Abstract
본 출원은, 기재 상에 도포되어 전극을 형성하는 슬러리 응집성을 평가하는 방법에 관한 것으로, 슬러리 응집에 기인하는 라인 이슈를 해결하는데 이용될 수 있다.The present application relates to a method for evaluating the cohesiveness of a slurry applied on a substrate to form an electrode, and may be used to solve a line issue caused by agglomeration of the slurry.
Description
본 출원은 슬러리의 응집성 평가 방법에 관한 것이다.The present application relates to a method for evaluating the cohesiveness of a slurry.
전극 슬러리에 포함되는 활물질 간에는 강한 인력이 작용하기 때문에, 활물질 응집체가 형성될 수 있다. 특히, 전극 제조 과정 중 고속의 유동이 가해지면, 활물질 입자 간 충돌이 증가하게 되고, 그 결과 응집체 형성 가능성이 높아지게 된다. 예를 들어, 이러한 응집체는 도 1에 도시된 공정 중에 형성될 수 있다.Since a strong attractive force acts between the active materials included in the electrode slurry, an agglomerate of the active material may be formed. In particular, when a high-speed flow is applied during the electrode manufacturing process, collisions between active material particles increase, and as a result, the possibility of aggregate formation increases. For example, such agglomerates may form during the process illustrated in FIG. 1 .
In the process shown in FIG. 1, if the gap between the die and the substrate is wide, the particle agglomerates can sufficiently exit the die, or the agglomerates may be broken again by the flow applied in the coating process, so that the uncoated portion on the substrate can be generated. There is not much concern about However, when the size of the particle agglomerates is quite large or the amount of the loaded slurry is reduced, and/or when the distance between the die and the substrate is narrow, the slurry agglomerates do not exit the die and the portion of the substrate that cannot be coated in the MD (Maching Direction) direction There is a problem that this increases or widens. This problem is more frequent when the loading of the electrode slurry is reduced and the gap between the die and the substrate is reduced, so that even relatively small agglomerates cannot exit the die. In addition, although large particles are filtered while passing through the filter, even if the slurry has passed through the filter, an uncoated portion may occur while additionally forming particle aggregates due to the flow applied in the process of coating on the substrate. An evaluation method capable of estimating the degree or level of cohesiveness of the applied slurry is required.
본 출원의 일 목적은, 슬러리에 포함되는 입자 응집체가 다이(die)의 슬러리 토출구를 막아 기재 상의 미코팅 부분이 발생하는 라인 이슈를 개선하는 것이다.An object of the present application is to improve a line issue in which an uncoated portion on a substrate occurs because particle agglomerates included in the slurry block the slurry outlet of the die.
본 출원의 다른 목적은, 입자 응집으로 인해 활물질이 고른 분산 상태를 갖지 못하는 슬러리가 유발할 수 있는 전극 내 전류 채널의 감소나 저항 증가와 같은 전극의 물성 열화를 방지하는 것이다.Another object of the present application is to prevent deterioration of physical properties of an electrode, such as a decrease in a current channel or an increase in resistance, which may be caused by a slurry in which an active material does not have an even dispersion state due to particle agglomeration.
본 출원의 상기 목적 및 기타 그 밖의 목적은 하기 상세히 설명되는 본 출원에 의해 모두 해결될 수 있다.The above and other objects of the present application can all be solved by the present application described in detail below.
본 출원에 관한 일례에서, 본 출원은 슬러리(조성물)의 응집성 평가 방법에 관한 것이다. 구체적으로, 본 출원은 이동하는 기재 상에 도포되어 전극을 형성하는 전극용 슬러리에 유동이 가해지는 경우, 유동이 가해진 슬러리의 응집성을 평가하는 방법에 관한 것이다. In an example related to the present application, the present application relates to a method for evaluating cohesiveness of a slurry (composition). Specifically, the present application relates to a method for evaluating the cohesiveness of a slurry to which flow is applied when a flow is applied to a slurry for an electrode applied on a moving substrate to form an electrode.

In the method of the present application, the degree of cohesiveness of the slurry may be evaluated by measuring the viscoelastic value of the slurry and the maximum particle size in the slurry. Specifically, the method for evaluating the cohesiveness of a slurry according to the present application includes the steps of checking or measuring the viscoelastic value of the slurry, and checking or measuring the change in the maximum particle size in the slurry after applying a shear flow (S) to the slurry It may include the step of measuring.
