Description
The present invention seals the electrode assembly using an exterior material including an oxidation permeable membrane and a resin layer formed with a plurality of pores that selectively transmit only oxygen, thereby increasing the oxygen permeability while blocking the inflow of moisture or gas in the atmosphere, thereby improving the lifespan characteristics of the battery. This is about an improved pouch-type metal-air battery.
A lithium-air battery is a battery that replaces the positive electrode active material of a lithium-ion secondary battery with air. Its energy density is 10 times higher than that of a lithium-ion secondary battery using existing positive electrode active materials, and it uses oxygen contained in the air as a raw material for reduction reaction during discharge. This has the advantage of significantly reducing the weight of the positive electrode and the entire battery.
In the case of these lithium-air batteries, they are formed in pouch-type, cylindrical, coin-type, etc., and have holes drilled only in the anode part to allow air to pass through. Among these, pouch-type lithium-air batteries can be manufactured in various forms and have the advantage of realizing high energy density per mass.
However, pouch-type lithium-air batteries are manufactured by creating an oxygen inlet hole in the anode of the pouch, but there is a problem that electrolyte leaks or volatilizes from the hole, and compression molding is difficult due to the hole. Due to this, there is a problem of low energy density and difficulty in expanding to a large area. Additionally, in addition to the inflow of oxygen, there is a problem that gases such as moisture, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen from the atmosphere flow in, causing a side reaction of battery deterioration. Accordingly, it is difficult to operate a lithium air battery in the atmosphere, so it is inconvenient to install a dehumidification system or pure oxygen gas cylinder.
Previously, Korean Patent Publication No. 2016-0131606 discloses a lithium-air battery comprising nickel foam, an air electrode, a separator, and a cathode, and having the structure wrapped around the case with a plurality of ports through which air passes only on one side of the nickel foam. . However, in lithium-air batteries with this structure, the portion exposed to the actual air is very limited, making it difficult to utilize the performance of the positive electrode active material to the maximum. Electrolyte volatilization occurs as an open system, and it is difficult to effectively prevent the inflow of moisture or carbon dioxide. There is.

The first

상기 산소투과도는 OTR(Oxygen Transmision Rate) 측정기(Tester)를 이용하여 측정하였다. The oxygen permeability, moisture permeability, and charge/discharge life characteristics of the metal-air batteries manufactured in Examples 1 to 2 and Comparative Examples 1 to 4 were evaluated. The oxygen permeability was measured using an OTR (Oxygen Transmision Rate) tester. The moisture permeability was measured using WVTR (Water Vapor Transmittance Rate). The charge/discharge evaluation was performed under the conditions of a voltage range of 2.0 to 4.6 V, a capacity of 5 mAh/cm 2 , and a current density of 0.5 mA/cm 2 .
The results are shown in Table 1 below and Figures 7 to 9. 7 and 8 are graphs showing the charge/discharge characteristics of the pouch-type metal-air battery according to Comparative Examples 2 and 4. Figure 9 is a graph showing the charge and discharge characteristics of the pouch-type metal-air battery according to Example 2.
According to the results in Table 1 and Figures 7 to 9, in the case of Comparative Example 1, because an aluminum material with no pores formed in the gas diffusion layer was used as the exterior material, oxygen did not enter at all, so no electrochemical reaction occurred, and the battery It was impossible to drive.
In the case of Comparative Example 2, an exterior material made of aluminum with a plurality of pores formed in a row at one edge of the gas diffusion layer was used, so a large amount of oxygen flowed in through the pores, but the electrolyte was rapidly volatilized. In addition, it was confirmed that the pore size was too large, so moisture and carbon dioxide also flowed in, causing battery deterioration due to side reactions and poor lifespan characteristics.
In the case of Comparative Example 3, as a result of using PET with no pores as the oxygen
In the case of Comparative Example 4, the oxygen permeability was high by using PET with a pore size of 30 ㎛ as the oxygen
On the other hand, in Example 1, PET with a pore size of 10 ㎛ was used as the oxygen
In the case of Example 2, by using hydrophobic PET with a pore size of 20 ㎛ as the oxygen
