PURPOSE: A method for processing information by using closed caption data lines and an apparatus therefor are provided to display various supplementary information and much regeneration information by selectively transmitting caption data and other information, thereby removing or reducing a front panel. CONSTITUTION: Preliminarily set setup menus are displayed(310). It is checked whether a caption menu is selected among the setup menus(320). If so, caption and regeneration information selecting menus are displayed(330). If caption data is selected, caption data regenerated from a recording medium are encoded into ASCII(American Standard Code for Information Interchange), and the encoded caption data are inserted into closed caption data lines of a video signal(350).
