Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a dye-sensitized solar cell using surface plasmon and quantum dots and a method of manufacturing the same. More specifically, the present invention relates to a dye-sensitized solar cell and a method for manufacturing the same, which can achieve improved efficiency using surface plasmon resonance of nanoparticles having a core-shell structure and absorption light emission characteristics of quantum dots.
Dye-sensitized solar cell is a kind of solar cell that chemically generates electricity by using the ability of generating electrons by absorption of dye. It is a low-cost raw material, easy manufacturing method, flexibility, light weight, transparency, etc. Due to its advantages, it is one of the next generation solar cell technologies replacing the silicon solar cell market in the future.
In general, dye-sensitized solar cells have a metal oxide (electron transport layer), dye (electron generation), electrolyte (electron supply), counter electrode (Pt, etc.) and a transparent conductive electrode on a transparent electrode deposited on a glass substrate. have. The metal oxide is composed of an n-type oxide semiconductor having a wide bandgap such as TiO 2, ZnO, and SnO 2 existing in the form of a nano porous film, and a dye of a single molecule layer is adsorbed on this surface.
태양광이 태양전지에 입사되면, 염료(Dye)의 HOMO(highest occupied molecular orbital) 준위 전자는 광에너지를 흡수하여 LUMO(lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) 준위로 여기 되며 이것은 금속산화물질(Conduction Band, CB)로 빠르게 주입되어 전도전자를 형성한다. The principle of the dye-sensitized solar cell is as follows. When sunlight enters a solar cell, the dye's highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) electrons absorb light energy and are excited at the lower unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level, which is a metal oxide (Conduction Band, CB). Is injected rapidly into the conductive electrons. At this time, the HOMO level vacancies of the dye from which the electrons are released are refilled by ions (I-) in the anode material (electrolyte) providing electrons. In other words, as solar light enters, conduction electrons accumulate toward the cathode material, and the electrolyte side becomes short of electrons, that is, it can be interpreted as accumulation of holes, and electromotive force is formed due to accumulation carriers when external load is applied. It can be seen.
Dye-sensitized solar cells are generally known to use a complex such as a ruthenium pigment as a layer that absorbs and transmits light transmitted through a conductive film. However, these dyes have a problem that it is difficult to absorb all the light of a wide wavelength.
Recently, researches for increasing the light absorption rate of dye-sensitized solar cells have been actively conducted. In one example, there is an attempt to increase the excitation of the dye by light by promoting the scattering of light in the TiO 2 film.

The transparent substrate used for the conductive

The metal oxide is preferably to increase the surface area to absorb more light quantum dots adsorbed on the surface, for example, 5 ~ 30nm in diameter, more preferably 10 ~ 30nm, even more preferably about 20 nm. When the size is less than 5 nm, metal oxides are entangled with each other, and when the size is larger than 30 nm, the surface area has a small surface area, so that the number of quantum dots adsorbed is small, thereby reducing light conversion efficiency.

