Abstract

PURPOSE: A piston is provided to achieve improved cooling performance of piston by forming an oil gallery in the vicinity of the combustion chamber, while improving fluidity of oil. CONSTITUTION: A piston(1) comprises a groove combustion chamber(2) formed at the top surface of the piston; an iron insert ring(3) inserted into a piston top ring groove; an oil gallery(4) for cooling the peripheral area around the combustion chamber; an oil inlet channel(6) and an oil outlet channel(7) which are communicated to the oil gallery. The oil gallery is constituted by a hollow steel ring(5), and arranged to contact the iron insert ring inserted into the piston top ring groove. The oil inlet channel and the oil outlet channel are formed of steel pipes(8,9). The iron insert ring and the steel ring forming the oil gallery are welded with each other.
