Abstract
The present invention relates to an absorbent for carbon dioxide which is an ionic liquid consisting of a cation selected from pyrrolidinium and piperidinium and an anion selected from alkylphosphate and dialkylphosphate and which has little vapor pressure and excellent thermal stability and absorbs carbon dioxide well In addition, the removal of the absorbed carbon dioxide can be performed at a relatively low temperature, and even when the absorption and deaeration are repeated, the initial absorption ability can be substantially maintained, so that it can be used as an effective carbon dioxide separation medium.

Description
The present invention relates to a method of using pyrrolidinium and piperidinium-based room temperature ionic liquids as CO 2 absorbers. More particularly, the present invention relates to an ionic liquid comprising an anion selected from an anion selected from pyrrolidinium or piperidinium having a heterocyclic structure of the following general formula (1) or (2) and an alkyl phosphate or dialkyl phosphate having a general formula (3) As a CO 2 absorbent.
Methods for separating CO 2 from exhaust gases and natural gas from chemical plants, power plants, and large boilers are used, including absorption, adsorption, separation membrane, and deep sea cooling. Particularly when the CO 2 concentration is low, the absorption method and the adsorption method are frequently used. The absorption method and the adsorption method are industrially widely used because they can selectively separate only some gases that are absorbed or adsorbed well by the absorbent or the adsorbent, but the adsorbent and the adsorbent are chemically deformed during the separation process, and periodic replacement is required. Therefore, when a solid adsorbent is used, it is advantageous to apply the adsorbent only when the adsorbent has less chemical deformation and the replacement period of the adsorbent is long. On the other hand, since the absorption method uses a liquid-phase absorbent, it is easy to replace the absorbent, which is widely used for a large amount of exhaust gas purification or gas separation, but the absorbent is chemically deformed.
As the carbon dioxide absorbing agent, an amine aqueous solution such as MEA (monoethanolamine), MDEA (N-methyldiethanolamine) or DEA (diethanolamine) is most widely used because the amine absorbing agent chemically bonds with CO 2 , CO 2 can be stripped off and recovered and the absorbent can be regenerated. However, this process has some serious problems. In particular, irreversible decomposition of amines due to the high temperature used to break the chemical breakdown of the amine between CO 2 and the absorbent in the regeneration step of the absorbent and the decomposition problem of the amine by the impurities such as SOx and NOx contained in the absorption gas is problematic. Further, it is pointed out that there is a problem that the performance of the absorbent is deteriorated and the absorbent is replenished, the corrosion of the absorbing device by the amine itself or the decomposition product, and the gas regenerated by the vapor pressure of the absorbent are contaminated.
Methods of physically absorbing CO 2 using organic solvents such as Selexol, IFPexol, and NFM as disclosed in U.S. Patent Nos. 4581052, 6342091 and 2005/0129598 have been reported to compensate for the disadvantages of the amine water absorbent. The most significant advantage of organic solvent absorbent is that it requires a much lower energy for CO 2 recovery, and solvent recycle because CO 2 absorption is being done, not chemical bonds such as in amine aqueous solution only by the physical interaction between the solvent and carbon dioxide. In fact, in the case of amine sorbents, carbon dioxide recovery and sorbent regeneration require energy-intensive high-temperature stripping, but in the case of physical absorption, CO 2 , which is dissolved in the solvent, is simply recovered . However, the physical absorption process also has the following disadvantages.
First, CO 2 absorption capacity is low. Since organic solvents generally exhibit much lower CO 2 absorption capacity than aqueous amine solutions, the circulation rate of the sorbent is high and therefore larger equipment is needed. On the other hand, CO 2 uptake by physical interactions tends to increase as the CO 2 concentration increases, so CO 2 can be effective for CO 2 separation in high concentration gases.
Second, it has a high net exchange rate. The physical absorption process with organic solvents requires more capital and equipment costs because it normally requires twice the absorbent circulation rate compared to the amine solution.
Third, a loss of solvent occurs. The solvent used for physical absorption tends to be lost during treatment absorption and regeneration because of the low boiling point. This loss of solvent can be minimized through cooling or washing, but it has the disadvantage of requiring additional equipment installation costs. Therefore, it is required to develop a new absorbent which has high thermal and chemical stability and low vapor pressure, which can overcome the disadvantages of the amine absorbent and the organic solvent absorbent.
In order to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional absorbent, there has been proposed a method of overcoming the disadvantages of the conventional absorbent by using an ionic liquid which is not volatile and maintains a liquid state at a low temperature of 100 DEG C or less while having a high thermal stability, as disclosed in U.S. Patent Nos. 6,849,774, 6,623,659 and U.S. Patent Application Publication No. 2008/0146849 ionic liquid as an absorbent. Ionic liquids are polar compounds with organic cations and organic or inorganic anions. They are CO, CO 2 , SO 2 And N 2 O. In addition, The solubility of the gas absorbed in the ionic liquid varies depending on the degree of interaction between the gas and the ionic liquid, and thus the cation and anion of the ionic liquid are appropriately modified so that the polarity, acidity, and basicity of the ionic liquid basicity, and nucleophilicity can be controlled to some extent by solubility in certain gases.

