Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a solid oxide fuel cell using a metal foam support and a method of manufacturing the same.
The fuel cell may be classified into a low temperature fuel cell operated at a relatively low temperature (about 250 ° C. or less) and a high temperature fuel cell operated at a temperature of about 500 ° C. or more, depending on the operating temperature. In particular, high-temperature fuel cells include molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFCs) and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), which have high operating temperatures and relatively high efficiency characteristics and the advantage of utilizing waste heat from exhaust gases. Since it uses non-noble metal type (mainly Ni metal) electrode which can be used at high temperature, rather than precious metal type electrode such as), it is expected to develop into a distributed (large) power generation system using fuel cells in terms of cost and scale. Molten carbonate fuel cell uses alkaline (Li / K) carbonate solution as electrolyte and Nickel-based metal as electrode, so the system (stack) should be maintained at a constant temperature of about 650 ° C for optimal electrochemical reaction and stack life. You can protect it.
On the other hand, the operating temperature of SOFC is 500? Extremely varied to 1000 ° C. This is a solid electrolyte that can be used as doped zirconia (ZrO 2 ), ceria (CeO 2 ), perovskite-based ((LaSr) (GaMg) O 3 ), etc. There is still much room for development and electrode Nickel oxide-based oxides are mainly used in the anode, but their characteristics vary depending on the composition and composition of the electrolyte powder mixed therein. Furthermore, the perovskite compound structure (ABO 3 ), which is widely used as a cathode material of SOFC, has very different characteristics depending on the composition of A site and B site elements and the type and composition of elements doped at each site. Because of this, the development possibilities are still infinite.
As such, SOFC is composed of ceramics (sintered body), which is also referred to as ceramic fuel cells. In addition to these features, hydrocarbon-based fuels such as methane gas other than hydrogen (H 2 ) can be used from the outside. Direct Electrochemical Oxidation can be used without the need for reforming, so there are very few restrictions on the available fuel, and no need for a humidification (steam) system or other peripherals. Therefore, in advanced foreign countries, the recent solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology is not only developed as a large-scale distributed generation power source, but also developed as a residential cogeneration (Residential Power Generation, RPG), small battery charger (Battery Charger), Or research and development to SOFC system for Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for automobile is increasing rapidly.
In order to use this power generation system, the sealing efficiency by on-off heat cycle must be maintained and must be resistant to thermal shock caused by thermal change. To this end, the development of a metal support type SOFC is being pushed forward in earnest, and it can have high mechanical strength and high sealing efficiency compared to the conventional ceramic support type SOFC.
Metal-supported solid oxide fuel cell is a new concept solid oxide fuel cell that can reduce the thickness of ceramic element and increase mechanical strength and sealing efficiency by using metal as a support instead of fuel electrode of fuel cell. Separation of ceramic support-type fuel cell The metal support plays the role of plate to solve the sealing problem between the anode and the separator plate. In addition, since the metal processing process can be more easily accessed than the ceramic processing process, fuel cell performance can be improved through flow path processing, and thus manufacturing cost can be significantly reduced.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) of the United States has used a method of laminating ceramic elements on porous metal supports as a solution to the oxidation problem of metal supports on the cathode side. Recently, a process of semi-sintering a metal support using powder metallurgy, laminating ceramic elements on it, and simultaneously sintering it is used. As a metal support, a Fe / Cr alloy having a size of 100 μm is used and Al is added to adjust the sintering shrinkage. The electrolyte uses YSZ of about 10 mu m and the fuel electrode uses Ni / YSZ of about 10 mu m.
Ceres Power Ltd. of the United Kingdom has developed a metal support type solid oxide fuel cell jointly with Imperial College to secure a maximum power density of 0.4W / cm 2 at 570 ° C and also stack technology of 100W. Ceres Power uses a method of forming a gas channel through ultra-fine laser processing of thick ferritic stainless steel and coating ceramic elements on it. About 20 micrometers of CGO as an electrolyte, about 20-30 micrometers of Ni / CGO as a fuel electrode, and about 10-30 micrometers of LSCF / CGO mixed air electrode as an air electrode are used. The metal support is a Ti-Nb stabilized Cr alloy whose thickness is about 100 mu m.
The Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) of the United States, which developed and announced an innovative flat monolithic solid oxide fuel cell (monolithic SOFC) in the 1980s, sintered integrally by combining metal separators, cathode flow paths, anode flow paths, and ceramic elements into one. The method was used. Ceramic elements were made and laminated using powder metallurgy. The performance was improved by controlling the Ni content, the Ni dispersion, and the particle size of the YSZ particles as the microstructure of the anode. As a unit cell performance, the maximum output density of 0.25W / cm2 was secured at 750 ° C. 10 µm YSZ was used as the electrolyte, 200 µm Ni / YSZ was used as the anode, and 20 µm LSF was used as the cathode.

