Abstract

A variable intake device is provided to improve engine output by varying the air flow path into the engine in accordance with the operating speed of the engine and the travel speed of a vehicle. A variable intake device comprises a bypass channel(3), a first valve(4), a second valve(5), and an engine control unit. The bypass channel is formed at an air intake hose(2) for guiding air to an air cleaner(1), and has an inlet and an outlet communicated to the air intake hose. The first valve has a smaller diameter than the inlet and the air intake hose, and opens/closes a part of the inlet. The second valve has a diameter equal to or larger than those of the outlet and the air intake hose, and selectively opens/closes the air intake hose and the outlet. The engine control unit controls the valves in accordance with the operating speed and load of an engine.
