Description
The present invention relates to a secondary battery, and more particularly, to a secondary battery that minimizes deformation of the periphery of a safety vent even when a CID filter is ruptured due to a crimping process or an increase in internal pressure of a battery can.
In general, types of secondary batteries include nickel cadmium batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, lithium ion batteries, and lithium ion polymer batteries. These secondary batteries are used not only for small products such as digital cameras, P-DVDs, MP3Ps, mobile phones, PDAs, portable game devices, power tools, and E-bikes, but also for large products that require high power, such as electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, and surplus power generation. It is applied and used to a power storage device for storing power or renewable energy and a power storage device for backup.
Secondary batteries are classified into a pouch type and a can type according to the material of a case accommodating the electrode assembly. In the pouch type, an electrode assembly is accommodated in a pouch made of a soft polymer material. And, the can type accommodates the electrode assembly in a case made of a material such as metal or plastic.
Such can-type secondary batteries are classified according to the shape of the battery case into a prismatic type in which the case has a polygonal shape, a cylinder type in which the case has a cylindrical shape, and the like.
Meanwhile, gas may be generated in the secondary battery due to an internal short circuit caused by an external impact, overcharging, overdischarging, and the like. Alternatively, when stored or stored at a high temperature, the high temperature rapidly promotes an electrochemical reaction between the electrolyte and the electrode active material, and gas may be generated.
At this time, the generated gas increases the internal pressure of the secondary battery, causing problems such as weakening of the bonding force between parts, damage to the case of the secondary battery, early operation of the protection circuit, deformation of the electrode, internal short circuit, and explosion.

In general, as shown in FIG. 1, the cylindrical

On the other hand, if gas is generated from the side of the

An object to be solved by the present invention is to provide a safety vent and cap assembly that minimizes deformation of the periphery even when a CID filter is ruptured due to a crimping process or an increase in internal pressure of a battery can.

4 is a partial cross-sectional view of a cylindrical
As shown in FIG. 4 , the cylindrical
In order to manufacture such a
The battery can 12 is made of a lightweight conductive metal material such as aluminum, nickel, stainless steel, or an alloy thereof, and may have an open top portion and a sealed bottom portion opposite thereto. The electrolyte solution together with the
A center pin (not shown) is inserted into the center of the battery can 12 to prevent the
The electrolyte solution filled in the battery can 12 is for moving lithium ions generated by the electrochemical reaction of the electrode during charging and discharging of the
The
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the
The thickness of the portion of the
따라서, 안전 소자(112)의 두께는 이러한 점들을 복합적으로 고려하여 상기 두께 범위 내에서 적절히 결정될 수 있다.The safety element (PTC element, Positive Temperature Coefficient element, 112) blocks current due to increased battery resistance when the temperature inside the battery rises. That is, the
The outer side of the
A current interrupt device (CID) is positioned below the
Therefore, in a normal state, the current generated from the
When used as a power source for a power tool such as an electric drill, the
As described above, the
The crimping
The upper end of the crimping
The crimping
5 is an enlarged view showing in detail the
As described above, the
Among the

On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 6 to complete the manufacture of the
However, as described above, if the pressure of the pressing member is excessively high, the crimping
However, according to one embodiment of the present invention, since the ratio occupied by the

Meanwhile, as described above, gas may be generated inside the
Therefore, when the internal pressure of the battery can 12 increases and exceeds a specific pressure, the
At this time, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the crimping
When the internal pressure of the battery can 12 increases and exceeds a specific pressure, and the
However, according to one embodiment of the present invention, since one end of the crimping

Specifically, as shown in FIGS. 4 to 6 , the connecting
According to one embodiment of the present invention, as shown in FIG. 3 , when the first bent part is primarily bent upward, it is preferably bent substantially vertically from the

According to one embodiment of the present invention, since the length ratio of the
According to another embodiment of the present invention, a condition for the relationship between the diameter of the battery can 12a and the

As such, according to embodiments of the present invention, even if the crimping

A cap assembly was manufactured in which the top opening of a battery can having a diameter of 21 mm was sealed, the first and second lengths of both the periphery of the safety vent were 2.6 mm, and the length of the seating portion was 1.25 mm. According to the manufacturing example, the ratio of the length occupied by the seating part to the peripheral part is 48.08%, which is greater than 40%, and the ratio of the sum of the first length and the second length to the diameter of the battery can is 24.76%, which is less than 30%. Therefore, all the conditions of the present invention are satisfied.

