Abstract
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a technique for producing a hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane by modifying the surface of an alumina hollow fiber membrane obtained by a phase transfer method to a perfluoroalkylsilane.
According to the present invention, since the alumina hollow fiber membrane is surface-modified by perfluoroalkylsilane (FAS) coating to exhibit hydrophobicity, it is easy to move the gas through the pores of the membrane and thus to transfer the substance. As the absorption liquid flow rate increases, It is possible to provide a hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane for absorbing carbon dioxide in which the amount of water absorption is remarkably increased, and the absorption rate of carbon dioxide can be greatly improved by applying the membrane module including the membrane module to a membrane contactor.
Description

Recently, global warming caused by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide or Freon has become an important environmental problem in the world. Among the above greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide is a major object of global warming phenomenon due to its high concentration in the atmosphere. Since about half of the carbon dioxide emissions occur in the combustion process of fossil fuels such as coal power generation, there is a growing need to develop low energy-efficient technologies that can capture and remove carbon dioxide from such stationary sources.
In general, the absorption process using wet amines is a field where stable operation can be performed to remove carbon dioxide on a large scale, and the research is relatively easy since the design is relatively easy. However, the conventional packed bed absorption process has problems such as high energy consumption, entrainment, flooding, channeling and foaming (Patent Document 1).
On the other hand, in the contact membrane process which has been studied recently, since the liquid and the gas are in contact with each other through the separation membrane, independent operation can be performed to solve the phenomenon occurring in the conventional absorption process, and the gas absorption rate can be increased by increasing the gas flow rate. Particularly, it is known that the hollow fiber contact membrane has efficient surface area and module packing rate per unit volume as compared with the technology using a flat plate or tubular separator, and thus efficient mass transfer is possible. The separator used in the contact membrane requires high hydrophobicity and porosity, low mass transfer resistance and resistance to chemicals used as an absorbing solution. Most of the contact membrane processes for absorbing carbon dioxide were developed by applying a porous membrane made of polymer such as polyethylene, polypropylene or polyamide. However, such a polymer membrane is deformed due to the expansion phenomenon due to the absorption liquid, and the absorption efficiency of carbon dioxide is drastically reduced (Patent Document 2).
Therefore, in order to overcome the above-mentioned problems, a contact film of a ceramic material having better chemical and thermal stability than that of a polymer has recently been developed. Most of the ceramic separators are manufactured using a metal oxide, And have hydrophilic properties. However, such a hydrophilic ceramic separator has a disadvantage in that wetting phenomenon occurs in which the absorbent fills the pores, and mass transfer through the pores of the separator is not smooth (Non-Patent Document 1).
Therefore, the present inventors have found that if a ceramic alumina hollow fiber membrane is prepared by a conventional phase transfer method and a hydroxy group present on the surface of the alumina hollow fiber membrane is reacted with a perfluoroalkylsilane compound as a coupling agent to be hydrophobically modified, The present invention has been completed based on the fact that the hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane can be applied to a hollow fiber membrane contact apparatus for absorbing carbon dioxide.

Hereinafter, a hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane for carbon dioxide absorption surface-modified with a perfluorinated alkylsilane according to the present invention and a method for producing the same will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
The present invention provides a hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane for carbon dioxide absorption, which is surface-modified with a perfluorinated alkylsilane represented by the following formula.
(Wherein n is an integer of 7 to 10, and R 1 , R 2 and R 3 = -CH 3 , -CH 2 CH 3 , -OCH 3 or -OCH 2 CH 3 , and at least two of R 1 to R 3 may be the same or different from each other as -OCH 3 or -OCH 2 CH 3 )
In order to overcome the problem that the porous organic polymer hollow fiber membrane applied to the contact membrane process for absorbing carbon dioxide is deformed due to the swelling phenomenon due to the absorption liquid and the absorption rate of carbon dioxide is drastically reduced, Based ceramic. However, since the alumina hollow fiber membrane has hydrophilicity due to the hydroxyl group (-OH) present on the surface, wetting phenomenon occurs in which the absorbent fills the pores and the permeation of the substance through the pores of the membrane is not smooth. It is a technical idea to improve the hydrophobic property of the surface of the hydrophilic alumina hollow fiber membrane to improve the absorption of carbon dioxide.
That is, as shown in Fig. 1, since the hydroxy group (-OH) is originally present on the surface of the alumina hollow fiber membrane, it is hydrophilic. However, when the alumina hollow fiber membrane is reacted with perfluoroalkylsilane (FAS) as a coupling agent, the hydrogen ion (H + ) in the methyl group (-CH 3 ) at the end of FAS forms a hydroxyl group (-OH) on the surface of the alumina hollow fiber membrane, (H 2 O) in the presence of water. Therefore, the carbon chain at the opposite end of the FAS comes out of the hollow fiber membrane surface to become hydrophobic while covering the hydrophilic group (-OH).