The light absorption layer of the present invention includes nanoparticles having a metal core-insulator shell structure that can cause surface plasmon resonance to amplify and scatter incident sunlight and thereby increase light absorption of the dye.
Surface plasmons are collective vibrations of electrons on the surface of metal particles, which are confined to the boundaries of metals and dielectrics (such as air or semiconductors), that is, very small regions, which are the boundaries of two materials. Known as surface electromagnetic waves.
Can be used. Preferably, silver (Ag) or gold (Au), most preferably silver (Ag) can be used. It is apparent that the metals listed above are for illustrative purposes and the invention is not necessarily limited thereto.
The size (diameter) of the metal core is not particularly limited, and may be different from the material depending on the wavelength of light to be scattered. For example, the size of the metal core is 5-100 nm, preferably 5-50 nm, more preferably 5-20 nm.
The nanoparticles of the present invention have a shell that acts as an insulator or non-conductive material because the metal core may provide a recombination site for electron-holes when placed in contact with a dye or metal oxide.
The shell of nanoparticles preferably has a higher energy bandgap, for example an energy bandgap of at least about 3 eV, rather than the metals and semiconductors that make up the core. In addition, the insulator preferably has a higher melting point than the metal forming the core.
As the above-mentioned insulator, for example, silica (SiO 2 ), tin oxide (SnO 2 ), titania (TiO 2 ), zirconia (ZrO 2 ), alumina (Al 2 O 3 ), or the like can be used alone or in combination. . Preferably silica or tin oxide, more preferably silica can be used.
The thickness of the shell layer may range from 1 to 20 nm, typically from about 1 to 8 nm, more typically from 3 to 8 nm, with the numerical values being understood in an illustrative sense.
Factors that can be considered to obtain the surface plasmon resonance effect in the nanoparticles of the metal core-insulator shell structure may include the wavelength of the incident light, the refractive index of the material in contact with the metal, and the like. In addition, the thinner the shell insulating film can be expected to have a clear plasmon effect.
In the embodiment of the present invention, surface plasmon resonance occurs around the
According to the present invention, the method for producing nanoparticles of the metal core-insulator shell structure may use nanoparticle forming methods known in the art. For example, in the case of a metal core, a method of producing a metal precursor by reducing it in a liquid phase using a reducing agent can be exemplified, and an insulator shell can be formed on the metal nanoparticles (typically colloid) thus obtained. In the insulator shell forming process, a sol-gel process (eg, a hydrolysis-condensation reaction of a silica precursor such as TEOS) or spray pyrolysis may be used. Although the core-shell structured nanoparticles used in the present invention are not limited in the specific manner described above, preferably, the metal core may be prepared by a liquid reduction method, and the insulator shell may be prepared by a sol-gel process. For example, in the production of nanoparticles having an Ag core-silica shell structure, silver nitrate, silver phosphite, or the like may be used as the silver precursor, and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), aminoprop may be used as the silica precursor. Flitrimethyloxysilane (APS), sodium silicate, etc. can be used. In this case, as a reducing agent, ascorbic acid, formaldehyde, and the like, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a protective agent, polyvinylpyrrolidone which is a protic nonionic polymer, and the like may be used.
In addition, the shape of the metal core-insulator shell nanoparticles is not particularly limited, and may have various shapes such as spheres, rods, wires, pyramids, and the like. The
As such, due to the broad absorption spectrum and narrow emission spectrum of the quantum dots, they are used as donors or acceptors in biosensors or diagnostic systems. 5 shows an absorption emission spectrum of a quantum dot that can be used in the present invention. Referring to FIG. 5, the quantum dots absorb light in the ultraviolet region and emit light in the 620 nm wavelength band. Therefore, when the quantum dot absorbs light in the ultraviolet region where the dye is not easily absorbed to emit visible light, the light in the visible light region supplied to the dye increases, resulting in increased electron generation efficiency of the dye.
In another aspect, by adjusting the diameter of the quantum dots absorbs light in the ultraviolet or infrared region to emit visible light can be obtained the effect of widening the light absorption wavelength band of the dye.
The quantum dot may be used without limitation as long as it can absorb ultraviolet rays or infrared rays and emit visible light. The diameter of the quantum dot of the quantum dot light emitting layer is in the range of 1 to 5 nm. By varying the diameter of the quantum dots, it is possible to control the absorption and emission wavelength band of light. For example, the diameter of a quantum dot for blue marking is in the range of about 1.1 nm to 1.5 nm, the diameter of the quantum dot for green marking is in the range of about 2.1 nm to 2.5 nm, and the diameter of the quantum dot for red marking is about It is in the range of 2.6 nm-3.0 nm.
In addition, the shape of the quantum dot is not particularly limited, and may have various shapes such as a sphere, a rod, a wire, a pyramid, and a cube. It is preferable to have a spherical shape.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the quantum dots are a group II-VI semiconductor compound (eg, ZnS, ZnSe, ZnTe, CdS, CdSe, CdTe, HgS, HgSe, HgTe, or combinations thereof), III-V Group semiconductor compounds (eg, GaAs, InGaAs, InP, InAs, or combinations thereof) or group IV semiconductor compounds (eg, Ge or Si). More preferably, CdS, CdSe, CdTe, ZnS, ZnSe, ZnTe or CdSeTe may be used as the II-VI semiconductor compound, and InP, GaP or InAs may be used as the III-V semiconductor compound. Quantum dots having a core / shell structure of CdSe (core) / ZnS (shell) are preferred.

An exemplary synthesis process of a representative CdSe quantum dot is briefly described as Se precursors (complexes, oxides, metals, and the like; usually trioctylphosphine selenide or tributylphosphine selenide). Alkylphosphines having 5 to 20 carbon atoms, such as precursors (complexes of Cd, oxides, metals, etc.), usually dimethyl cadmium or cadmium oleate, and coordination ligands (trioctylphosphine oxide) Or injecting slowly into a hot solution containing 5 to 20 carbon atoms such as hexadecylamine (eg, about 300 ° C.) to form a CdSe nanocrystalline core. It binds to metal ions on the surface and stabilizes crystals in solution and controls growth rate. When the temperature is reached, the temperature is lowered to room temperature to stop growth.

In addition, in the case of a shell, such as a ZnS shell, which can be grown on the surface of the core according to a method known in the art, a method of forming a shell of a quantum dot is disclosed, for example, in US Patent Application No. 08 / 969,302. And the like. It is desirable to form a shell with high emission quantum efficiency and narrow size distribution by adjusting the temperature of the reaction mixture while monitoring the absorption spectrum of the core during the shell formation process.
