Abstract

A system for inputting English letters using symbols in a mobile phone is provided to enable a user, who is not familiar with English, to input English characters more conveniently and to increase English input speed by inserting additional function keys. Twenty six English letters "A" through "Z" are implemented through combinations of eight symbols. In this case, each of the combinations is created according to the shape of each English letters. For example, the English letter "M" is inputted by a combination of "I", "V", and "I". The English letter "T" is formed by a combination of "-" and "I". In the same manner, all the other English characters are also formed by combinations of eight symbols.

도[1]처럼 알파벳을 순서대로 3개씩 적어 놓아서 한번 누를 때마다 다음 순서의 값이 입력되는 방식이다. As shown in Fig. [1], three alphabets are written down in order so that each time one is pressed, the next value is input.

본 고안은 핸드폰 영문 입력 방법에 관한 것으로서, 현재 입력방법이 도면(1)과 같 이 버튼을 3번 눌러서 글자를 변환 시켜서 입력하는 방식이다 이 방법은 영어에 능숙하지 않은 사람들에게는 어디에 어떤 키가 있는지 찾아야 하는 불편한 점과 한글과 같은 자/모음의 조합으로 글이 구성되는 나라에서는 그 입력방법의 상이함으로 인하여 입력시 불편함이 있다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해서 한글과 비슷하게 알파벳을 기본 부호의 조합으로 만들 수 없을까 연구를 하게 되었다.알파벳은 모두 26개의 철자로 구성이 되어 있는데 이것은 도면[2]처럼 8개의 조합으로 만들 수가 있다. 기존 입력보다 줄여서 남는 버튼에는 영문의 대/소 변환이 가능한 기능을 더해서 입력을 더욱 빠르게 할 수 있다.
