The present invention relates to a backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device, and to a backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device capable of resolving occurrence of luminance unevenness in a liquid crystal display device having a narrow bezel.
Recently, along with the development of information technology and mobile communication technology, the development of a display device capable of visually displaying information has been made. It is classified as a non-light-emitting display that can do this.
A liquid crystal display (LCD) may be exemplified as a non-emission type display, which is a device that does not have a self-luminous element.
Accordingly, the LCD, which is a non-emission type display, requires a separate light source. A backlight unit having a light source is provided on the rear surface to irradiate light toward the front of the LCD, and only through this, an identifiable image is realized.
The backlight unit uses a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL), an External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp, and a Light Emitting Diode (LED, hereinafter referred to as LED) as a light source.
Among them, in particular, LED is a trend that has been widely used as a light source for display because it has features such as small size, low power consumption, and high reliability.
On the other hand, a general backlight unit is divided into a side light type and a direct light type according to the arrangement structure of the lamp. In the side light type, one or a pair of lamps are disposed on one side of the light guide plate. It has a structure or has a structure in which two or two pairs of lamps are arranged on both sides of the light guide plate, and the direct light type has a structure in which several lamps are arranged under the optical sheet.
In recent years, in a state where research on a large-area liquid crystal display device has been actively conducted in response to consumer demand, a direct light type is more suitable for a large-area liquid crystal display device than a side light type.
1 is a cross-sectional view of a direct light type liquid crystal display device using a general LED as a light source.
As shown, a general liquid crystal display device includes a
Here, the
That is, the
On the other hand, in such a direct light type liquid crystal display device, the light emitted from two to three
That is, the deviation of the light supplied to the edge region and the central region of the
FIG. 2 is an experimental result showing the distribution of light provided to the liquid crystal panel including the direct light type backlight unit of FIG. 1 .
In this case, the darker the red color of the image, the more light is provided, which means that the luminance is high.
Therefore, as shown, it can be seen that the S region has less light reaching from the light source (=LED 28) compared to the surrounding region, and when an image is displayed through the
As described above, in the conventional direct light type liquid crystal display device, there is a problem in that a dark region is generated in the edge region of the
In particular, in recent years, the importance of a liquid crystal display having a narrow bezel is increasing. In the conventional liquid crystal display, all of the edge region where low-brightness light is provided through the bezel could be covered, but the bezel is narrow. Accordingly, since it is impossible to cover all of the edge region, there is a problem that light non-uniformity occurs in the edge region of the
This causes a problem of deterioration of display quality of the liquid crystal display device.
The present invention is to solve the above problems, and a first object is to provide an image having uniform luminance in the entire area of the liquid crystal panel by solving the light non-uniformity occurring in the edge area of the liquid crystal panel.
Through this, a second object is to prevent a problem of deterioration of display quality due to non-uniform luminance of the liquid crystal display device.
In addition, it is a third object to provide a liquid crystal display device having a light weight, a thin shape, and a narrow bezel.

At this time, the first
The first and second diffusion support layers 321 and 323 are also polycarbonate-based, polysulfone-based, polyacrylate-based, and polystyrene-based that can transmit light. , a polyvinyl chloride series, a polyvinyl alcohol series, a poly norbornene series, a polyester series, and the like.
The first and second diffusion support layers 321 and 323 may be formed to have a thin thickness, for example, 10 μm to 250 μm in response to the reduction in the thickness of the backlight unit (120 in FIG. 4 ). And by making the second diffusion support layers 321 and 323 to have a thickness of 10 μm or more, the backlight unit ( 120 in FIG. 4 ) can be made as thin as possible within the limit that the mechanical properties and heat resistance of the optical film are not deteriorated.
In addition, by making the first and second diffusion support layers 321 and 323 to have a thickness of 250 μm or less, the backlight unit (120 in FIG. 4 ) can be thinned and mechanical properties and heat resistance of the optical film can be maximized. .
In addition, the diffusion layer 327 is configured to include a light diffusion component such as a bead 327b, or a fine pattern (not shown) is formed on the lower surface of the diffusion layer 327 without including the bead 327b. You may.
Through this, the diffusion layer 327 diffuses the light by refracting and scattering the incident light, and serves to emit the non-uniform light emitted from the LED assembly (128 in FIG. 4 ) as uniform light.
At this time, the bead 327b is included in the binder resin 327a, and the bead 327b has a feature that can prevent the light from being partially concentrated by dispersing the light incident on the diffusion layer 327 .
Here, the binder resin 327a has high transparency, excellent light transmittance, and easy viscosity control. For example, acrylic resin, urethane resin, epoxy resin, vinyl resin, polyester resin, or polyamide resin may be used.
In addition, the diffusion layer 327 not including the bead 327b has a feature that can adjust the light scattering angle according to the shape of the fine pattern (not shown), and the fine pattern (not shown) has an elliptical pattern. , polygonal pattern, etc., and by using a hologram pattern to refract the light incident by the interference pattern in an asymmetrical direction, the collected light is diffused at a more inclined angle. can make it happen
In addition, the light
As the aromatic ring-containing (meth)acrylic monomer (a2), for example, benzyl (meth)acrylate may be used. Since the aromatic ring-containing (meth)acrylic monomer has positive intrinsic birefringence, it can be used in combination with alkyl (meth)acrylate and (meth)acrylate monomers having negative intrinsic birefringence.
At this time, when a predetermined amount of the aromatic ring-containing (meth)acrylic monomer is used together with the carboxyl group-containing monomer (a3) and the hydroxyl group-containing monomer (a4), an adhesive having a desired refractive index can be obtained.
The
The light-
Since these resins have excellent dispersibility with respect to the
That is, the
Here, the absolute value of the refractive index difference between the
Here, the
A plurality of
At this time, the second
The
That is, the condition in which light diffusion occurs must be refracted due to the difference in refractive index between the two media.
Here, materials used in general optical films have a refractive index range of 1.5 to 1.7. At this time, if the second
In contrast, by providing a plurality of
Accordingly, the light incident from the second
In addition, the light passing through the
Accordingly, light passing through the
Here, the higher the density per unit area of the
At this time, the
Here, referring to (Table 1) below, it can be seen that the adhesion and transmittance of the light-
That is, the adhesive force of the light-
Here, as the light
At this time, in order for the light
That is, the light
Therefore, between the light
And, the first area (A') corresponding to the edge area (A of FIG. 4) of the liquid crystal panel (110 of FIG. 4) is formed to have a density per unit area of 90 to 91.7%, so that the first area (A') It is preferable that light is diffused less than that of the second region B'.
Accordingly, the first area A' of the
Through this, it is possible to prevent light deviation from occurring in the edge region (A in FIG. 4) and the central region (B in FIG. 4) of the liquid crystal panel (110 in FIG. 4), and thus the liquid crystal display device (100 in FIG. 4) It can also prevent the occurrence of a problem of deterioration of display quality.
Here, referring to the transmittance distribution diagram of light passing through the
This means that the amount of light passing through the first area A' of the
Therefore, in the liquid crystal display device (100 of FIG. 4) including such a
As described above, in the liquid crystal display (100 in FIG. 4) according to the embodiment of the present invention, the
Therefore, finally, it is possible to also prevent the occurrence of a problem of deterioration of the display quality of the liquid crystal display device ( 100 in FIG. 4 ).
