Description
The present invention relates to a curved liquid crystal display panel and a curved display device having the same, and more particularly, to a curved liquid crystal display panel having improved display characteristics and a curved display device having the same.
In recent years, as a liquid crystal display device is used as a display device of a television receiver, the large screen of the screen of the liquid crystal display device is accelerating. However, according to the large screen of the screen, a problem arises in that the visual difference becomes large when the viewer views the center of the screen and when viewing the left and right ends of the screen. In this specification, the term "time" is defined as an angle formed by the line of sight of the observer of the screen and the tangent line of the screen being observed, and the difference is defined as a visual difference.
In addition, a problem with the screen of the large-size television liquid crystal display device is that the glare off of the screen is increased. This visual difference problem is improved by bending the screen in a concave shape.
However, when the screen is curved in a concave shape, display defects such as yellowish are generated due to the stress (hereinafter, curvature stress) of the curved surface.
The yellow wish defect is a display defect that is displayed by including a yellow color component in an image. The yellowish defect described above is caused by a low transmittance of the B pixel when the image is displayed by three colors, for example, red (R), green (G), and blue (B).

According to such a curved liquid crystal display panel and a curved display device having the same, by forming a heating line inducing a temperature rise of the liquid crystal layer in the curved liquid crystal display panel, the difference in refractive index of the liquid crystal layer is reduced, resulting in poor display such as yellow wish. In addition, the heating line HL may be uniformly formed or partially formed on the curved LCD panel. For example, when the heating line HL is partially formed in a curved liquid crystal display panel, the heating line HL is formed to correspond to an area where buckling occurs when the upper substrate and the lower substrate are merged and curved. 2A and 2B are cross-sectional views illustrating before and after applying curvature of a liquid crystal display panel. In particular, FIG. 2A is a cross-sectional view illustrating a flat liquid crystal display panel before applying curvature, and FIG. 2B is a cross-sectional view illustrating a curved liquid crystal display panel after applying curvature.
Referring to FIG. 2A, a flat liquid crystal display panel includes a lower substrate (or an array substrate), an upper substrate (or a color filter substrate), a liquid crystal layer disposed between the lower substrate and the upper substrate, the lower substrate and the upper substrate. And a sealant for sealing. The gap between the lower substrate and the upper substrate defines a cell gap of the liquid crystal layer.
Referring to FIG. 2B, a curved liquid crystal display panel may be manufactured by applying curvature to a flat liquid crystal display panel. In this case, compression may occur on the upper substrate, and expansion may occur on the lower substrate. As a result, the cell gap of the liquid crystal layer increases at a specific site. When the cell gap of the liquid crystal layer increases at a certain portion, yellowishness is recognized because the transmittance of the B color pixel is lower than that at the other portions.
FIG. 3 is a view for explaining whether or not the yellow wish is recognized in response to before and after applying curvature. In FIG. 3, the term X color coordinate refers to the white X value in the CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram. The term Y color crime table also refers to the white Y value in the CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram.
Referring to FIG. 3, in the flat liquid crystal display before applying curvature, the X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance corresponding to the left portion were observed as 0.2792, 0.3008, and 354.1 nits, respectively. The X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance corresponding to the center portion, respectively, were observed as 0.2758, 0.2982, and 422.3 nits. The X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance corresponding to the right side were respectively 0.2757, 0.2989 and 496.5 nits. Subtracting the right side from the left side, the X color coordinate difference, the Y color coordinate difference, and the luminance difference, respectively, can be calculated as 0.0034, 0.0026, and -68.2. Further, by subtracting the left part from the right part, the X color coordinate difference, the Y color coordinate difference, and the luminance difference may be calculated as 0.0001, 0.0007, and 74.2, respectively.
On the other hand, in a curved liquid crystal display having a radius of curvature of 4000 mm after application of curvature, the X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance corresponding to the left side were respectively 0.2867, 0.3097, and 309 nits. X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance corresponding to the central portion, respectively, were observed as 0.2754, 0.2988 and 427 nits. The X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance corresponding to the right side were respectively 0.2793, 0.3027, and 455 nits. Subtracting the right side from the left side, the X color coordinate difference, the Y color coordinate difference, and the luminance difference, respectively, can be calculated as 0.0113, 0.0109, and -118. In addition, subtracting the left part from the right part, the X color coordinate difference, the Y color coordinate difference, and the luminance difference may be calculated to be 0.0039, 0.0039, and 28, respectively.
As such, when the curvature is applied to the liquid crystal display, it can be seen that the X color coordinate and the Y color coordinate increase. Increasing the X and Y color coordinates means that the standard white shifts toward the red and green areas on the CIE 1931 color coordinate system. When the standard white shifts toward the red region and the green region, it means that the transmittance of the blue pixel is reduced.
In summary, the yellow wish was not recognized in the flat liquid crystal display device before curvature application. However, when the curvature is applied to the flat liquid crystal display, it can be seen that the yellow wish is strongly recognized in the curved liquid crystal display.
In general, the phase difference of the liquid crystal layer is defined as Δnd (where Δn is the difference between the horizontal refractive index and the vertical refractive index, and d is the cell gap of the liquid crystal layer). When the cell gap d of the liquid crystal layer is increased, the transmittance of the B color pixel is decreased to cause a yellowish phenomenon. However, this yellowish phenomenon can be prevented by increasing the temperature of the liquid crystal layer.
FIG. 4 is a table for describing a degree of yellowish visibility according to a temperature change in the curved LCD of FIG. 3.
Referring to FIG. 4, when the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 29 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed at 0.277, 0.2975, and 271.0 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 30 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed as 0.2768, 0.2973, and 270.6 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 31 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed as 0.2766, 0.297, and 270.1 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 32 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed at 0.2763, 0.2966, and 269.8 nits. As such, the yellowishish was recognized at a medium level at a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius.

