Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE
Due to the rapid spread of mobile communication systems and wireless data communication systems and the mixing of various existing wireless broadcasting and wireless technologies, the demand for wireless means capable of operating in various frequency bands is increasing rapidly. Their demand for miniaturization is also skyrocketing.
In particular, as the interest in digital convergence has soared, the taste of users who want to purchase a single product to satisfy various needs is becoming common, and any mobile device uses vast resources using basic communication. Or the need to ensure communication connectivity is also becoming common. This is in line with the trend toward a ubiquitous environment where any device can access the network anytime, anywhere.
In addition, wireless communication methods such as Wimax, 802.11x, or LTE, which are emerging as next-generation communication methods, use multiple antennas to simultaneously improve bandwidth range and reliability by using multiple antennas to reduce the difference between wired communication and wireless communication. , A multi-dimensional signal such as a smart antenna for controlling a desired communication environment by using a plurality of antennas.
In the next-generation broadband wireless communication method, a plurality of antennas are used to increase the space occupied by the antennas, and it becomes more difficult to design and deploy antennas such as an additional antenna is required for multi-band support by the integration of the multiple communication methods. have.
The integrated arrangement of the plurality of antennas generates interference between the antennas, so that the closer the antennas are, the less the antenna performance can be satisfied due to the coupling problem.
FIG. 1 shows an example of an
The pair of dipole antennas have different induced currents according to the operation of neighboring dipoles according to the separation distance, and the coupling increases rapidly as the separation distance d decreases.
FIG. 2 is a conceptual diagram illustrating that a current induced in the
3 is a diagram illustrating characteristics between a pair of adjacently arranged dipole antennas as shown in FIG. 1, and scattering parameters S11 and S12 are shown as shown. In other words, the S12 curve representing the isolation characteristics by the adjacent antennas indicates that the gain is minimized in the use band portion of the antennas, so that mutual interference occurs severely. In general, in the case of commercial antennas, the isolation characteristics should be at least -5 dB or less, preferably about -10 dB, so that a valid antenna can be recognized as effective performance.
That is, in this case, it means that the antennas do not operate normally when the distance between the antennas is not separated and arranged.
As a result, antennas must be spaced apart from each other in order to prevent distortion due to coupling caused when the plurality of antennas are disposed in close proximity for miniaturization of the antennas, thereby increasing the size of the antennas. This leads to antenna design limitations for small communication devices.
On the other hand, in addition to the antennas for supporting a communication method using a plurality of antennas, cases in which an additional band communication is required are rapidly increasing, but an additional antenna configuration isolated to prevent coupling requires space for antenna configuration. This becomes large, which makes it difficult to implement the built-in antenna.
An object of the present invention, which is newly proposed for the adjacent arrangement of the plurality of antennas, is to form a connection line that directly connects the plurality of antennas to reduce the influence of the induced current. The added
Currents in the
That is, when a pair of antennas are directly connected through a connecting line, the electrical flow from any first antenna element is directed toward a neighboring second antenna element and bypasses the port of the second antenna, The current magnitude is the same, so that the antenna mode excited through the first antenna port is electrically separated from the second antenna mode.
FIG. 5 shows the characteristics of the antenna structure shown in FIG. 4, and scattering parameters S11 and S12 are shown as shown. That is, looking at the S12 curve representing the isolation characteristics of adjacent antennas, the gain is minimized in the use band portion of the antenna, and substantially shows sufficient isolation characteristics (-10 dB or less) in the desired frequency band of the dipole antenna. In other words, the gain of S12 representing isolation characteristics is minimized in the antenna using band, which means that the current magnitude excited to the second antenna by the operation of the first antenna is the minimum in the using band of the actual antenna. Each of these antennas operates individually with sufficient gain without interfering with each other.
FIG. 6 illustrates a modified example of a connection line applied to the antenna structure of FIG. 4, and the
FIG. 7 illustrates a case of the
In this case, the same current flow also maintains the isolation in the operating band of each antenna.
For convenience of description, each antenna connected or branched to a feed point is referred to as an 'antenna element', and a plurality of antenna elements connected to the feed point based on the feed point are referred to as an 'antenna' in an integrated sense. In the illustrated configuration, the first antenna consists of a left
The illustrated configuration is such that the
As a result, by maintaining a high degree of mutual isolation between the various antennas ignoring the geometric symmetry characteristics through a bulky and easy implementation method of the connecting
In particular, even when the distances between the plurality of feed points are arranged in close proximity within 1 / 4λ, low pattern correlation and low coupling are maintained between each feed point.
