Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal display element having long life of liquid crystal and high strength and high scratch resistance by forming layers of a hardened phosphazene compd. or layers of hard carbon material between a glass cell substrate and a liquid crystal material.
CONSTITUTION: Layers of hardened phosphazene compd. or a hard carbon material 7, 7' are formed between a glass cell substrate 2, 2' and a liquid crystal material 1. Since the hardened phosphazene compd. has both characteristics of inorg. compds. as well as characteristics of org. compds., dense coating film can be formed and elution of alkali oxide, etc. is prevented effectively, attaining satisfactory reinforcing effect of the glass cell substrate, improving also the transparency of the glass cell substrate resulting extremely distinct display. Moreover, the hardened phosphazene compd. itself does not cause elution, so the liquid crystal material is hardly deteriorated. On one hand, the component constituting the hard carbon layer is not eluted and forms a dense layer, shielding thus the liquid crystal and the substrate effectively. By this method, deterioration of a liquid crystal display function is prevented for a long time.