When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 33 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed at 0.2761, 0.2963, and 269.5 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 34 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed as 0.2758, 0.2959, and 269.0 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 35 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed at 0.2756, 0.2956, and 268.7 nits. As such, the yellowishish was recognized at a weak level at a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius.
When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 36 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed as 0.2754, 0.2953, and 268.4 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 37 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance were respectively 0.2751, 0.2949, and 268.0 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 38 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed as 0.2749, 0.2946, and 267.8 nits. As such, the yellowishish was recognized at a very weak level at a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius to 38 degrees Celsius.
When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 39 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed at 0.2745, 0.2942, and 267.4 nits. When the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 40 degrees Celsius, X color coordinates, Y color coordinates, and luminance, respectively, were observed as 0.2743, 0.2938, and 266.9 nits. As such, the yellowishish was not recognized when the temperature of the liquid crystal cell was 39 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius.
As such, it can be seen that as the temperature of the liquid crystal cell of the liquid crystal display increases, the X color coordinate and the Y color coordinate decrease. Decreasing X and Y color coordinates means that the standard white color shifts towards the blue region on the CIE 1931 color coordinate system. When the standard white shifts to the blue region, it means that the transmittance of the blue color pixel is increased. Therefore, it can be seen that as the temperature of the liquid crystal cell increases, the transmittance of the blue color pixel is increased to prevent the yellowish phenomenon.
In the above it has been described to prevent the yellowish phenomenon by increasing the temperature of the liquid crystal cell. In addition, if the temperature of the liquid crystal cell is increased, the response speed of the liquid crystal can also be increased.
5 is a table for explaining a result of measuring the response speed of the liquid crystal according to the arrangement of the heat source for the temperature rise. In particular, a heat source is disposed on the right short side of the short side of the backlight unit to indicate a response speed according to temperature change. Here, the rising time refers to the response characteristic of the liquid crystal when changing from the lowest gray level to the highest gray level. Falling time refers to the response characteristic of the liquid crystal when changing from the highest gray level to the lowest gray level. G-to-G time refers to the average response characteristic of the remaining gray levels except the lowest gray level and the highest gray level.
Referring to FIG. 5, since the heat source is disposed at the right side of the backlight unit, the surface temperature of the liquid crystal cell corresponding to the right side of the backlight unit was measured at 34.9 degrees Celsius. The surface temperature of the liquid crystal cell corresponding to the central portion of the backlight unit was measured at 31.1 degrees Celsius. The surface temperature of the liquid crystal cell corresponding to the left portion of the backlight unit was measured at 30.4 degrees Celsius.
The rising time corresponding to the right portion of the backlight unit is 10.41 msec, the rising time corresponding to the center portion of the backlight unit is 11.50 msec, and the rising time corresponding to the left portion of the backlight unit is 12.37 msec. Therefore, when the heat source is arranged to increase the temperature of the liquid crystal cell, it can be confirmed that the liquid crystal layer has a fast rising time.
On the other hand, the polling time corresponding to the right part of the backlight unit is 4.63 msec, the polling time corresponding to the center part of the backlight unit is 4.81 msec, and the polling time corresponding to the left part of the backlight unit is 5.23 msec. Therefore, when the heat source is arranged to increase the temperature of the liquid crystal cell, it can be seen that the liquid crystal layer has a fast falling time.
Meanwhile, the gray scale average time corresponding to the right side of the backlight unit is 6.52 msec, the gray scale average time corresponding to the center portion of the backlight unit is 7.17 msec, and the gray scale average corresponding to the left portion of the backlight unit. The time is 8.56 msec. Therefore, when the heat source is arranged to increase the temperature of the liquid crystal cell, it can be confirmed that the liquid crystal layer has a quick gray scale average time.
That is, when the heat source is disposed in the backlight unit, it can be seen that a difference in response speed occurs according to the position of the heat source.
Therefore, it can be seen that the response speed of the region where the heat source is disposed is faster than the response speed of the region where the heat source is not disposed.

Although described above with reference to the embodiments, those skilled in the art can be variously modified and changed within the scope of the present invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention described in the claims below. I can understand.
As described above, according to the present invention, a heating line for inducing a rise in temperature of the liquid crystal layer is formed inside the curved liquid crystal display panel so as to correspond to the region where the buckling phenomenon occurs, thereby corresponding to the region where the buckling phenomenon occurs. The temperature of the liquid crystal layer is raised to reduce the refractive index difference of the liquid crystal layer.
In addition, by attaching a heat source that induces a temperature rise of the liquid crystal layer to the back of the backlight unit or to the rear of the rear case of the curved liquid crystal display device so as to correspond to the area where the buckling occurs, the liquid crystal corresponding to the area where the buckling occurs The temperature of the layer is raised to reduce the refractive index difference of the liquid crystal layer.
Accordingly, even if the cell gap of the liquid crystal layer increases due to the buckling phenomenon, the difference in refractive index of the liquid crystal layer decreases, thereby preventing display defects such as yellowishness, thereby improving display characteristics. In addition, the response speed of the liquid crystal may be increased by increasing the temperature of the liquid crystal layer.
