Abstract

The cable reel has a drum, two flanges and two rings. The flanges are respectively coupled to both ends of the drum, each flange comprising a plurality of flange pieces disposed around the drum. Each flange piece has a fan-shaped portion, two side portions and two reinforcement portions. The side portions respectively extend outwardly from both sides of the fan-shaped portion. One of the side portions has a male coupling member and the other side has a female coupling member. The male coupling member and the female coupling member allow the flange piece to connect with the adjacent flange piece. The reinforcement portions respectively extend in directions toward each other from the end portions of the side portions. The rings are respectively fixed around the flanges. As a result, the mold manufacturing cost can be reduced because the flange piece is made of a small mold.

Cable reel with combination flange {CABLE REEL WITH COMBINATION-TYPE FLANGES}

The present invention relates to a cable reel, and more particularly to a cable reel having a combination type flange for a low manufacturing cost.

Cable reels are used to carry thick and heavy cables used for high voltage transmission. Conventional cable reels include a drum for holding a wound cable, and two, large diameter disc-shaped flanges fixed at both ends of the drum for holding the cable on the drum.

The method of manufacturing a cable reel is to form a drum and a flange, respectively, and then weld the flange to the drum. However, large diameter flanges must be manufactured using large molds, which results in high costs of mold manufacture.
Such a conventional cable reel is disclosed in the following prior art documents.

In order to achieve the above object, the cable reel according to the present invention includes a drum, two flanges and two rings. The flanges are respectively secured to both ends of the drum, each flange comprising a plurality of flange pieces disposed around the drum. Each flange piece has a fan-shaped portion, two side portions and two reinforcements. The side portions are respectively connected to both sides of the fan-shaped portion and extend outwardly from both sides of the fan-shaped portion. One of the side portions has a male coupling member and the other side has a female coupling member. Two adjacent side portions of two adjacent flange pieces are fixed to each other, and the male coupling member of the flange piece engages with the female coupling member of the adjacent flange piece. The reinforcement parts are respectively connected to the end portions of the side portions and extend in directions toward each other from the end portions of the side portions. The rings are respectively fixed around the flanges. As a result, the mold manufacturing cost can be reduced because the flange piece is manufactured using a small mold.