1 generally shows a process of adhering the
Therefore, the present invention provides a method for maintaining the
2 is a flow chart of the method proposed in the present invention to achieve this object. That is, before forming the
When the joining
As described above, the supplement may be removed at any time after forming the

In the case of the solid oxide fuel cell using the metal foam support incorporating the
Hereinafter, a method of mounting the
The
The
However, when bonding with a bonding material, a slurry can be used as the bonding material, but a slurry of metal and / or ceramic properties can be used as the bonding material. At this time, the slurry is preferably made of a material having a porosity and conductivity so that the fuel supplied from the anode side flow path can be moved.
The junction of the
The sintering step includes a first temperature rising step, a first isothermal step, a second temperature rising step, a second isothermal step, a conversion step, a third temperature rising step, a third isothermal step, and a temperature lowering step.
The high temperature sintering method will be described in detail with reference to [Table 1].
In the first temperature raising step, the temperature in the sintering furnace is raised from room temperature to the first temperature. The first temperature raising step is performed in an air atmosphere for 10 to 30 hours. That is, in the first temperature increase step, the temperature is slowly increased so as not to affect the surrounding powder when the additive contained in the bonding material is burned off. The first temperature may be any temperature of 400 to 500 ° C.
In the first isothermal step, the temperature in the sintering furnace is kept constant at the first temperature. The first isothermal step is carried out in an air atmosphere for 1 to 3 hours. The first isothermal step is carried out to completely burn out the binder, dispersant and plasticizer among the additives contained in the bonding material.
In the second temperature raising step, the temperature in the sintering furnace is raised from the first temperature to the second temperature. The second heating step is carried out in an air atmosphere for 2 to 5 hours. When carbon is used as a pore former among the additives contained in the bonding material, the temperature of burning carbon is about 700 to 800 ° C., so the temperature in the sintering furnace is raised to an arbitrary temperature of 800 to 1000 ° C. in the second heating step. That is, the second temperature may be any temperature of 800 ~ 1000 ℃.
In the second isothermal step, the temperature in the sintering furnace is kept constant at the second temperature. The second isothermal stage is carried out in an air atmosphere for 1 to 1.5 hours. The second isothermal step is performed to completely burn carbon when carbon is used as a pore former among the additives contained in the bonding material.
In the conversion step, the atmosphere in the sinter is converted from the air atmosphere to the reducing atmosphere. The converting step may be performed for 1 to 1.5 hours while the second temperature is maintained. The change of the atmosphere in the sintering furnace to the conversion atmosphere in the conversion step is to prevent the oxidation of metal components contained in the metal support, the bonding material, etc., including the metal foam when the temperature in the sintering furnace rises above the second temperature.
In the third temperature raising step, the temperature in the sintering furnace is raised from the second temperature to the third temperature. The third temperature raising step is performed in a reducing atmosphere for 0.5 to 2 hours. That is, the reducing atmosphere is performed quickly over a short time, in order to minimize the effect of sintering shrinkage of the bonding material. The third temperature may be any temperature of 1300-1500 ° C.
In the third isothermal step, the temperature in the sintering furnace is kept constant at the third temperature. The third isothermal step is carried out in a reducing atmosphere for 2 to 20 hours. Bonding may be performed at the bonding surface between the metal support and the bonding material including the third isothermal step metal foam, and the bonding material and the anode, thereby enhancing the adhesive force. Next, in the temperature reduction step, the temperature in the sintering furnace is lowered to the normal temperature from the third temperature. The temperature reduction step is carried out in a reducing atmosphere for 3 to 10 hours.

The unit cell elements of the
As the metal foam support used for the
Referring to FIG. 2, in the forming of the first separating
Referring to FIG. 2, in the forming of the
Referring to FIG. 2, in the forming of the
Referring to FIG. 2, in the lamination step, the first separation
In the sintering step, the