Amine-based absorbents such as monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, and triethanolamine, which are widely used industrially at present, have weak alkalinity and show excellent performance in absorbing carbon dioxide. However, since these amine-based absorbents have a high vapor pressure, there is a problem that the absorbent is discharged and lost at the time of degassing and the problem that the recovered CO 2 is contaminated with the absorbent, and the low absorbency of the absorbent due to a trace amount of impurities contained in the gas, Some of them were destroyed. The nitrogen-containing heterocyclic cations are reacted with a heterocyclic cation containing AlCl 4 - , BF 4 - , PF 6 - , (CF 3 SO) 2 N - , CF 3 SO 3 - , MeSO 3 - , NO 3 - , CF 3 CO 2 - , CH 3 CO 2 - , Various ionic liquids have been proposed as carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide gas absorbers. It has been suggested that ionic liquids that maintain a liquid state at room temperature can be utilized as a gas absorbent. However, these ionic liquids are vulnerable to moisture, and tend to be decomposed by the moisture contained in the mixed gas, resulting in a problem of inferior gas absorption ability, or the ionic liquid is expensive and difficult to be used for general purpose. In order to overcome these problems, the present invention proposes an ionic liquid which is inexpensive, durable and has a good carbon dioxide absorbing ability.

The process shown in Figure 1 is similar to that commonly used in physical absorption processes. Stripping step of the absorption of carbon dioxide in the ionic liquid has a much lower energy there is required compared to the high temperature stripping process required for recovery of CO 2 from the process using amine absorbents which than in amine solution to a chemical bond with CO 2 CO Because it is much easier to remove CO 2 from the ionic liquid where the two are absorbed by the physical interaction. Ionic liquids are also more efficient than organic solvent absorbers because the ionic liquids are better able to absorb CO 2 than organic solvent absorbers, thereby reducing the circulating circulation of the absorbent and thus reducing the size of the device. In addition, the ionic liquid has a very low absorption rate of hydrocarbons as compared with the organic solvent absorbent, so that it can minimize the loss of hydrocarbons because it absorbs only CO 2 selectively when it is used for purification of hydrocarbons containing CO 2 impurities.
An additional benefit of the process and method used in the present invention is that the loss of ionic liquid absorbent is very low. Since the ionic liquid absorbent used in the present invention has a very low vapor pressure, there is little possibility of loss of the ionic liquid absorbent and there is also little loss of ionic liquid through the decomposition process because of its chemical stability.
When the ionic liquid proposed in the present invention is used to absorb carbon dioxide, the temperature is in the range of 0 ° C. to 80 ° C., preferably in the range of 20 ° C. to 50 ° C., the pressure is in the range of normal pressure to 60 atmospheres, Deg.] C to 100 [deg.] C, preferably 40 to 80 [deg.] C, the pressure is reduced to normal pressure and degassed. When carbon dioxide is absorbed, the lower the temperature, the higher the pressure, the more the carbon dioxide uptake increases. In particular, as the uptake pressure increases, the carbon dioxide uptake increases linearly proportionally. The ionic liquid proposed in the present invention exhibits an excellent absorption ability against carbon dioxide, and the absorption power is maintained almost the same as the initial one even in the case of repeated use.
For example, when carbon dioxide is absorbed at 15 atm and 40 ° C using butylmethylpyrrolidinium butyl phosphate ([BMPyrr] [BHPO 3 ]), 95% of the apparent equilibrium value is reached within 40 minutes, This corresponds to a CO 2 uptake of 0.26 mol per mole, corresponding to 52% of 0.5 mol of CO 2 per mole of amine, the maximum theoretical absorption of the amine-based absorbent, and is one of the best performance ionic liquids, butyl methylimide CO 2 absorption capacity of the zirconium tetrafluoroborate ([BIMIm] BF 4 ) exceeds 0.23 mol CO 2 / mol [BIMIm] BF 4 . Here, the apparent equilibrium value refers to the absorption value when the amount of absorption of carbon dioxide is measured according to the change of time, and the amount of absorption is no longer changed. When the absorption amount of carbon dioxide reaches the apparent equilibrium value, the pressure is lowered to normal pressure and degassed at 70 ° C. 30 minutes after the ionic liquid per mol of CO 2 absorption amount when after the absorption of carbon dioxide, the apparent equilibrium is reached values lower the pressure to the atmospheric pressure up to a temperature of 70 ℃ After degassing the CO 2 done the CO 2 absorption experiment under the same conditions is 0.256 moles. Even after 10 times of absorption / degassing under the same conditions, the final absorption capacity was almost the same as the initial absorption capacity. When the carbon dioxide pressure is increased to 20 atm and absorbed at 30 ° C, 94% of the apparent equilibrium value is reached within 25 minutes. When the apparent equilibrium value is absorbed, the pressure is reduced to normal pressure and degassed at 70 ° C. , The final absorption capacity is reduced by about 1% compared to the initial carbon dioxide absorption capacity. Compared with the conventional amine compounds used as a carbon dioxide absorbent, representative examples of which include diethanol amine as a sorbent, carbon dioxide is absorbed at 1 atm and 30 deg. C, degassed at normal pressure and 110 deg. C, When two attempts are made to absorb and degas, the final absorption capacity is reduced by 15% compared to the initial absorption capacity. Therefore, by utilizing the phosphorus ionic liquid proposed in the present invention, it is possible to absorb, degas, and separate carbon dioxide repeatedly for a much longer time than the conventional amine-based absorbent, thereby saving energy significantly.
