인공어초는 인위적으로 수중에 여러가지 모양의 구조물을 설치하여 수산동물 특히 어류와 패조류의 먹이 생물인 플랑크톤과 해조류를 증식케하여 어류와 패조류의 보호 및 먹이와 휴식공간을 제공함으로서 자원을 배양하여 어획량을 늘리기 위한 어장시설물이다. 일반적으로 인공어초는 다른생물로 부터 은폐될수 있어야하며, 인공어초의 설치는 해류의 유동에 저항할 수 있는 강도가 이루어져야 한다. 그동안의 대부분 인공어초는 콘크리트 어초가 대부분이었다. 콘크리트는 재질이 시멘트와 모래를 배합한 것으로서 해수중에서는 시간의 경과에 따라 콘크리트 구조팽창으로 인한 크랙과 박리현상이 나타난다. 이로 인해 콘크리트 강도는 급격히 저하되어 해수가 그 크랙에 따라 콘크리트 구조물 내부에 침투되어 철근이 해수중에 존재하는 염소이온에 더 빨리 노출되고, 이 황산이온이 시멘트 수화물 중에 많이 존재하는 성분인 강알카리성의 독성이 매우 강한 수산화칼슘과 반응하여 석고를 생성시킴으로서 콘크리트 표면이 연화되어 침식되게 되어 콘크리트 인공어초의 수명을 급격히 단축시킨다. 이를 개선하기 위해 굴껍질을 이용한 환경인공어초를 개발(등록제0200553)한바가 있다. 등록(제0200553)의 고안은 굴껍질이나 조개껍질을 투여하여 미세한 분말가루로 분쇄하여 만들고, 분쇄된 굴껍질에 송진을 첨가하며, 굴껍질과 송진액을 혼합할때 결착력을 높히기위해 가루소금을 굴껍질의 약1/10정도의 부피비율로 가열상태에서 잘저어주는 것으로 고안하였다. 상기 혼합된 환경인공어초 제조방법에 따라 어초 성형을 위한 인공어초 형성틀에 부어 넣어 약5분 정도 상온 건조시킨다. 굳은후 환경인공어초 형성틀을 제거하고 환경인공어초를 해수중에 투여하여 환경인공어초를 더욱 견고하게한다. 상기 제조된 환경인공어초 제조방법을 이용하여 인공어초 형성틀의 형태에 따라서 피라밋형, 사각형, 원통형, 뿔형, 육각형, 반구형 등 다양하게 제작이 가능하다. 본 고안은 환경정화와 어패류의 서식 및 번식을 위한 수산자원 조성용으로 이용되는 굴껍질을 이용한 환경인공어초에 관한 것으로서 실용신안등록(제0200553)의 개선사항이다. 인공어초의 생명은 강도가 그 중심이다. 실용신안등록(제0200553)은 강도를 높히기 위해서 가루소금을 사용하였는데 가루소금보다 강도를 높히기 위해서 황토와 짚분쇄물을 해조분말가루와 혼합하여 주면 강도가 더 높아진다. 그리고 강도를 높히기 위해서 다시마분말을 추가하도록 출원한바 있는데 (실용신안출원: 20-2008-0000202), 보다 강도를 높히기 위해서 황토와 짚분쇄물을 굴껍질 분말가루의 약 1/10 및 1/20정도의 부피비율로 추가하여 가열상태에서 잘 저어주게 되면 강도가 훨씬 높아진다. 이에 따라 굴껍질분말가루와 송진액 그리고 황토,해조분말가루 및 짚분쇄물을 섞은 혼합액을 인공어초 형성틀에 투여하여 건조시키고, 건조시킬때 표면에 해조류가 잘 부착할수 있도록 어초의 표면에 도1에서 표시하듯이 지름 약3-5cm정도 두께의 밧줄(로프)을 부착시킨다. 부착시키는 방법은 송진이 녹은후 식을때 밧줄을 부착하여 어초표면에 2-3cm정도 깊이로 들어가도록 눌러주면 단단하게 고정할수 있다.