In particular, FAS is preferably represented by the above formula. In order to impart sufficient hydrophobicity in the above formula, n is preferably an integer of 7 to 10, more preferably 7. Furthermore, it is preferable that at least two of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 bonded to the silicon atom are a methoxy group (-OCH 3 ) or ethoxy group (-OCH 2 CH 3 ) for a smooth coupling reaction with FAS, And when two of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are methoxy group (-OCH 3 ) or ethoxy group (-OCH 2 CH 3 ), the other one is a methyl group (-CH 3 ) or an ethyl group -CH 2 CH 3 ).
As the perfluoroalkylsilane (FAS) represented by the above formula, perfluorooctylethyl trimethoxysilane is more preferable in view of the coupling reactivity on the alumina surface and the hydrophobic modification effect thereof use.
In addition, the alumina is the most common alpha-alumina (α-Al 2 O 3) to be preferably used, but the number of hydroxyl groups lot to the alumina surface relative to the specific surface area is large to known gamma-alumina (γ-Al 2 O 3) Can also be effective when considering the coupling reactivity with the FAS.
In addition, the hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane for absorbing carbon dioxide according to the present invention has an average pore size of 0.28-0.31 탆 and a porosity of 49.1-56.1%, which is preferable because the absorption rate of carbon dioxide can be maximized.
The present invention also relates to a method for preparing a dope solution, comprising the steps of: I) mixing alumina particles, a polymeric binder and a dispersant with an organic solvent to obtain a dope solution; II) supplying and discharging the dope solution with a double spinning nozzle together with an internal coagulant to form a hollow fiber; III) contacting the hollow fiber with an external coagulant to obtain a hollow fiber membrane by washing, drying and sintering under a phase change process; And IV) immersing the sintered hollow fiber membrane in a perfluoroalkylsilane solution represented by the following formula at room temperature for 2 to 50 hours.
(Wherein n is an integer of 7 to 10 and R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are -CH 3 , -CH 2 CH 3 , -OCH 3 or -OCH 2 CH 3 , and R 1 to R 3 at least two may be the same as each other, -OCH 3 or -OCH 2 CH 3 or different)

The dispersant is used for improving the dispersibility of the alumina particles in an organic solvent. Preferably, polyvinylpyrrolidone or polyvinyl alcohol is used, and polyvinylpyrrolidone is more preferably used.
The organic solvent is soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and the like. And dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) is more preferably used.
The content of alumina particles in the dope solution is preferably 50 to 60% by weight in view of dispersibility in the dope solution and easiness of film formation in the process of producing the hollow fiber membrane.
In addition, as the inner coagulant and the external coagulant, it is possible to easily obtain an asymmetric porous membrane by using water to exchange the solvent-non-solvent during the hollow fiber formation and phase transition.
Meanwhile, as shown in an example of the profile of FIG. 2, the sintering process in the step III) may proceed at a temperature elevation rate and an isothermal state holding time at different temperatures and sintered at 1300 ° C. for 4 hours.
In step IV), the sintered hollow fiber membrane is immersed in a perfluoroalkylsilane solution represented by the above formula at room temperature for 2 to 150 hours to coat the surface of the hollow fiber membrane to modify its surface. As described above, Is more preferably perfluorooctyl ethyl trimethoxysilane (perfluorooctyl ethyl trimethoxysilane).
At this time, the perfluorinated alkylsilane solution represented by the above formula is obtained by dissolving perfluorinated alkylsilane compound in an organic solvent such as n-hexane, and its concentration is preferably 0.01 mol / L to 0.05 mol / L, If the concentration of the alkylsilane solution is less than 0.01 mol / L, it is difficult to uniformly form the coating layer. If the concentration of the perfluorinated alkylsilane solution exceeds 0.05 mol / L, the coating layer becomes thicker and the absorption rate of carbon dioxide may be lowered. Of the perfluoroalkylsilane compound.
Also, the present invention provides a membrane module comprising a hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane for absorbing carbon dioxide which is surface-modified with a perfluorinated alkylsilane represented by the above formula. By applying this membrane module to a hollow fiber membrane contactor, Can greatly improve.
