Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the occurrence of slip in a slip clutch to ensure the retraction of a printing head, by a method wherein, a power transmission to a head travel part is cut when the printing head abuts on a platen and is engaged when the printing head is separated from the platen. CONSTITUTION:The forward rotation of a motor 19 rotates a guide bar 5 forward. Then, a carriage 4 is traveled forward, and a top end of a printing head 2 is abutted on a printing surface of a printing paper 48 disposed on a platen 1. The excessive drive force of the motor 19 cannot be transferred to the guide bar 5 because of the slip of a slip clutch 33. Thus, the carriage 4 is stopped at a position where the top end of the printing head 2 abuts against the printing paper 48. The reverse rotation of the motor 19 for a predetermined time is directly transmitted to the guide bar 5, thereby moving the carriage 4 back to a predetermined position. In this manner, a gap between the printing head 2 and the printing paper 48 is set suitably in the amount thereof.
