The present invention relates to a mobile communication system. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining whether there is fading in a received signal using an auto gain control (AGC) circuit used in a receiver of a mobile communication system. .
AGC (Automatic Gain Control) circuit is an automatic gain control circuit. When a signal with a strong level exceeding a certain level is input, the gain is controlled to prevent signal saturation. Raises a certain level by raising. Receivers in CDMA mobile communication systems require AGC circuitry to provide a received signal level that allows for proper conversion of the received signal from analog to digital despite large variations in the detected input signal level.
1 is a block diagram of an AGC circuit of a receiver of a mobile communication system according to the prior art. In Fig. 1, an AGC circuit according to the prior art includes an
상기 LNA(11)로부터 출력된 아날로그 동상(In-phase) 및 이상(Quadrature) 신호(I/Q 신호)는 상기 ADC(12)의해 디지털 I/Q (C)로 출력한다. The analog in-phase and quadrature signals (I / Q signals) output from the
The
The AGC circuit according to the prior art shown in Fig. 1 has the following problems.
First, jitter is caused by the reference table. That is, since the reference table is configured in units of at least 1 dB, jitter occurs due to an error thereof. 2 is a view for explaining the problems of the prior art as described above. Assume that the reference table is configured in units of 1 dB. Assuming the input average is m and the input variance is v for measuring jitter, jitter J can be obtained by the following equation (1).
도2에서 점선은 AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise)를 추가하여 입력 크기 단위로 표시한 그림이다. In FIG. 2, a dotted line is a diagram showing input unit by adding AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise). It is only when the dotted line appears in a straight line to approach the theory. Using Equation 1, it can be seen that many jitter errors occur at 8 dB. This is because jitter occurs as shown in the right figure of FIG.
Second is the error caused by the loop filter.
10log10(P0+P1+P2+P3...+PN)을 수행해야 같은 결과를 나타낸다. 그러나 종래기술에 있어서는 10log10(P0)+10log10(P1)...+10log10(PN)을 사용하고 있다. Assume the inputs are P0, P1, P2, P3 .... PN. 10log 10 (P0 + P1 + P2 + P3 ... + PN) should give the same result. However, in the prior art, 10 log 10 (P0) + 10 log 10 (P1) ... + 10 log 10 (PN) are used. This approach causes errors in the fading test.

As another aspect of the present invention, a fading detection apparatus using an automatic gain adjustment circuit according to the present invention, the automatic gain control (AGC: Auto Gain Control) circuit for maintaining a constant level of the signal received at the receiver of the mobile communication system The preprocessing module of claim 1, further comprising: a preprocessing module for converting the average value of the power value of the digital signal converted on the AGC circuit for a predetermined period in dB units; A post-processing module for obtaining a value obtained by averaging the power value of the digital signal in dB unit for the predetermined period; And a calculation module for determining a difference between the values obtained by the preprocessing module and the post processing module and determining the channel of the received signal as a fading channel when the difference value exceeds a preset reference value. do.
The construction, operation and other features of the present invention will be readily understood by the preferred embodiments of the present invention described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. 3 is a block diagram of a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
The present invention can determine whether a received signal channel is a fading channel using an automatic gain control (AGC) circuit included in a receiver of a mobile communication system, correct errors in fading detection and reduce the occurrence of jitter. It relates to a method and apparatus that can be.
In FIG. 3, a fading detection device using an automatic gain adjustment circuit according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes a
The
The
The
In addition, the
The
The reason for discriminating whether the reception channel is fading or AWGN is to improve the performance of the receiver. In addition, the amount of computation can be minimized by adjusting the amount of computation according to the channel environment. For example, the number of filter taps of a receiver is variably saved by the division of fading and AWGN. This is because the number of filter taps optimized by fading is incorrect. The smaller the number of filter taps, the smaller the amount of calculation. The larger the number of filter taps, the larger the amount of calculation. In other words, it can actively cope with the channel environment.
The
It is apparent to those skilled in the art that the present invention can be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit and essential features of the present invention. Accordingly, the above detailed description should not be interpreted as limiting in all aspects and should be considered as illustrative. According to the present invention has the following effects.
Being able to identify fading can be useful when designing a channel environment detection / restoration device suitable for other fading channels. That is, it can be used in other equalizer devices or channel estimators to improve performance.
First, it eliminates dB jitter caused by difference of gain table in AWGN channel environment.
Second, the error caused by the RSSI measurement module in the fading channel can be minimized.
