tasks in such a secondary battery is to improve the safety of the secondary battery. In the lithium secondary battery, when the electrolyte decomposition reaction and thermal runaway occur due to heat generation due to internal short circuit, overcharge, or overdischarge, the internal pressure of the battery may rise rapidly, causing an explosion of the battery.
The heat generation of the secondary battery is caused by various causes, but also due to the cracking of the active material in the secondary battery is one cause.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS It is a figure which shows typically the structure of the general electrode assembly of a secondary battery for demonstrating the structure of a can type secondary battery.
Referring to FIG. 1, the secondary battery includes a unit cell including a positive electrode
2 (a) and 2 (b) are diagrams schematically showing a state in which an electrode tab interferes with an electrode assembly due to a state in which a unit cell used in a can type secondary battery is wound and internal stress during a charge / discharge process.
Referring to FIG. 2A, a state in which the unit cell illustrated in FIG. 1 is coiled in one direction is illustrated. The
Referring to FIG. 2B, it is shown that the
As such, when the
The present invention is conceived to solve the above problems, the purpose is to provide a secondary battery with improved safety by introducing a structure that can minimize the interference of the active material by the tab.

An electrode assembly wound in a jelly roll structure to face each other; A positive electrode tab and a negative electrode tab electrically connected to the positive electrode current collector and the negative electrode current collector, respectively, protruding out of the electrode assembly; And an insulating tape adhered to the positive electrode active material coating part or the negative electrode active material coating part (called a tab interference part) disposed above or below the connection part of the positive electrode tab or the negative electrode tab.
According to an aspect of the present invention, it is possible to prevent the phenomenon of the active material caused by the interference of the electrode tab to prevent the safety accident due to heat generation.
According to another aspect of the present invention, even if the splitting phenomenon of the active material due to the interference of the electrode tab is maintained as much as possible the contact state of the active material can reduce the degree of heat generated from the cracking site.

3 is a cross-sectional view of an
The

4A to 4C are exemplary views schematically showing a state in which the
Referring to FIG. 4A, the adhesion area of the
According to one side, the insulating
According to another aspect, the insulating
On the other hand, the shape of the insulating
According to another embodiment, the

Referring to FIG. 6, the thickness of the second
In the above-described embodiment, the thickness of the insulating
According to an aspect of the present invention, it is possible to prevent the phenomenon of the active material caused by the interference of the electrode tab to prevent the safety accident due to heat generation. In addition, even when the active material is cracked due to the interference of the electrode tab, the contact state of the active material is maintained to the maximum, thereby reducing the degree of heat generated at the cracked portion.
While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to exemplary embodiments thereof, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the details thereof and that various changes and modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art.
