Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve dispersibility and output as well as traveling durability by incorporating two kinds of carbon blacks having specific grain sizes with respect to the average grain size (a) of a ferromagnetic material into a binder. CONSTITUTION:Two kinds of the carbon blacks having >=2/5a and below (a) average grain size and above (a) and below 10a with respect to the average grain size (a) of the ferromagnetic material are incorporated into the binder of the magnetic recording medium formed by providing a magnetic layer disposed with the ferromagnetic material which is hexagonal planar shape and has an axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the flat plate face into the binder on a nonmagnetic base. The carbon having the particle sizes above 2/5a and below (a) wedges as nonmagnetic powder between the hexagonal ferrite particles to prevent the flocculation of the hexagonal ferrite. On the other hand, the carbon black having the large particle sizes above (a) and below 10a exists in the form of projections as the large nonmagnetic particles in the magnetic layer and contributes to a decrease in the mu value of the magnetic layer and the improvement in durability. The dispersibility and the output as well as the traveling durability are thereby improved.
