Description
The present invention relates to a composition for pelletizing carbon black for safer storage and transportation of carbon black.
Organic polymer waste, such as waste tires and waste plastic, is generated as a large amount of waste domestically and internationally. In particular, approximately 1.5 billion waste tires are produced worldwide every year, equivalent to approximately 15 million tons in weight. In the case of Korea, approximately 380,000 tons of fetire was produced in 2021. The treatment of these wastes is divided into landfill, incineration, and recycling. Landfill is a problem that requires continuous development of suitable landfills because waste tires and waste plastics do not rot easily. As the issue of soil pollution becomes more important, landfill is one of the waste disposal methods. The proportion is decreasing. Meanwhile, incineration has the advantage of being able to minimize the volume in a short period of time and using the heat generated during incineration. However, as emissions of air pollutants such as dioxins generated during incineration become a problem, the development of alternative technologies is required.
Therefore, recycling of waste tires is expected to be another alternative that can reduce the amount of waste generated and solve environmental pollution problems that may occur due to landfilling or incineration.
The most widely used method of recycling waste tires is pyrolysis, which thermally decomposes organic waste at a temperature of 500 to 800 degrees Celsius in anoxic conditions.

Figure 1 is a diagram showing a carbon black production system through thermal decomposition of waste tires according to the present invention. Referring to Figure 1, the carbon black production system through pyrolysis of waste tires according to the present invention includes a supply unit 10, a pyrolysis unit 20, an exhaust unit 30, a condensation unit 40, a sorting unit 50, and a storage unit. It may include a unit 60, a grinding unit 70, a forming unit 80, a drying and cooling unit 90, and a packaging unit 100.
The supply unit 10 may be a part where waste tires are input. The supply unit 10 may transport the input waste tires through a drag conveyor inside the supply unit 10 and store them in a storage silo. Waste tires stored in the storage silo may be discharged through a discharge conveyor belt and headed to the pyrolysis unit 20.
The pyrolysis unit 20 may be a part that thermally decomposes waste tires supplied from the supply unit 10. The pyrolysis unit 20 allows high-temperature gas generated from the hot stove to flow into the reactor to heat the waste tire to a high temperature, for example, 300 to 800°C. The reactor is airtight from the outside and operates in an oxygen-free or diluted oxygen atmosphere, and nitrogen may be supplied to one end of the reactor to maintain this. Heated waste tires can decompose into gas, oil, char, and iron.
Flue gas generated by combustion in the pyrolysis unit 20 may be sent to the exhaust unit 30. The exhaust unit 30 may include a compression unit that compresses the transported gas, a denitrification unit that removes nitrogen from the gas, and a desulfurization unit that removes sulfur from the gas. Exhaust gases discharged through these parts may be safer from air pollution.
Oil vapor decomposed in the thermal decomposition unit 20 may be sent to the condensation unit 40. The condensation unit 40 is positioned horizontally with the pyrolysis unit 20 and may be located close to the pyrolysis unit 20. The condensing unit 40 can transport oil generated by condensing oil vapor through an oil pump and store it in an oil storage tank. Non-condensable gas that has not been condensed can be transferred and stored in the gas tank through a transfer fan. Afterwards, the non-condensable gas can be transferred to the hot stove of the pyrolysis unit 20 and used for combustion. Therefore, recycling of this non-condensable gas reduces process costs and makes the process environmentally friendly.
The char and iron decomposed in the pyrolysis unit 20 may be sent to the sorting unit 50 through one or more conveyors. The sorting unit 50 may be a part that separates foreign substances containing iron from char. For example, the sorting unit 50 may include a primary sorter that vibrates the char to separate foreign substances, and a secondary sorter that uses magnetic force to separate iron from the char transferred from the primary sorter.
Char may be sent from the sorting unit 50 to the storage unit 60 via one or more conveyors. The storage unit 60 may be a part where char is stored. In this embodiment, the storage unit 60 includes a silo as an example, but it is not limited thereto.