Hereinafter, specific embodiments will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
(Example) Preparation of alumina hollow fiber membrane surface-modified with FAS
60 wt% of alpha-alumina (alpha -Al 2 O 3 ) particles, 6 wt% of polyethersulfone and 0.5 wt% of polyvinylpyrrolidone were mixed with 33.5 wt% of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) . The dope solution was transferred to a stainless steel reservoir and the bubbles generated during the process of obtaining the dope solution in a vacuum state for 1 hour were completely removed. The dope solution was supplied to the double spinning nozzle through a gear pump and the dope solution was discharged through the outer nozzle of the double spinning nozzle. Water inside the spinning nozzle was supplied through a syringe pump Phase transition between the internal coagulant and the dope solution was initiated to form a hollow fiber. The hollow fiber was contacted with water as an external coagulant to perform a normal washing and drying process while undergoing a phase transition process. Subsequently, the dried film was sintered at 1300 DEG C according to sintering conditions shown in Fig. 2 by using an electric furnace. Finally, the sintered membrane was cut to a length of 100 to 200 mm and immersed in a perfluorooctylethyltrimethoxysilane solution (dissolved in n-hexane at a concentration of 0.02 mol / L) at room temperature for 2 hours to obtain a coupling reaction And then washed three times with n-hexane to remove the unreacted compound and dried in an oven at 120 ° C for 24 hours to prepare an alumina hollow fiber membrane surface-modified with perfluorinated alkylsilane.
FIG. 3 shows X-ray diffraction characteristics of the alumina particle (a) according to the embodiment of the present invention and the alumina hollow fiber membrane (b) after sintering at 1300 ° C. As shown in FIG. 3, alumina particles contained about 0.1% of impurities such as Na 2 O, SiO 2 , Fe 2 O 3 and MgO, but were not detected at the X-ray diffraction peak. α-Al 2 O 3 ) structure. In addition, a dope solution was prepared using a polymer material such as N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), polyethersulfone, or polyvinylpyrrolidone for spinning the hollow fiber membrane. However, even in the case of a membrane sintered at 1300 ° C., Alpha -Al 2 O 3 ) peaks were obtained in the same manner as in Example 1 . It was found that all of these polymers were decomposed and removed at a sintering temperature of 1300 ° C or less, and that impurities were not formed due to the reaction of the alumina with the material generated at the high temperature decomposition. Since the hollow fiber membranes were pulverized by agate mortar and analyzed in powder form, single X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that pure alpha-alumina (α-Al 2 O 3 ). ≪ / RTI >
4 shows a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of a section (a) and a section (b) of a sintered alumina hollow fiber membrane according to an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 4, it can be seen that the alumina hollow fiber membrane after sintering has an asymmetric structure in which a finger-like layer is present near the inner and outer surfaces and a sponge structure exists therebetween. This structure is generated by the exchange of the solvent used in the dope solution and the water used as the coagulant during the phase transition. In the vicinity of the surface, the deposition rate of the polyethersulfone used as the binder is fast, so that the finger structure is formed. On the other hand, the precipitated polyethersulfone interferes with the solvent-non-solvent interchange and slows down the polyethersulfone precipitation rate in the middle layer of the hollow fiber membrane, .
5 shows an infrared spectroscopic (FT-IR) spectra of the FAS coating before and after the surface modification of the alumina hollow fiber membrane with perfluoroalkylsilane (FAS) according to an embodiment of the present invention. Respectively. As shown in FIG. 5, peaks that were not found before the coating appeared in the range of about 772 to 820 cm -1 after the FAS coating were found to be caused by bonding between Si-C in organosilane compounds . It was found that the FAS was uniformly coated on the surface even after the process of washing the alumina hollow fiber membrane with hydrophobic three times with n-hexane and drying in an oven at 120 ° C for 24 hours.
6 is a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image (a) of a sintered alumina hollow fiber membrane obtained by photographing the surfaces of the lumen side and the shell side before and after hydrophobic modification, according to an embodiment of the present invention. (B) inside, (c) inside, and (d) outside after reforming. 6 (a) and 6 (b) show pore size and distribution similar to each other on the lumen side and shell side surface of the sintered alumina hollow fiber membrane (before hydrophobic modification). The pores were in the form of open pores connected to the inside and outside, and it was confirmed that gas permeation was possible. Comparing FIGS. 6 (a), (c), and (b) and (d), it can be seen that the pore structure on the surface of the separator after the hydrophobicity modification is almost unchanged. Therefore, even after the hydrophobic modification by the FAS coating, the surface porosity is not greatly affected, and the pores are not blocked.
FIG. 7 is a graph showing changes in the contact angle with time for modifying (coating) the surface of the sintered alumina hollow fiber membrane with the fluorinated alkyl silane (FAS) according to the present invention, , It can be seen that the alumina hollow fiber membrane coated with FAS for 2 hours (Example) had a contact angle of 119.7 ° and its surface was hydrophobically modified. Further, when the coating process was performed while increasing the coating time to 150 hours, it was found that the contact angle was increased as a whole. However, after the coating time exceeded 50 hours, there was no significant change in the increase of the contact angle and the sintered alumina hollow- The coating time for modifying the surface of the substrate to be hydrophobic is sufficient for 2 to 50 hours, more preferably 2 to 20 hours.
