Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a hardware implementation scheme for a transmission unit of an ATM AAL type 2 switch that is sensitive to delay in time and can support efficient transmission for a variable short packet length, including the recent IMT-2000 field.
Conventional AAL type 2 switches use VPI / VCI / CID simultaneous translation. However, this method is easy to translate, but the address must be managed separately in the memory pointer, and as the channel capacity increases, the capacity of the CAM increases, causing a cost increase factor. In addition, since the state value must be managed for each CID, in terms of hardware efficiency, there is a disadvantage in that a lot of resources are used.
In the present invention, it is possible to use a value generated simply by a combination circuit without using a memory to manage a read pointer or a write pointer, so that the chip area can be reduced, and state values are managed for each VPI / VCI / CID connection. Rather, it is designed to manage the state table for each VPI / VCI connection, so it can be implemented using a small number of RX state tables. In addition, when transmitting the complete CPS-PACKET decomposed to the transmitter, only the CPS-PACKET data and the corresponding index value of the transmitter need to be passed through the FIFO, which makes the overall management easy.
Traditionally, the AAL type 2 switch method is comparing the VPI / VCI / CID values simultaneously, leading to an increase in overall hardware. Not only had to manage pointers to individual VPI / VCI / CIDs, but also state management. The AAL type 2 switch receiving unit of the present invention manages using one state table per VPI / VCI, and does not manage a separate memory address for access to a partial packet memory, but a matching address and an incoming CID of the CAM 13. (17) A memory address management is possible using only information and TMP_CNT (28) information as needed. Therefore, we propose a technique that can implement AAL type 2 switch using only little hardware. In addition, if it is determined that CPS packet extraction is possible, a method for performing high-speed CPS packet decomposition is proposed by immediately delivering the packet through the FIFO 32 and providing index information 33 related to the transmitter. have.

Hereinafter, the configuration and operation of the AAL type 2 switch receiver of the present invention for achieving the above object will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
1 is a block diagram of a receiver of an AAL type 2 switch supporting the CSIX / UTOPIA protocol according to the present invention.
First, FIG. 2 (34 to 38) showing the format of the CPS packet and FIG. 3 (39 to 44) showing the form of the CPS-PDU are known in the relevant field as the standard proposed in ITU-T I.363.2. 3 will be replaced with descriptions of the symbols used in the main parts of the drawings, and the functions will be briefly explained if necessary in the process of describing FIG.
저장된 ATM 셀이 완전한 ATM 셀을 구성하면 셀 타임 슬롯의 시작에서 읽혀져 가상 채널 경로 VPI(Virtual Path Identifier:11)와 가상 경로 VCI(Virtual Channel Identifier:12)에 읽혀진다. Referring to FIG. 1, an ATM cell is first stored in a two-cell FIFO 10 through a CSIX or UTOPIA protocol. When the stored ATM cell constitutes a complete ATM cell, it is read at the start of the cell time slot and read in the virtual channel path virtual path identifier (VPI) 11 and the virtual path virtual channel identifier (VCI) 12. This value is first compared with the value stored in the CAM 13, and if CAM matching occurs, the AAL type 2 ATM cell is introduced, so the process goes to the step for performing the CPS packet decomposition process. If no CAM matching occurs, the current incoming ATM cell is discarded. When the cell time slot starts, the ptrEXT (14) pointer value, which always tracks the 48-byte payload data of the ATM cell, is initialized to 0. When the CAM matching occurs, the number of payload data bytes read from the FIFO (10) is tracked. Do this. When the ptrEXT value is 48, all payload data of the ATM cell is read. Therefore, the pointer is initialized and waited until the next cell time slot. In addition, rx_tmp_reg (15), which is used as a temporary register, is a register used to temporarily store data when the data alignment is misaligned and to reassemble and send data read in the next clock cycle. The CAM 13 stores a VPI / VCI value that is set as a call as a content addressable memory. The CAM 13 compares the VPI / VCI information of an incoming ATM cell to activate a matching signal if a match exists in the CAM. The CAM address value corresponding to the match is output. The address output from the CAM is used as an address for accessing the RX status table. The relevant information is read by combining the CID being processed. Start field (STF) 16 is the first octet of the CPS-PDU, which is a six-bit offset field (OSF) 40, which represents the start address of a new CPS packet in an ATM cell, which can determine cell loss. It consists of a 1-bit sequence number SN (41) field and a 1-bit parity 42 for supporting odd parity. Thus, the STF is an octet corresponding to the first payload of the ATM cell. Located after the STF from the incoming ATM cell is the CID 17 field, which is used to access the new CID value and the index of the transmitter. The 6-bit Length Indication (LI) 18 has payload length information of the CPS packet, and the actual payload length is defined as "LI + 1". The 5-bit CRC5 (19) field supports CRC-5. ADDRX64 20 multiplies the CAM matching address by 64 to access the memory of the partial packet, and ADDRX2 21 multiplies the CAM matching address by 2. Adding these two values (22) results in a CAM matching address multiplied by 66. Therefore, in this discovery, since only one adder 22 is required to read the base address of the partial packet memory corresponding to the VPI / VCI channel, it is easy to manage the address. The SPRADDR 23 is an address register that accesses the partial packet memory using the set address value. The partial packet memory 24 is a partial packet memory for temporarily storing when a complete CPS packet cannot be decomposed from a current ATM cell, that is, when only a part of the CPS packet is received. Each partial packet memory area requires up to 66 bytes per VPI / VCI, which supports up to 64 bytes of the maximum length of the CPS packet payload in ITU-T 363.2. Up to 67 bytes can be received. Therefore, when all 67 bytes are received, the CPS packet is transmitted to the transmitter. Therefore, the maximum byte size of each channel of the partial packet memory is 66 bytes.
