Description
The present invention relates to a carbon nanotube structure grown or coated on the surface of a metal support, in particular, a joining method capable of increasing the contact strength between a metal support and a carbon nanotube, and a structure manufactured by the joining method.
Carbon nanotubes are used in various applications due to their excellent physical properties. In order to commercialize such carbon nanotubes, it is essential to integrate them into the macroscale support surface. Many studies have been made on the direct synthesis and coating of carbon nanotubes on the surface of supports having various materials and shapes for the nano-functionalization as described above.
In particular, the functionalization of carbon nanotubes on the surface of a metal support is a technology that has been used in many research fields because of its ability to greatly increase the mechanical, electrical and chemical properties of the support. On the surface of the metal support, carbon nanotubes can be directly synthesized without any coating. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using a catalyst is mainly used. This direct synthesis method is very advantageous in that it is relatively simple in process compared to the coating method, and can induce uniform nano-functionalization and vertical orientation.
However, since the material of the metal support and the carbon nanotube are essentially different from each other, they are disadvantageous in terms of the contact strength in terms of the weak structure. In particular, it is difficult to induce covalent bonding between the metal support and the carbon nanotubes, so that the contact strength of the metal support-carbon nanotube structure prepared in the conventional manner is limited.
The present invention aims to develop a bonding method capable of increasing the contact strength of carbon nanotubes prepared by a direct synthesis method on the surface of a metal support.
According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of manufacturing a carbon nanotube, including: contacting a surface of a metal support with a carbon nanotube containing a metal component; Heat treating the metal support having the elastic nanotube contacted to initiate the reaction between the metal component contained in the carbon nanotube and the metal support; And growing the intermetallic compounds produced between the two metal components by maintaining the heat treatment temperature. The present invention also provides a method for bonding a metal support and a carbon nanotube.
The kind of metal contained in the carbon nanotube should be selected so that it can form an intermetallic compound through reaction with the metal support used. Therefore, when the metal support contains copper (Cu), the metal contained in the carbon nanotube may be selected from Sn, Zn, Mg, and In. (Sn), thallium (Ta) or terelium (Tl) when the metal support contains nickel (Ni) and the metal support is at least one selected from the group consisting of Fe (Sn), molybdenum (Mo), nickel (Ni), or a compound thereof.
The metals included in the carbon nanotubes may be any one selected from the group consisting of nanowires, nanorods, and nanoparticles, or a mixture of two or more selected from nanoparticles.
It is also possible to disperse and bring the carbon nanotubes containing the metal component into powder state on the surface of the metal support.
The atmosphere of the heat treatment is preferably carried out in an oxygen-free atmosphere so that the carbon nanotubes are not oxidized.
Therefore, the metal support and the carbon nanotube, which are manufactured by the method of bonding the metal support and the carbon nanotube as described above, are characterized in that they are bonded by an intermetallic compound.

Hereinafter, a method for increasing the contact strength between the metal support and the carbon nanotube of the present invention and the structure thereof will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
A method of increasing the contact strength between a metal support and a carbon nanotube according to the present invention includes the steps of: contacting a carbon nanotube containing a metal component on a surface of a metal support; Treating the metal support having the elastic nanotubes contacted to initiate the reaction, and growing intermetallic compounds produced between the two metal components by maintaining the heat treatment temperature .
Referring to FIG. 1, in order to increase the contact strength between the
The carbon nanotubes containing the metal nanowires therein may be directly synthesized on the surface of the metal support as described above, but may be synthesized in powder form and dispersed on the surface of the metal support by coating or spraying method . In this case, the yield of the carbon nanotubes that can form the intermetallic compound may be lower than that of the direct synthesis method.
The metal support-carbon nanotube structure prepared as described above is heat-treated at a temperature at which it can form an intermetallic compound. In this case, it is important that the annealing atmosphere is carried out in an oxygen-free atmosphere so that the carbon nanotubes are not oxidized. The temperature at which the two metals form an intermetallic compound varies depending on the type of the metal support and the metal contained in the carbon nanotubes, so that the set temperature may vary depending on the selected metal.
For example, when the metal support is copper and the metal contained in the carbon nanotubes is tin, the heat treatment temperature is preferably controlled at 500 to 1000 ° C. When the metal support is nickel and the metal contained in the carbon nanotubes is tin, the heat treatment temperature is preferably controlled at 500 to 1100 ° C. When the metal support is iron and the metal contained in the carbon nanotubes is tin , The heat treatment temperature is preferably controlled at 500 to 1200 ° C.
The contact surface between the metal and the metal support contained in the carbon nanotubes in the heat treatment atmosphere provides a reaction site between the two metals. Depending on the range of the heat treatment temperature, the intermetallic compound nuclei ) Begins to form. For example, when the metal support is copper and the metal contained in the carbon nanotube is tin, the Cu 3 Sn and Cu 6 Sn 5 phases can be mainly formed when the heat treatment temperature is 500 ° C., and the heat treatment temperature is 500 ° C, Cu 3 Sn and Cu 6 Sn 5 phases can be mainly formed, and when the temperature is between 700 and 900 ° C, Cu 4 Sn and Cu 10 Sn 3 phases can mainly be formed.
Once the nucleus is formed, the reaction is further promoted so that intermetallic compound crystals continue to grow around the nucleus. At this time, the above reaction is rapidly diffused into two metals (a metal support and a metal contained in the carbon nanotubes). The
