Abstract

A user interface device and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to use a device intuitively and conveniently with the small number of input keys by making an input key layout correspond to a physical layout of software menus. A display part(210) displays the menus(212-218) and an input part(220) includes input keys(224-228). A controller(230) generates and displays a menu screen, which has the layout visually similar to the layout of the input part, to the display part. The controller selects a menu item determined according to the layout by responding to key input of the input part. The controller generates the menu screen to agree the input key with at least one of a color, a shape, and a position of the menu item. The input keys include four input keys representing four directions. The controller differently determines the function to be executed by responding to at least one input key according to a type of the displayed menu screen.
