Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R is mono- or polyhydroxyalkyl) or its salts. EXAMPLE:1-N-(2'-Hydroxyethyl)amino-2-trifluoromethyl-4-aminobenzene. USE:A color-developing substance for dyeing corneal fibers. The substance is used in combination with a coupling agent which is used in usual oxidative dyeing to develop a wide range of colors from yellow through red to blue, further from gray to blackish brown, and its tone is high bright. The developed color is fast to light, washing and abrasion. PREPARATION:Catalytic hydrogenation of the compound of formula II is carried out in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst such as Pd or Pt at room temperature to the boiling point of the solvent under a hydrogen partial pressure of 1-250kg/cm<2> to give the compound of formula I.
