Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic EL device, and more particularly, to form a groove in a seal line of a sealing can for encapsulating the organic EL device, and to fill the groove with an adhesive to improve adhesion characteristics between the substrate and the sealing can. It is related with the improved organic electroluminescent element.
Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) began research in the 1960s and began to be reviewed in earnest as a display after Eastmann Kodak, USA, published a paper on high brightness in 1987. Subsequently, in 1993, Japan made remarkable progress by successfully reflecting three colors of RGB simultaneously and displaying white light close to natural light. High brightness, low power consumption, and long lifetime of devices are realized, and organic EL devices are expected to be greatly expected as next-generation flat panel displays replacing liquid crystals.
Organic EL devices are also suitable for application to dot matrix displays such as mobile phones and car stereos, and moving image displays on PCs and TVs are also evaluated to be superior to LCDs.
Currently, research is being conducted using not only glass but also a polymer film (plastic) as the substrate of the organic EL device, and in the current organic substrate, the organic EL device realizes a thickness of about 2 mm. The implementation of ultra-thin displays of states becomes possible. Such an organic EL device is attracting attention as a next-generation flat panel display because of its low power consumption, easy portability in terms of size and weight, and large screen size.
On the other hand, an electroluminescent device using an electroluminescent phenomenon that emits a strong fluorescence is one of them, an inorganic electroluminescent device using an inorganic phosphor such as ZnS, Mn as the emission center and an organic field produced by dispersing an organic material or an organic material in a polymer matrix There is a light emitting element. The inorganic EL device is only suitable for the high electric field of the collection bolt and is difficult to obtain various colors. Therefore, the organic EL device emits almost all colors from blue to purple and emits light. Compared with other devices, it is suitable for low voltage, low power consumption, viewing angle and other problems.
The organic EL device is degraded by moisture and oxygen. In order to prevent this, a metal compound such as SiO 2 , MGF 2 , In 2 O 3, etc. may be applied by passivation, and a polymer film or a SUS thin film may be used. Sometimes used as encapsulation. However, this method is still in the research stage, and in practice, a method of encapsulating the device using an ultraviolet (UV) curing adhesive in a nitrogen atmosphere is used. The cross-sectional view of the organic EL device manufactured by the above-described method is shown in FIG. same.
According to FIG. 1, an encapsulation can 13 equipped with a desiccant 12 inside the panel for reducing the influence of the gas generated in the organic EL layer inside the device and moisture and oxygen from the outside during encapsulation of the OLED is used. The sealing can 13 has a planar rectangular shape and an extension part protruding at a predetermined height in one direction is formed at an end of each side.
The adhesive 14 is applied to form a seal line having a predetermined width in the cross section of the extension part, and the sealing can 13 is bonded to the substrate 10 on which the organic light emitting layer 11 is deposited to infiltrate moisture and oxygen from the outside. In order to block the space between the encapsulation can 13 and the substrate 10, a predetermined space 15 is formed.
In the above-described conventional configuration, in order to extend the life of the organic EL element, it is necessary to prevent deterioration of the element by moisture and oxygen. For this purpose, the method of encapsulating with adhesive in an inert gas atmosphere is used, but in this case, the seal line width of the adhesive must be exactly matched to the seal, and secondly, the can and the organic light emitting element are deposited. In order to prevent the adhesive from being damaged by the remaining gas when the substrate is bonded, there is a problem in that the internal gas residual pressure must be minimized before the sealing can and the substrate are completely bonded.
The first problem described above is required to reduce the actual width and increase the active area since the adhesive spreads to the electrode line and the active area when the adhesive is applied to the bag can and then bonded to the substrate, and the second problem is that the panel is enlarged in size. This is caused by the increase in the inner space of the bag. Specifically, the adhesive is currently applied as a closed line on the bottom of the outer surface of the can with a height of 500 μm or less, and the inner gas trapped in the seal line barrier after the sealing can and the organic EL substrate are bonded is operated inside the panel. In addition to the increase of the panel temperature, pressure is applied to the adhesive part, which not only reduces the sealing property drastically, but also causes the problem of increasing the penetration protection by external moisture and oxygen by increasing the inner space of the bag.
Accordingly, the present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned conventional problems, by forming a groove of a certain line in the seal portion formed on the surface in contact with the substrate in the sealing can, by putting an adhesive inside the groove It is an object of the present invention to provide an organic EL device in which the sealing can and the substrate are bonded together to precisely control the seal width and to prevent the adhesive from being exposed to the durable gas, thereby preventing the deterioration of the sealing property.

Hereinafter, with reference to the accompanying drawings will be described an embodiment of the present invention in more detail.
2 and 3 are cross-sectional views of an organic EL device according to an embodiment of the present invention.
According to FIG. 2, the end surface of the extension part which protrudes by the predetermined height in the edge part of each surface of the sealing can 23 of an organic electroluminescent element becomes the adhesive surface 26 which adhere | attaches with the board | substrate 20, and the extension part is the board | substrate 20 And when the sealing can 23 is bonded to have a predetermined height to ensure a predetermined space.
A square groove 25 having a predetermined depth is formed in the center portion of the adhesive surface 26, and the sealing can 23 and the substrate 20 are bonded to each other by filling the adhesive groove 24 in the square groove 25.
The desiccant 22 is attached to the entire surface of the central portion of the sealing can 23 except for the surface on which the extension is formed, so that the organic light emitting layer 21 effectively removes gas and moisture and oxygen from the outside.
Here, the substrate 20 may be made of plastic or film, which is made of glass or a material that can be bent.
According to FIG. 3, a plurality of square grooves 35 having a predetermined depth are formed on the adhesive surface 36 corresponding to the end surface of the extension portion formed in one direction at the end of each surface of the sealing can 33, and in the square groove 35. An adhesive 34 may be inserted to bond the encapsulation can 33 to the substrate 30.
In the present invention, the shape of the grooves formed on the adhesive surfaces 26 and 36 of the bag cans 23 and 33 is illustrated as a quadrangle, but the deformation functions as a semicircle or a triangle.

According to FIG. 4, in the organic EL device, electrons and holes are injected from the outside, and recombination energy therebetween has a direct current operation mechanism to excite the emission center. Referring to this excitation process step by step, holes in the anode electrode 41 are shown. 48 is injected into the light emitting layer 44 through the hole injection layer 42 and the hole transport layer 43, and electrons 49 form the electron injection layer 46 and the electron transport layer 45 at the cathode electrode 47. It is injected through and recombined to generate excitons, and the excitation and movement of the excitons proceed to emit light.
According to the present invention as described above, when encapsulating the panel of the organic EL device, a groove is formed in the contact surface where the can is in contact with the substrate without exposing the adhesive used to bond the can to the substrate on which the organic light emitting layer is deposited.