One bit SEQ (25) in the RX state table indicates the sequence number of the CPS-PDU present in the next ATM cell to be introduced, and operates modulo 2. When the 2-bit SPLIT 26 field of the RX state table does not completely receive the header of the 3-octet CPS packet, but processes 48 bytes of payload of the incoming ATM cell, the next incoming ATM cell receives several octets of CPS. This field indicates whether more packet headers should be received. In addition, the 7-bit EXPCT 27 field says that the maximum payload length of the CPS packet is 64 bytes. The EXPCT field of the LI information of the CPS packet header is set and is reduced by the number of bytes received each time the CPS packet payload is received. Done. When this value is 0, it means that a complete CPS packet is received. The TMP_CNT 28 stores the number of bytes of CPS packet partial data currently stored in the partial packet memory. Therefore, if the TMP_CNT value is not 0, when the corresponding CPS residual packet can be extracted from the ATM cell, the first CMP packet is read from the partial packet memory and transferred to the FIFO 32 for transmission, and then the remaining CPS packet is input. It reads from the FIFO 10 and delivers it to the FIFO 32 for transmission to deliver the complete CPS packet to the receiver.
NEW_CID 29 refers to a CID value newly set corresponding to the VPI / VCI / CID of the current ATM cell. In the present invention, it is designed to perform the change of the CID in the receiving process. TX_BUF_NUM (30) is used to deliver the index number performed by the transmission unit when the CPS packet currently being received to the transmission unit. The transmitter can use this index to set a new VPI / VCI and update the timer value. The two-input multiplexer 31 receives CPS packet data from the input FIFO 10 and the partial packet memory 24. If there is a partial packet, data read from the partial packet memory area is first transmitted to the transmitter FIFO 32, and then CPS residual packets read from the input FIFO are transferred. However, when the partial packet memory is empty, CPS packet data read from the direct input FIFO is transferred to the output FIFO. The transmitter FIFO 32 receives the CPS packets from the input FIFO and the partial packet memory only if the receiver of the AAL Type 2 switch can transmit complete CPS packet data. The CPS packet present in the transmitter FIFO 32 becomes a CPS packet used by the transmitter of the AAL type 2 switch to generate an ATM cell. Finally, the TX_BUF_NUM FIFO 33 is used to pass the index number to be processed by the transmitter for the current incoming CPS packet. The transmission unit uses this index number to reassemble the CPS packet.
As detailed above, it was designed in accordance with ITU-T 363.2, Recommendation for AAL Type 2, so that if you have a basic understanding of CPS packet structure and CPS-PDU and have a good understanding of ITU-T 363.2, AAL Adopted as type 2 switch receiver. In particular, the number of RX state tables can be minimized. This is because the state information corresponding to the VPI / VCI / CID value is not managed, and only the VPI / VCI information is used to access the RX state table. In addition, a separate address value is not stored to read the partial packet memory or the new CID contents. Instead, the CAM matching address or the imported CID information is properly used to reduce the area of the hardware implementation.
Therefore, the present invention is expected to be able to process a short variable packet which is low speed and sensitive to latency in an effective and small area, and its application is expected in the related field in the future.
