Abstract
According to the present invention, a first PCB and a second PCB having a double-layer structure, and a plurality of LEDs disposed thereon, and a light refractive adjustment lens composed of a first liquid and a second liquid corresponding to the plurality of LEDs are disposed.
Accordingly, the liquid crystal display device can change the size of the light emitting block area of the backlight unit according to the image content through the light refraction adjusting lens through the light emitted from the plurality of LEDs, so that the backlight unit 220 emits light during local dimming operation. It is possible to fundamentally prevent a halo phenomenon caused by a discrepancy between the size of a block and the size of actual image content.
Description
The present invention relates to a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device including the same, and more particularly, to a backlight unit with improved halo phenomenon and a liquid crystal display device including the same.
Recently, with the development of information technology and mobile communication technology, display devices capable of visually displaying information have been developed. It is classified as a non-emissive display that can
비발광형 디스플레이로는 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display)장치를 예로 들 수 있다. A liquid crystal display (LCD) device may be exemplified as a non-emissive display.
Here, since the LCD device does not have a self-light emitting element, a separate light source is required. Accordingly, a backlight unit equipped with a light source is provided on the rear surface to emit light toward the front surface of the liquid crystal panel, and through this, an identifiable image is realized.
The backlight unit uses a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL), an External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp, and a Light Emitting Diode (LED, hereinafter referred to as LED) as light sources.
Among them, in particular, the LED is a trend that is widely used as a light source for display by combining features such as small size, low power consumption, and high reliability.
On the other hand, general backlight units are divided into direct type and edge type according to the position of the light source. The direct type backlight unit arranges the light source under the liquid crystal panel to directly direct the light emitted from the light source. The edge-type backlight unit arranges a light guide plate under the liquid crystal panel, and arranges a light source on at least one side of the light guide plate, so that the light emitted from the light source is transmitted using refraction and reflection in the light guide plate. It is a method of indirectly supplying liquid crystal panels.
Recently, in a state where research on large-area liquid crystal display devices is being actively conducted due to consumer demand, a direct type is more suitable for a large-area liquid crystal display device than an edge type.
1 is a cross-sectional view of a liquid crystal display device having a conventional direct-type backlight unit, FIG. 2a is a diagram schematically showing how light is emitted from the LED of FIG. 1, and FIG. It is a diagram schematically showing the size inconsistency, and FIG. 2c is a photograph showing a halo phenomenon occurring in a conventional liquid crystal display device.
As shown in FIG. 1, a conventional liquid crystal display device includes a
Here, the
At this time, light emitted from two or three
The
Recently, research on a local dimming function that adjusts the brightness of each block according to video content in the direct type backlight unit has been actively conducted in order to realize high quality.
That is, the
However, as shown in FIG. 2A, even when the
Accordingly, as shown in FIG. 2B , since the size (A) of the actual image content continuously changes, the size (B) of the light emitting block of the backlight unit and the size (A) of the actual image content cannot match.
That is, in the case of video content with a dark screen as the background, the size (A) of the video content and the size (B) of the light emitting block do not match, so that the area to be displayed is unintentionally brightly displayed.
Accordingly, as shown in FIG. 2C , a halo phenomenon occurs, and thus, there is a problem in that the immersion of the image is deteriorated.
An object of the present invention is to provide a backlight unit that efficiently improves the backlight phenomenon and a liquid crystal display device including the same.

The
백라이트 유닛은(220)은 다수의 LED(도5b의 221c)가 실장된 PCB(도5b의 221a, 221b)를 포함한다. The
Also, the
The
The
For example, by analyzing the image signal in units of frames, the representative luminance values of the display blocks DB corresponding to each of the light emitting blocks LB and red (R), green (G), and blue (B) values are obtained. The center position of the video signal of the part except for the part where the pixels are 0 at the same time is extracted. That is, the representative luminance value of each light emitting block LB and the center position of the image signal are extracted by analyzing the image signal of the corresponding display block DB.
The
That is, the
The
The
For example, the compensated dimming level can be calculated by applying a linear space algorithm or a non-linear space algorithm. The linear space algorithm is a method of calculating a compensated dimming level of the light emitting block LB using an average dimming level of peripheral light emitting blocks LB located around the light emitting block LB as a center. The nonlinear space algorithm is a method of calculating a dimming compensation level of the light emitting block LB by applying a distance weight to the dimming levels of the peripheral light emitting blocks LB.
The
The
Here, the driving signals respectively correspond to the light emitting blocks LB, and accordingly, the light emitting blocks LB are respectively driven with brightness corresponding to the luminance of the image signal and the center coordinate.
That is, the light emitting driving
