Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the occurrence of stray light and the useless application of irradiation light and also to eliminate the omission in counting, by confining the irradiation light in a sample liquid by using a difference in a refractive index between the air and the sample liquid. CONSTITUTION:A particulate measuring apparatus applies light from an irradiation light source 6 in the same direction with that of a thread-shaped flow of a sample liquid 2 by using a reflector 4. The irradiation light used is not limited to visible light, and laser light can also be used. This irradiation light is confined in the channel of the tread-shaped flow by the total reflection in the sample liquid, since there is a difference in a refractive index between the sample liquid and the air, and in addition, it irradiates the whole area of the section of the flow channel. In contrast, scattered beams of light from particles in the sample liquid occur also in the direction perpendicular to the surface of the sample liquid, and therefore they are not confined in the sample liquid. These scattered beams of light converged by a lens 7, the detection area thereof is limited by an aperture 8, and they are detected by a detector 9. Transmitted light and the sample liquid are led into a collecting tube 3 to be collected.