In the present application, viscoelasticity refers to an index reflecting the viscous and elastic properties of an object. In this case, the elasticity (G') means a storage modulus, and the viscosity (G″) means a loss modulus. The viscosity (G") and elasticity (G') can be obtained through, for example, applying a sine wave vibration (strain: oscillatory strain) to the slurry and responding (stress: oscillatory strain) accordingly. When the (G”) value is large, it may mean that the viscous property of the slurry is large. Similarly, if the elastic (G') value is large, it may mean that the elastic property of the slurry is large. Viscoelasticity index used in the present application is the value of tanδ The relationship between vibration and response, ie, viscosity and elasticity, and tanδ is

∴ G'(ω)=(σ0/r0)cosδ, G”(ω)=(σ0/r0)·sinδ, tanδ = G”/G'∴ G'(ω)=(σ 0 /r 0 )cosδ, G”(ω)=(σ 0 /r 0 ) sinδ, tanδ = G”/G'
In the present application, the maximum particle size is the size of the largest agglomerate among the agglomerates observed in the slurry sample, and may be measured by a grinding gauge. In general, since the slurry has a high solid content, each component constituting the slurry is not dispersed as a single component in the slurry, but exists agglomerated with each other. Can be seen as.
하나의 예시에서, 본 출원의 응집성 평가 방법은 고형분 함량이 70% 이하인 슬러리에 대하여 수행될 수 있다. 이때 슬러리의 고형분 함량이란, 평가에 사용되는 슬러리 샘플의 총 중량에 있어서, 수분을 증발시켜 남게 되는 고형물질의 중량을 의미하는 것으로, 하기 식에 따라 계산될 수 있다.In one example, the cohesiveness evaluation method of the present application may be performed on a slurry having a solid content of 70% or less. In this case, the solid content of the slurry refers to the weight of the solid material remaining by evaporating moisture in the total weight of the slurry sample used for evaluation, and may be calculated according to the following formula.
The solid content of the slurry is closely related to the content of the electrode active material particles. When the content of the active material particles is low, the solid content may be low. The low content of the electrode active material particles has a problem of causing a decrease in the capacity of the electrode or a decrease in process efficiency related to drying. Therefore, in general, it is preferable to use a slurry having a solid content of at least 80%. On the other hand, when the content ratio of particles is high, it means that the possibility of the formation of aggregates due to collision of particles is increased. Conversely, a lower solids content may mean a lower likelihood of the formation of aggregates. However, even if the solid content is lowered, if the attractive force between particles is strong, if the flow applied during the coating process is high, if the process temperature is high or if the storage period of the slurry is long, aggregation of particles may occur differently than expected. A possible problem was identified. Accordingly, the present application can evaluate the agglomeration potential of slurries having a lower solid content than generally required levels.
According to the cohesiveness evaluation method of the present application, it is first confirmed whether the phase angle δ of tanδ calculated as a result of the viscoelasticity measurement is a slurry satisfying a predetermined value, and then the change in the maximum particle size can be confirmed. In order to confirm the change in particle size, the particle size must be measured at least twice. For example, the particle size is measured once before the shear flow (S) is applied to the slurry for which the viscoelastic value is checked, and the shear flow (S) is measured once. A second particle size can be measured after addition. The change in maximum particle size can be compared as the actual difference, or % ratio, of the first and second measurements.
More specifically, according to an example of the present application, before confirming the change in the maximum particle size, it may be first checked whether the slurry has a phase angle δ of tanδ of 45° or more. Considering that tan δ is the ratio of viscosity to elasticity (=G”/G′), a δ value of 45° or higher means that the viscosity is dominant and the slurry can have liquid-like properties. . In other words, it can be interpreted that a slurry having a δ value of 45° or higher may have a lower probability of agglomeration due to particle collision than a slurry having a solid-like property with a δ value of less than 45°. However, since the tanδ value is only a relative ratio, it is impossible to accurately predict whether agglomeration occurs during the process when a slurry is actually used. Specifically, even when viscosity is dominant among the viscoelastic properties of the slurry, when the flow applied in the coating process is high-speed, elasticity is stronger due to shear, and agglomeration of particles may occur. The flow of the discharged slurry may be obstructed. In consideration of this point, the present application can evaluate the agglomeration potential of a slurry having a liquid-like property in which the δ value is 45° or more and the viscosity is predominant.
