Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture an Al alloy sheet excellent in strength and formability with superior productivity, by subjecting an ingot of Al alloy containing specific amounts of Mn, Mg, Si, Fe, and Cu to heat treatment and then working the above into a metal sheet by means of hot and cold rollings. CONSTITUTION:An ingot of Al alloy having a composition containing, by weight, 0.5-1.5% Mn, 0.5-2.0% Mg, 0.1-0.8% Si, 0.1-0.8% Fe, and 0.1-0.4% Cu is subjected to soaking treatment at >=580 deg.C for >=2hr. Subsequently, the above ingot is cooled down to a temp. in the range of 450-550 deg.C, held at that temp. for >=2hr, and then hot-rolled into a metal plate under the conditions in which draft in the final pass and rolling-finishing temp. are regulated to >=40% and >=310 deg.C, respectively, followed by coiling. This hot-rolled coil is subjected to forced cooling and then cold-rolled, by which a metal sheet of the desired final thickness can be manufactured. By this method, the cold-rolled Al-alloy sheet having uniform structure and properties over the whole length and width of the sheet metal and excellent in strength and formability as a material for cans, etc., can be manufactured.