Meanwhile, as the
9 and 10 are
FIG. 11 is a configuration example of the embodiment of the present invention shown through FIG. 8, wherein the
The pair of
FIG. 12 illustrates a curve showing standing wave ratios (WSR) for each antenna of the antenna structure illustrated in FIG. 11, and a scattering variable S21. As shown in the curve showing the upper standing wave ratio, the green curve is the standing wave ratio of the
As shown, the standing wave ratio characteristics of the
In addition, the curve of the lower scattering variable S21 shows an isolation characteristic of at least -7 dB or less in the WCDMA band and an isolation characteristic of -14 dB or less in the Wimax band.
That is, when a pair of feed points are closely arranged on a single
Therefore, the Wimax MIMO antenna, which has recently increased rapidly, may be configured as a small internal antenna, and an antenna capable of supporting additional bands may be effectively implemented without increasing the size of the antenna structure.
On the other hand, when the
As shown, after configuring a pair of feed points 360, 370 on the
On the other hand, in this case, too, each antenna element must be adjusted to a desired resonant frequency by adjusting the length differently from the actual resonant frequency, and thus, the actual length is different between antenna elements having the same resonant frequency. In addition, the device widths of the
FIG. 14 illustrates a curve showing standing wave ratios (WSR) for each antenna of the
As shown, the standing wave ratio characteristics of the first antenna (320, 330, 340) has a value of 2 or less based on the center frequency of the CDMA band, 1.5 or less in the PCS band, 2.4 in the Wimax band It has the following values. In the case of the
In addition, the curve of the lower scattering variable S21 shows extremely high isolation characteristics of -18 dB or less in the CDMA band, high isolation characteristics of -14 dB or less in the PCS band, and high isolation characteristics of -12 dB or less in the Wimax band. It can be seen that it shows high isolation in all antenna use bands.
In other words, the Wimax MIMO antenna, which is rapidly growing in demand, can be built on a small carrier so that the antenna supporting the CDMA and PCS bands can be embedded at once without any increase in size. Performance degradation due to the coupling of the antenna can be prevented.
On the other hand, this configuration is not limited to an antenna structure having two feed points, and the high isolation characteristic maintained by a single connection line even in the asymmetric antenna element application described above, means that a plurality of feed points and one or more antenna elements are provided at the feed points. The same holds for implementing connected antenna structures.
However, the position of the feed point may be determined or the geometry of the connection line may be varied in order to adjust the delay time and the phase according to the length of the connection line.
FIG. 15 illustrates an example in which asymmetric antenna elements are disposed adjacent to each other so that the characteristics of the antenna elements connected to each feeding point may be completely different, so that the isolation characteristics may be improved by the connecting line. The antenna structure is shown when the Bluetooth / Wifi band is simultaneously supported and it is intended to be built with the minimum size. In the case of GPS, a GPS antenna has a high efficiency at 1.575 GHz, and has a relatively difficult characteristic that requires at least -10 dB of isolation from other adjacent antennas. Meanwhile, recently, portable terminals basically support Bluetooth / Wifi communication, so an antenna configuration for this is essential. As a result, they are now implemented as separate antennas sufficiently spaced to show the target isolation, so that the volume is large and multiple antennas must be used, resulting in high cost and management burden. Although it is applied as an external device, its performance is low due to its low isolation.
However, in the antenna structure 400 as shown, the distance between the
The illustrated
The connecting lines connecting the feed points 440 and 450 even when the feed points are arranged adjacent to each other at substantially different distances within a quarter distance of a high frequency band wavelength and antennas having completely different geometric shapes and lengths. In the illustrated configuration, the characteristics of the case in which the width of the

In addition, the curve of the lower scattering variable S21 shows an extremely high isolation characteristic of -24.4 dB at the GSP frequency, so that it can operate as an independent antenna adjacent to the adjacent antenna. The isolation characteristics show high isolation in all antenna bands.
For example, if the shortest distance between the antennas is 10 mm while using the configuration shown in FIG. 15, the efficiency is shown as shown in FIG. 17 if there is no connection line.
Here, H, which is a reference for measuring each gain and beam width, is a value in the H plane, E1 is an electric field plane, and E2 is a value in the magnetic field plane. 3D is a value considering both the V plane and the H plane.
As shown in the table, the efficiency of the GPS antenna does not exceed 60%, Bluetooth / Wifi efficiency also can be seen that does not exceed 53%.
On the other hand, when the connecting line is configured as shown in FIG. 15, the efficiency as shown in FIG. That is, even if the same feed point and antenna structure are used, the GPS efficiency is more than 70% and the efficiency in the Bluetooth / Wifi band is maintained almost 70% by simply configuring the connection line.
17 and 18 are examples of a case in which the distance between the antennas is arranged at a short distance of 10 mm. When the distance between them is wider or the length of the connection line is adjusted, the efficiency is much higher than 70%. .
Meanwhile, in the exemplary embodiments of the present invention described above, other types of elements may be further configured between the connection lines as described with reference to FIG. Helical coils, wideband planer shapes in two dimensions, chip antennas, loops or the like Various antenna types such as planar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) and the like as inductively shunted forms may also be covered.