A cap assembly was manufactured under the same conditions as in Manufacturing Example, except that both the first and second lengths of the periphery of the safety vent were 4.1 mm. According to the comparative example, the ratio of the length occupied by the seating portion to the peripheral portion is 30.49%, which is less than 40%, and the ratio of the sum of the first length and the second length to the diameter of the battery can is 39.05%, which is greater than 30%. Therefore, none of the conditions of the present invention are satisfied.
Experiment result
As shown in Table 1, when the cap assembly was assembled to the battery can and the crimping part was crimped, the downward deformation of the inside of the safety vent periphery of the manufacturing example was measured to be 0.002 mm. On the other hand, in the cap assembly of Comparative Example, the amount of downward deformation of the inside of the safety vent periphery was measured as 0.02 mm. Based on this, calculating the ratio of the measured downward deformation amount to the length of the peripheral portion, the production example was 0.077%, and the comparative example was 0.48%. That is, in the cap assembly according to the embodiment of the present invention, the ratio of the amount of downward deformation of the inside of the peripheral portion to the length of the peripheral portion is smaller than 0.1%. Therefore, according to the embodiment of the present invention, it was confirmed that the amount of downward deformation of the inner side of the peripheral portion was improved.
In addition, when the CID filter was ruptured after the cap assembly was assembled to the battery can, the upward deformation of the inside of the safety vent periphery of the cap assembly of the manufacturing example was measured as 0.016 mm. On the other hand, in the cap assembly of Comparative Example, the amount of upward deformation of the inside of the safety vent periphery was measured as 0.053 mm. Based on this, calculating the ratio of the measured upward deformation amount to the length of the peripheral portion, the production example was 0.62%, and the comparative example was 1.29%. That is, in the cap assembly according to the embodiment of the present invention, the ratio of the measured upward deformation amount to the length of the peripheral portion is smaller than 1%. Therefore, according to the embodiment of the present invention, it was confirmed that the amount of upward deformation of the inner side of the peripheral portion was improved.
Figure 9 is a box plot comparing the burst pressure of the CID filter before and after the cap assembly of Comparative Example is assembled to the battery can and after being assembled and crimped to the battery can, Figure 10 is a battery before and after the cap assembly of Manufacturing Example is assembled to the battery can This is a box plot comparing burst pressure of CID filters after being assembled into a can and crimped.
As described above, when the crimping portion is crimped, the inside of the periphery of the safety vent is deformed downward. Accordingly, as the shape of the safety vent is deformed, the rupture pressure of the CID filter decreases, so that the secondary battery cannot withstand the internal pressure for a long time.
That is, as shown in FIG. 9, before the cap assembly of the comparative example was assembled to the battery can, the average burst pressure of the CID filter was 17.02 kgf/cm 2 , but the cap assembly was assembled to the battery can and the crimping portion was crimped. After, the average burst pressure of the CID filter was 15.23 kgf/cm 2 . Therefore, the decreasing ratio of the burst pressure of the CID filter before the cap assembly was assembled to the battery can and after being assembled to the battery can and crimped was 10.52%.
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 10, before the cap assembly of the manufacturing example was assembled to the battery can, the average burst pressure of the CID filter was 18.32 kgf/cm 2 , but the cap assembly was assembled to the battery can and the crimping part was crimped. After that, the average burst pressure of the CID filter was 18.26 kgf/cm 2 . Accordingly, the rate of decrease of the burst pressure of the CID filter after the cap assembly was assembled to the battery can and crimped was 0.33% compared to before the cap assembly was assembled to the battery can.
That is, in the cap assembly according to the embodiment of the present invention, the reduction rate of the bursting pressure of the CID filter after being assembled to the battery can and crimped is smaller than 1% compared to before being assembled to the battery can. Therefore, according to an embodiment of the present invention, it was confirmed that the rate at which the rupture pressure of the CID filter decreases after the cap assembly is assembled to the battery can and crimped is improved.