In one example, the shear flow for measuring the maximum particle size is a shear rate in the range of 0.001 s −1 to 1,000 s −1 , and a temperature in the range of 20° C. to 90° C. to the slurry at one or more conditions. can be applied In another example, the shear flow may be applied for a time within 1 hour or within 30 minutes immediately after sampling. The means for applying the shear flow is not particularly limited, and, for example, a known rheometer may be used.
In the present application, the shear flow S applied to confirm the change in the maximum particle size may be applied to the slurry by simulating any one process condition that the slurry is subjected to until the electrode is formed. For example, when simulating a process in which a slurry including a binder, a solvent, and particles of an electrode active material is mixed, a relatively low flow rate, that is, a low shear rate, may be considered in simulating process conditions. In some cases, if agitation accompanied by a temperature increase is simulated, the simulation may be performed by increasing the temperature while maintaining the shear rate or increasing the shear rate and temperature together. In addition, if the slurry is discharged to simulate a high-speed coating process, a method of increasing the shear rate to, for example, 500 s -1 may be considered. As described above, in the present application, since shear flow is applied by simulating the process conditions that the slurry goes through until the electrode is formed, even when the solid content is low or the slurry has liquid-like properties, There is an advantage in that it is possible to know whether agglomeration occurs under actual process conditions, and this can be used to control process conditions.
In one example, in the method of the present application, before the shear flow (S) is applied for confirming the maximum particle size change, specifically, before the shear flow (S) is applied, before measuring the maximum particle size, viscoelasticity The shear flow (S') is applied to the confirmed slurry again, and the change in the viscoelastic value before and after the shear flow (S') is applied can be confirmed. Specifically, it can be confirmed whether the phase angle δ of tanδ changes to less than 45° after the shear flow S′ is applied. As described above, even for slurries with fluid-like properties, such as, for example, when δ is 45° or greater before applying a shear flow (S′), δ is 45 after applying any shear flow (S′). A change of less than ° means that agglomeration may occur in the slurry when subjected to process conditions with a given flow. However, even if the phase angle δ of tanδ is not less than 45° after the shear flow (S′) is applied, actual agglomeration may occur depending on the process conditions. A check for particle size can be made.
In one example, the conditions under which the shear flow (S') applied to confirm the change in the viscoelastic value and the shear flow (S) applied to confirm the change in the maximum particle size are the same or different from each other can When performed under different conditions, the shear flow (S′) applied to the slurry first to confirm the change in the viscoelastic value may be used to determine the tendency of the slurry to form agglomerates. In addition, when performed under the same conditions, the shear flow (S) applied to the slurry afterward to confirm the change in the maximum particle size may be a verification dimension for the tendency of the formation of aggregates identified earlier.
In one example, the present application may yield a slurry in which the maximum particle size before the shear flow is applied has a size of 80% or more compared to the maximum particle size after the shear flow is applied. When the slurry satisfying the above ratio is calculated, defects such as clogging of the die or the occurrence of an uncoated portion on the substrate during the coating process for forming the electrode after mass production of the slurry can be reduced and processability can be improved.
본 출원의 일례에 따르면, 전극 형성을 위한 코팅 과정에서 다이의 막힘이나 기재 상 미코팅 부분의 발생과 같은 불량을 줄이고, 공정성을 개선할 수 있다. According to an example of the present application, defects such as clogging of a die or generation of an uncoated portion on a substrate during a coating process for forming an electrode can be reduced, and processability can be improved.

본 출원은, 슬러리의 점탄성 특성인 위상각 δ, 및 실제 공정 조건에 상응하는 모사된 전단 유동을 가하여 측정된 입자 크기 변화를 통해, 슬러리의 응집체 형성 가능성, 즉 응집성을 평가함으로써, 예상하지 못했던 코팅 과정에서의 라인 이슈 문제를 예측하고, 해결하는데 이용될 수 있다.The present application provides an unexpected coating by evaluating the agglomerate formation potential of the slurry, that is, cohesiveness, through the phase angle δ, which is the viscoelastic property of the slurry, and the particle size change measured by applying a simulated shear flow corresponding to the actual process conditions. It can be used to predict and solve line issue problems in the process.