Char may be sent from the storage unit 60 to the grinding unit 70. The pulverizing unit 70 may crush the transported char into fine particles or fine powder to form carbon black.
The formed carbon black can be transferred from the pulverizing unit 70 to the forming unit 80. In the molding unit 80, carbon black can be molded into a sphere using water as a binder.
The molding unit 80 may include a pelletizer that pelletizes carbon black. The pelletizer of the molding unit 80 may contain other materials in addition to carbon black so as to aggregate the carbon black into a spherical shape.
A composition for pelletizing existing carbon black may include more than 95% by weight of carbon black, less than 5% by weight of ash, and inorganic additives. In this case, the carbon black does not clump together well with the composition and water alone, so it may not be easy to pelletize it. Therefore, in the case of existing compositions for pelletizing carbon black, there was a problem that other substances such as starch must be included during pelletizing.
In contrast, the composition for pelletizing carbon black according to the present invention may include 75 to 85% by weight of carbon black, 15 to 25% by weight of ash, and inorganic additives. For example, the inorganic additive may include zinc oxide (ZnO), magnesium oxide (MgO), silica (SiO 2 ), zinc sulfide (ZnS), calcium carbonate (CaCo 3 ), etc. The composition for pelletizing carbon black according to the present invention may contain significantly more ash and inorganic additives compared to the composition for pelletizing existing carbon black. Therefore, it can aggregate much better than existing compositions for pelletizing carbon black.
Meanwhile, the composition for pelletizing carbon black according to the present invention can be well agglomerated even when mixed only with water without other additives such as starch. Rather, the composition for pelletizing carbon black according to the present invention may have a pellet hardness of 80 to 100 even when mixed only with water. In this case, there is an advantage that pelletized carbon black does not break when stored and transported. However, there is a disadvantage that customers cannot easily break the pelletized carbon black in order to use it.
Therefore, a cationic surfactant may be added to the composition for pelletizing carbon black according to the present invention along with water during pelletizing. Cationic surfactants can play a role in preventing the aggregation of carbon black. Cationic surfactants may include amido imidazolinium, stearyl amine acetate, lauryl trimethyl ammonium chloride, diamido alkoxylate quaternary ammonium, and diester alkoxylate quaternary ammonium. The amount of water added may be 40 to 50 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of carbon black, and the amount of cationic surfactant added may be 0.1 to 1 part by weight based on 100 parts by weight of carbon black. Even if such a small amount of cationic surfactant is added, the pellet hardness can be sufficiently reduced to 20 to 50.
The composition for pelletizing carbon black according to the present invention is highly agglomerated due to the amount of inorganic additives, but may be less agglomerated due to the addition of a cationic surfactant during pelletizing. Therefore, pelletized carbon black does not break easily during storage and transportation, and has the advantage of being easily broken by a mixer when used by customers.
The carbon black pelletized in the forming unit 80 may be sent to the drying and cooling unit 90 through a conveyor belt to be dried and cooled. For example, pelletized carbon black may first be dried through heat in a dryer in the drying and cooling unit 90 and then cooled in a cooler. When the pelletized carbon black is dried in a dryer, the water added to the carbon black composition can be removed. For example, 40 to 50 parts by weight of water added to 100 parts by weight of carbon black may be dried, leaving less than 1 part by weight.
Carbon black may be sent from the drying and cooling unit 90 to the packaging unit 100 through a conveyor belt. The packaging unit can package pelletized carbon black in a preset amount. For example, the packaging unit 100 may include a tonbag packaging unit and a small packaging unit. In the drying and cooling section 90, the carbon black is connected to a two-way damper in the packaging section 100, and the carbon black can be selectively transferred to the toned bag packaging section and the small packaging section through the two-way damper.
With the above-described configuration, the process of manufacturing carbon black through the pyrolysis process of waste tires is carried out in a continuous and sequential form through a series of processes in an optimal order, and as a result, the quality of pelletized carbon black is very high. It can be in good condition.
