Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the value of a friction coefficient and its variation small and reduce a contact voltage drop by preventing the formation of a skin film on a commutator surface from being excessive through strengthening a film adjusting action by a small quantity of aluminium powder and copper powder. CONSTITUTION:A graphite powder is mixed with 0.2-3.0% by weight aluminium powder and 2-10% by weight copper powder and thermosetting resin as against said graphite powder and the resulting mixture is molded and calcined for the manufacture of a carbon brush. Refined and hence little ash-containing natural graphite, petroleum coke and the like of 150 meshes and less pre preferable as said graphite powder. Also, a preferable thermosetting resin to be used as a binder is a novolak type phenol resin or the like. As said aluminium powder, either of granular and scaly articles is favorable. Further, arborescent electrolytic copper powder is preferable as said copper powder.