FIG. 8 shows the results of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the surface of the sintered alumina hollow fiber membrane according to the present invention, which was modified by coating with a fluorinated alkyl silane (FAS). As shown in FIG. 8, when the surface of the sintered alumina hollow fiber membrane was not coated with FAS, there was almost no change in weight loss even when the temperature was increased. On the other hand, the alumina hollow fiber membrane coated with FAS And the coating time was increased up to 150 hours, the rapid weight loss was observed at about 250 ° C. Thus, it can be confirmed that the organic compound FAS was well coated on the surface of the alumina hollow fiber membrane. In addition, the weight loss ratio (%) also shows a large increase in the coating time from 2 to 50 hours, and the change is not significant after 50 hours, which corresponds to the contact angle measurement result of FIG.
In order to confirm the hydrophobic properties of the FAS-modified alumina hollow fiber membrane manufactured from the embodiment of the present invention, the minimum penetration pressure was measured. The minimum penetration pressure of the alumina hollow fiber membrane before coating with FAS Was almost the same as atmospheric pressure at 1.07 bar, but increased to 4.46 bar in the case of the embodiment. Such a minimum infiltration pressure can be expressed by the following equation (1) known as the Young-Laplace equation.
(1) (One)
In the above formula (1) Is the surface tension of the absorbing liquid, Is the pore radius of the separation membrane. In the present invention, since the distilled water is used as the absorbing solution, the surface tension has a fixed value, and since the pore structure of the hollow fiber membrane before and after coating with FAS was not affected as shown in FIG. 6, the pore radius is almost the same. Therefore, only the contact angle expressed by θ acts as a parameter influencing the minimum penetration pressure. As θ increases in the
In addition, a single membrane module was fabricated using a hollow fiber membrane having hydrophobic characteristics confirmed by measuring the contact angle and minimum penetration pressure, and a device (see FIG. 9) was used to measure the flow rate of the absorbing solution (distilled water) at 20 to 50 ml / min And the carbon dioxide absorption experiment was carried out. The results are shown in FIG. As the flow rate of the absorption liquid increased, the carbon dioxide uptake increased. At a flow rate of 50 ml / min, the maximum absorption was 1.34 × 10 -3 mol / m 2 · s.
On the other hand, in general, the overall mass transfer resistance in the contact film is represented by the sum of gas phase, liquid phase and membrane mass transfer resistance as shown in the following equation (2).
(2)
(2)
In the above formula (2) Is the overall mass transfer coefficient (m / s) , , Is the individual mass transfer coefficient (m / s) of the gas phase, separator, and liquid phase, respectively. And Is a dimensionless Henry's constant determined by the concentration ratio of gas to liquid. As the liquid flow rate increases, the value of the individual mass transfer coefficient of the liquid phase becomes larger and the overall mass transfer coefficient increases as shown in equation (2). This can be confirmed by the experimental result that the amount of carbon dioxide absorption increases as shown in Fig. However, it was observed that the increase of carbon dioxide uptake by flow rate was gradually decreased. This is because, when the liquid mass transfer coefficient in Equation (2) increases and the liquid film resistance approaches 0, the global mass transfer coefficient does not become infinitely large, Convergence.
Purif. Technol. 21, 101(2000), M. Mavroudi, et al., Fuel.
The process of absorbing carbon dioxide by the contact membrane using distilled water as the absorption liquid has been studied by using a variety of polymer hollow fiber membranes centering on the AF Ismail research team in Malaysia. In the conventional paper, it has been found that the carbon dioxide / The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed was reported to be in the range of 1.5 × 10 -5 to 3.7 × 10 -4 mol / m 2 · s [Young-Seok Kim et al., Sep. Purif. Technol. 21 , 101 (2000), M. Mavroudi, et al., Fuel. 82 , 2153 (2003)]. In the present invention, the result was about 3.62 ~ 89.33 times higher than the above.
Therefore, according to the present invention, since the alumina hollow fiber membrane is surface-modified by perfluoroalkylsilane (FAS) coating to exhibit hydrophobicity, it is easy to move the gas through the pores of the membrane and thus to transfer the substance, It is possible to provide a hydrophobic alumina hollow fiber membrane for absorbing carbon dioxide in which the amount of absorbed carbon dioxide is remarkably increased, and the absorption rate of carbon dioxide can be greatly improved by applying the membrane module including the membrane module to a membrane contactor.
